After this, I had to post the bit where Herc takes an immediate liking to Giant-Girl in Marvel Adventures: Avengers #18.

And, just because it amuses me, Odin sure knows how to compliment the ladies, as he demonstrates (also on Giant-Girl) in MA:A #29.

	Yeah, it's often actually rape. And the reason other people reacted badly was because they didn't want their daughter getting pregnant by premarital rape. The "premarital" with a guy who couldn't marry them was probably the worse part for them. And it was probably their fault, wearing a Doric chiton! (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

You have to wonder if this behavior by the gods was partly inspired by young women getting pregnant (oops) and, when asked who the father was, quickly said, "Ah... it was Zeus! Yes, that's it. He came in my door as a wolf and ravished me." This way she wouldn't be forced to marry the real father.

A lot of cultures have this folklore about women getting pregnant by sleeping out under the full moon, or eating taboo food or something. It might be a way to deflect blame.

There's an urban legend about a young girl who was wounded by gunfire on the outskirts of a Civil War battle. She eventually showed signs of pregnancy, even though she swore it was impossible. It seemed a bullet passed through a soldier's testicle and into her, bringing some sperm into her body. I don't know if anyone believed this or if it was a "Oh come ON!" story, but it's in several books of folklore.

I have met a person who believed that a woman somewhere swallowed tiny octopus eggs while swimming, and a baby octopus started growing in her stomach...

I think so, they covered the swallowing octopus eggs story, too. I used to love that show, but I don't take their results as final because they sometimes overlook possibilities.

I can see Kari telling her parents that this week they're going to be testing whether a bullet can carry sperm out of a man into a woman. Both Mr and Mrs Byron sputter and spill their coffee, and ask her if she wouldn't rather work for ANTIQUES ROADSHOW.
