Mmmm.

Over on LJ, [info - personal] janissa11 posted about making pumpkin bread. (I cannot seem to type "pumpkin" without putting a "g" on the end of it. Pumpking?) This morning after work I did the shopping for the Thanksgiving feast, and my usual grocery store did not have a single can of plain pumpkin, and only a few of the pumpkin pie mix. I grabbed two of those, just in case I couldn't find any pumpkin anyplace else. As it turned out, the grocery store I almost never go to had 16 oz. cans of plain pumpkin on sale, four for five bucks. So I had to buy four, right? I was feeling rather smug--instead of forgetting something like I usually do, I came home with extra stuff, rare, hard-to-find stuff!

But still, six cans of pumpkin, and I only need two. Inspired by Janissa, I hunted up a recipe for pumpkin bread that uses the pie mix; it's here at the Nestle/Libby's website. The house now smells like cinnamon and cloves and nutmeg. I am really looking forward to toasting a piece or two of this bread in the morning.

And as I made the bread, I discovered that I did forget something. We're almost out of sugar. Back to the store tomorrow...

Happy Birthday To Us!!!!!

I think you might have noticed my passing fondness (which, yes, was rapidly fanned into a full-blown obsession) for a certain German soap opera. Today is our birthday! Eskimo Kiss Project is one year old today!

I was going to gush about what an incredible, intense experience this has been (and I still might after I have my coffee), but right now I want to share my squeee! We're getting so much love there, including THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER EVER EVER!!!

Wish you all could see me beaming right now!!! (Or maybe not, it's probably kinda scary...)

Six Impossible Things (Seth’s Morning List Remix) [The O.C., Seth/Ryan, 100 Words, PG-13]

1. Only sesame seed bagels left, and no cream cheese. My life, ladies and gentlemen.

2. Ate a bowl of Oreos for breakfast.

3. There’s a coffee ring stain on my X-men. I know I accidentally burned down Dad’s office, but a man’s comics are sacred.

4. Ryan kissed me to shut me up. Twice. (!!!)

5. Did a Samuel L. Jackson impression under my breath. Was sharing my bucket of popcorn, extra butter, with Ryan, when our shoulders bumped together. It was nice; not Summer-in-a-Wonder-Woman-outfit nice, but getting there.

6. Make out Share kisses with Ryan at the poolhouse.

Remix of [info - livejournal.com] theswearingkind's Sam Jackson Ain't Got Nothing on These Two (f-locked) for [info - livejournal.com] remixthedrabble. I haven't actually watched the episode on which #3 is based. One day I'll probably finish watching the O.C. Maybe. If only for more of Seth Cohen's wordvomit.

Chevron and Cultural Genocide in Ecuador

Chevron and Cultural Genocide in Ecuador

The Chevron Board of Directors need to be brought up on manslaughter charges, and murder charges for every single person that died because of drinking this water. Then while they're incarcerated they need to be made to drink their own toxic soup. How dare these assholes do this crap. They brag about their profits and live the high life here in the US, and they probably drink very expensive bottled water, while their housekeeper does the laundry with filtered water. While in the meantime they're pumping poison into precious fresh water resources that people depend on daily. it's a CRIME, and they should be held accountable. This really pisses me off.

Storage tip!

I don't remember where I read or heard this but it works:

If you have problems with tomato products staining your storage bowls and such. The way to stop that from happening is to spray a little non stick cooking spray into the bowl before you add the tomato based product. Viola! No more stains :)

If you don't want to do it that way, I have had luck with the spray vinegar, and soaking them in a sinkful of soapy bleach water works. I have also used laundry stain removers:)

The problem with tomato products is that they're acidic, this is why it's recommended that you don't cook tomato based products in aluminum pots and pans, so the stains are harder to remove. Preventing them is always easier than removing the stains once they're set.

I've used the bleach water soak, followed by a baking soda and water soak to remove odors from containers also. Lemon juice works well too, then I usually set the container outside in the sun for half a day. Gets rid of odors very well.

The sun works wonders on stained white bed linens. If you just can't get that stain out: I usually bleach whites. But if there's a stain that won't come out no matter what. I'll spray a little vinegar or lemon juice on the stain and hang the piece of linen on a clothesline in the sun for a couple of days. Then rewash. That usually takes care of the stains. A bad stain might take a longer exposure, and make sure that your item is in a place that gets sun all day or most of the day. And it takes longer exposure in the winter than in the summer. :)

I hate being sick!

What started out from a piece of chewed food getting stuck in my nasal cavity from an inopportune sneeze has morphed in to a sinus congestion from getting a cold. I have been going through tissues and toilet paper like there is no tomorrow.

It sucks!

Oh well, going to try and write something this morning just to see if I can.

HOW TO: Use Social Media to Find Black Friday Deals

HOW TO: Use Social Media to Find Black Friday Deals

Okay, but social media is NOT the be all and end all of bargain hunting. I use slickdeals.com, and fat wallet, and deal sucker, and I check Woot daily, and Yahoo deals, and the new About.com deal site. I also check out places like PacificGeek.com and etc. I like checking out the Cheapskate on CNet. And I check all my newspaper ads. Then I run a search on Google for single items to see if any special deals pop up. Finding a good price on any item takes work, patience and diligence. It's not easy peasy. But I'm the bargain hunter for the family, I let them know where the bargains are, clip the coupons, and they go retrieve them, or I order and they pay. You have to stay on top of it. But I have saved my family tons of money over the years with my bargain hunting. And this is NOT just a new fad for me. I've been doing this for years, Ahhh 15 at least, but in the last few years it has become easier since more retailers have made their presence known online. SO enjoy the links:) I hope they help you out for the Holiday season and beyond:)

Spain mandates affordable broadband for all

Spain mandates affordable broadband for all

So why is the US lagging so far behind everyone else? The greed of the broadband companies. They're not just interetsed in making money, oh no, they have to male obscene amounts of profit no matter how much it hurts the populace. You know, you'd think they would have learbed a thing or two from History, say from the French Revolution and The American Revolution. Here;s to Revolutionaries and hoping someone puts together something that knocks them all on their asses!

thankful for unemployment?

I went to the supermarket yesterday.  There were fairly long lines with the pre-Thanksgiving crowd and the cashiers were hauling whole turkeys over the scanners.

I was very grateful not to be working in a supermarket anymore.

In fact, the market was always open on Thanksgiving and I started working there in September of 2006 so this is going to be the first Thanksgiving since 2005 where I won’t have to go to work.

Why do we do it?

Interesting article on AfterElton: Why are Women Interested in Gay Men? It's Not Because They Want to Sleep With Them!* Fortunately it dispels the myth that gay men/slash just appeals to straight women -- 38% of these polled identified as lesbian/bi/other -- and the explanations offered are a little more sophisticated than the usual "it's just like men liking lesbians." I'm less happy that the wording on some of the questions assumed heterosexuality (bad, AE, bad!) and were painfully American-centric, but some of the comments quoted manage to go beyond these limitations. All in all, pretty interesting read.
