"I'm sorry," Evan muttered. "I didn't mean to bring you down with me. It just… it's hard to…" he trailed off. He didn't want to finish that sentence or drag her down further with him. Clearing his throat, he watched as she rummaged through her pack again.
What was she—oh. Evan gave a grateful half-smile when she pulled out her iPod and it grew a little more when she handed him an earbud. He looked at it in his hand as she pulled her hand away, then followed her lead, pushing his hair from in front of his ear and sticking the bud in.
The song was ambient. Calming, soothing to Evan's somewhat frayed nerves. And the words were equally beautiful.
He had his computer and his mp3 player, but it had been quite awhile since he'd heard any sort of music that was new to him. He listened appreciatively, lowering his head to watch Eloise's hands as she scribbled along the page. It had been a long time since he'd watched someone else draw. The last one was Danny, and that had been a couple of years ago.
Drawings this untainted were rare nowadays. Emotion-based art was, well, a lost art, with logic and seriousness dragged into the situation. This was nice.
