I thought for a moment that a trans-centric ficathon would be fun, but then I thought of Snakey and the thousand ways in which cisgendered writers get things wrong (apparently) and got discouraged. *sigh*

It came from thinking of femslash pairings for Femslash-Today's porn-battle - Wanda from The Sandman: A Game of You sprung to mind, even though she's thoroughly straight (as if that ever stopped fic!), but then I figured it might not be accepted for the ficathon, because she's trans, though I've no indication that it would be. In any case the mere thought of there being dispute over it made me decide against it. Pah. Maybe I now have the expectation of transphobia even among my own queer fannish circles, in place of previous ignorant complacency. 

Nothing stopping me from asking for Wanda pairings at the next IJ Porn-Battle, though!

I was sort of reluctant to like it, but began to warm up when they introduced Cpt Roland, and I already liked Volly and Levitas, poor thing, and I ended up rather enjoying it. Reading Throne of Jade, now.

Microsoft chopping Zune prices

With the economy tanking and the holidays looming, Microsoft is hoping to salvage some Zune sales by chopping prices.

The software maker plans to announce on Wednesday a price cut for its flash-based models. The 4GB version will drop to $99, the 8GB model will drop by $10 to $139, and the 16GB model will sell for $179, down from $199.

Microsoft is also cutting prices for several of its Zune accessories. The cuts take effect on Wednesday in the U.S. and on Friday in Canada.

I'm freakin' drooling, and I just got a new monitor a few months ago. Wow, this is only 2" smaller and a heck of a lot more reasonable. And the contrast ratio is better on this one than on my HP 22"! WOW! *pouts* And shipping is 1.99. If I was still shopping for a monitor this would be the one I'd buy myself! Last night I had a strange but satisfying dream. In the dream, George and I were holding a party in our old apartment, and I was sitting with some friends in the living room, which had a fireplace that had once been real but which had been converted to contain an electric heater. In the middle of our conversation, who should show up but Micawber, our old cat who died a few years ago.



Apparently he came out of the fireplace, although I didn't see him arrive. There was a cat treat, wrapped in foil, lying on a nearby table, so I unwrapped it and offered it to him. He nommed it right up and let me pet him, looking up at me with his eyes half-closed. I knew he was dead - his fur on his back was rumpled and dry -- but he was alive enough to enjoy the cat treat and the caresses, so I counted myself lucky.

A moment later the fireplace had somehow grown to include a cavernous upper space, and down from that space came a girl, perhaps 14 years old, her pale face framed in long waves of white-gold hair, her slender body sheathed in a white robe. She picked Micawber up and started to take him into the chimney. I asked her if Micawber belonged to her now; she answered yes, and disappeared up into the darkness. (When I told George about the dream this afternoon, he remarked that she'd come to take Micawber back to Ghost Land. Perhaps he's right.)

I don't know why I dreamed about him, but I was very glad to see him. I still love him lots.

Step One

The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Accomplishments of my (three-day!) weekend:

- Fixed a computer (again).
- Finished the last item on the Doctor Who commission, although I have yet to scan, put together and colour it
- Holy crap I'm still proud of myself for that 5200+ word fic. I'm a drabbler, for goodness' sake. It even had a plot.
- Scanned three pics and coloured one of them.
- Sketched a moot gift pic (the only subject I still remember promising back then). Might have to start over with that one, though.
- Days lived with a completely healthy diet and an acceptable amount of exercice: 3 and a half. Score! 

I had many failures as well, but best not dwell on them. It's very gratifying to see to-do notes drop off the list, though.

Feeling Out Of Context

I've volunteered to manage the Saturday edition of femslash_today on LJ which I am excited about. I even uploaded a new icon for here and LJ to use. *points to her new icon* If any of you posts femslash on LJ, definitely let me know. Even if it's a post on LJ that links straight back to here or something.

The Yuletide fic is going along pretty well and if I wasn't so distracted by my game, I would have been finished with the first rough draft. Ah well. I am also keeping up with my sekret Yuletide entries that mctabby suggested in her post.

If you haven't seen my last post, I'm offering to do podfics instead of holiday cards this year. Any fandom, any word count, and I will host the podfic on my own site.

Or rather, a day of strange cat sleeping positions in our household.
