WHO: Eloise and Evan.
WHAT: Presents! Kind of.
WHERE: Grand Central.
WHEN: November 27, morning.
RATING: Low.
STATUS: Complete.
It was cold. Freezing. It was still dark, too, a somewhat ambitious journey; but Eloise had nothing better to do with her insomnia, and something seemed to feel right about leaving. She'd finally found everything she wanted to share with Evan. Three books exactly -- precise, hopefully thoughtful. Hopefully.
And in all truths, Ellie often felt sharper -- better -- on less sleep anyway. She was a lightheaded robot, trudging faithfully along, bundled up in full winter gear. There were no incidents; the walk was relatively uneventful for something taking place in the apocalypse, though 'uneventful' had certainly taken on a new meaning lately.
She descended on Grand Central as the sun was coming up, machete clean in hand. Security was as expected -- even gratuitous -- but the guards seemed amused by Ellie's mission. They pointed her in the right direction after questioning, thumbing through her books; and of course she didn't mind, couldn't mind someone doing their job. She told them thank you and gave the pale one a mint, even. Why not. They should all be reading, and Ellie was glad she still had the ability to amuse people without having to try.
Then it was time to find Evan. She navigated the space with straightforward determination, as if he were a train she had to catch. It was easy enough; and when she finally found him after half an hour, he had his back to her. It was perfect -- Eloise had a moment to think of what to say.
And yet, tapping him on the shoulder, she realised it hadn't actually been enough time at all.
What am I doing? Do I say hello? Do I say good morning?
Ellie didn't say anything at all. Instead, she smiled.
