335 - Daffodil Dive mingle
[ Chuck hadn't anticipated all these people showing up on the day of the grand re-opening, but there's food and drink a-plenty and what's a few more guests, really?

The Daffodil Dive, once known as the infamous Devil's Compass, has seen a deep scrub and a fresh coat of paint, warm and inviting in yellow and orange, with the occasional friendly skull painted on the walls and bar. There's flowers and fragrant herbs in pots and vases, adorning the tables or filling up dark corners. Lit candles illuminate the room, with plenty of food laid out a couple of the tables — pies (savoury and sweet) and cupcakes, fresh fruit and vegetables, little hors d'oeuvres, more elaborate dishes courtesy of Piper and Sizzle and Sear. The bar will be open, champagne glasses already filled with bubblies both alcoholic and non.

Come! Enjoy your time in prison! ]

((ooc: Official reopening party log of the Daffodil Dive! 4th wallers and regulars equally welcome! Please feel free to assume invitations have been scattered around the dome. ))

[It takes a while to drag himself from the disoriented mess that became his life again this morning; less from the crowds of strangers and that sweeping feeling of being behind the times and more from this large, throbbing vacancy in his utter being that left him gasping for air when he awoke. The extents to which that horror affected him were gratefully not witnessed, and composure had just weakly returned. Barely enough composure, perhaps, as his features still looked slightly sallow behind the thick rims of his glasses and a few days' worth of stubble. His shirt was not a slick button down but a thicker, long sleeved shirt that was only the first hint he's been sheared down to the core and left to reside in an old comfort zone. The polish just doesn't feel well.

He doesn't even notice the changes until he's inside the Compass, wanting nothing but a few pints to drown himself in. And then, to his surprise, he's gripped by another twisting feeling of confusion in his gut as he looks around - unable to hide the appalled knitting of his brows. He reaches out to touch the petals of a potted flower, plucking one and letting it fall as he digests these - alarming changes to his bar... Greed's bar. This was Greed's bar.

He really can't deal with this right now.]

[ He didn't expect to see him. Not today, not ever again, definitely not before she's had some time to process and forgive.

There's no forgiveness to be found here, only pent up anger and a dressed up Chuck quicky making her way through the crowd. She moves with purpose, expression dark like an oncoming storm, caring little about the crowd or what day it is as she finally slows down in front of him.

Her hello is a clenched fist to the jaw, bringing with it so much anger and disappointment that the speed and power doesn't even seem to belong to her. ]

[He doesn't notice she's upon him until she is, fist thrown with all the fury she's got right to. His head snaps to the side from the impact and it actually takes him momentarily off balance, catching himself with a steadying palm against the table as the vase on top of it wobbles. He's definitely been hit by worse but there's a lot more sting to this blow than the physical - though the physical's pretty hefty for a girl her size. He rubs his jaw with a grunt, licking at the blood of a split lip before lifting his head to look at her. He deserved that, he thinks.]

Charlotte. Hello. [No bravado; his voice is rather weak.]

[ It's not as satisfying as she wanted it to be, probably because he looks so awful. Even though she'd like to scream, hit him, spit him in the face until he knows just what he did she finds herself deflating quick. They had some really good times and her fury would probably not be raging so hard if they got a chance to talk before he disappeared.

Still, what he did is pretty unforgivable, even for her. ]

You're lucky a punch is all I'm giving you.

[He works his jaw up and down a few times because Christ, she's really whalloped him.] And I'm a little grateful, considering I've seen your prowess in the kitchen with the knives.

[It's not meant to be humor, though it nearly edges on it. There's something to it that keeps it from going there entirely - hell, it's a dose of truth. He's about as human as they come now and there's not a lot he can dodge, but there's a hell of a lot of wrath he surely deserves. Just like she deserves an infinite amount of apologies because she isn't the first woman in this prison those heart and being he ignored for selfish gains.]

You've... done work. [His eyes flicker around, hoping to breach the subject of his ruined bar.]

[ It's a little scary, thinking about what she might've been capable of had she gotten to him shortly after it happened. She's made plenty of threats about grinding him down and baking him into a pie, exaggerations and jokes, but she's not entirely sure it would've been outside of her capabilities.

She would've hurt him. Maybe even tried to kill him. ]

I cleaned up after you. [ The words carry resentment, venom. ] Do you understand what you did? To Ianto, to the people here? To me?

[Alright, not what he meant about work on the place but the last jilted woman in his life kind of set the place on fire so he's not exactly sure what's better. He's kind of leaning toward the ash and rubble at the moment, but alright. Here comes the guilt trip either way.

He looks at her evenly, still rubbing his jaw with his thumb.]
Undeniably. And I've paid for that quite a bit so far, love. More so now with you disconnecting my jaw for me.

Oh, you haven't even begun to pay. [ It takes more than she's willing to admit to keep the rage up, but she can't give him forgiveness. Not here, not today. If he stays, then... probably. She always liked him. They had something good before he pissed all over it. ]

I defended you, Tyki. I was on your side and then you slaughtered my best friend and left him where I work? What the hell is wrong with you?

[Ianto stays close to Jack all evening. If it weren't Chuck he wouldn't even be here and even as it is it's too soon to make this place alright. The paint looks fake, too cheerful, and even with all the new furniture and people it feels empty, dark, horrible here. He can deal with trauma and being hurt and he's done it before but there's a difference between locking it away until he gets used to it and actively staring the place where it happened in the face. A difference between turning around and finding himself face to face with the person who took him apart.

He doesn't know what to say or do, all of Spike's useless advice about fighting vanishing along with Jack's warm, reassuring words that it was going to be alright here, tonight. He wonders absently if he's going crazy, just seeing things. His brain shrieks at him to run or to yell for Jack or to somehow magically vanish but in the end none of those options are feasible to him. He just stands there, frozen, stuck like an idiot again, just like last time because he's too scared to be a hero. How can there be so many people here and not a single person notices this?]

[It's actually kind of funny, Tyki thinks, to find himself gazing back at Ianto. Weird odds, but really they're not that weird when you consider this was up until a while ago his place of refuge. He wouldn't have thought it a place Ianto would dare go again, but maybe a few coats of gaudy paint is therapeutic enough for the soul to get over any underlying issues.

He would've smiled, cocks his head and maybe winked to drive the point home before. That he'd won, that he'd slaughtered him and that he'd be oh so able to do it again. But instead Tyki's brows crease and for every picked apart tendon and broken bone he can remember the then-ignored feeling of - is it guilt? Unsettlement. This half of him knows and sees all those wrongs and can't find the same twisted pleasure in them anymore. Of course, neither can he really find the desire to speak up in any sense of apology - what good does that do either of them.

He simply stares back for a beat, and if Ianto does nothing he will just as quickly turn to disappear back into the crowd.]

[He's right about the apology; it wouldn't do anything for either of them. The trouble is Ianto has no idea if this is the same Tyki who left. The one Kitty was so sure they had managed to hack into submission. He knows it's the one who tortured him, can read that clearly enough in the glance that passes between them.

He almost let's him go because he's too afraid to do anything else. What can he do? He's not a fighter, he never has been. And if he starts any sort of commotion how many people will get hurt in the process? Maybe those are both just excuses to keep from confronting him. The only thing he can manage is a very quiet, almost inaudible question.]

Are you back? [Back for good, not just for today? Not that either of them would have any way of knowing. But new arrivals follow a pattern and this isn't it. At least he hopes its not.]

[Of course he speaks up, making Tyki hesitate in stepping away; making him stop and slide his hands into his pockets. His head cocks to one side and he shrugs at the question. Does he know? No. Does he hope? Also no. He'd rather be lost like Road had been so many times than really suffer through existing like this.] You're likely to be rid of me with the rest come morning.

[He nods tightly, taking a step back. A part of him wants to ask if this is after the Defense Force hack, if it worked or not but the part of him that wants nothing more to do with Tyki wins out. It's enough to see him here, in this place, to be shaken by that. He doesn't need to drag this out and he doesn't even try and excuse himself, just turning abruptly and disappearing into the crowd, shaking so hard he's sure he can see it and desperately hoping he won't be here tomorrow.]

[Tyki cocks his head back to look at Jack, yet another unwanted face in an unwanted space. It's bad enough his bar is... what it is, but Tyki's all too aware that he's in close proximity to a lot of people he's pissed off and unable to really defend himself now. Not that he's anything the same, there's no challenge in his eyes or goading looks to be had. He's still tired, mortal and grimacing a little.]

I wasn't really talking about the place. I was talking about the people.

[Ianto, who's finding this hard enough as it is - hard enough that Jack feels bad about having talked him into coming. And Chuck, who had to cope with Ianto's death and is now on the verge of her big day, which he isn't going to let anyone spoil, and certainly not Tyki.]
