It occurred to her at this moment that maybe this had been a ridiculous idea.
You're quite a ways from the Library, he'd said. And it was probably true: people wouldn't often make a walk like that just to give someone something to read. She should have thought about this a little harder; but then again, there was no way to make being here look like a casual coincidence. Why would she be wandering around Grand Central and come upon Evan by chance while carrying these books? Maybe it would have been even stranger if she'd pretended to have something else to do.
Eloise was a fairly straightforward person; as demonstrated, it was usually because she didn't think things through properly.
At least he was smiling. That had to mean it was okay...? She smiled back in what she hoped was a reassuring way.
