Character(s): John Sheppard & Jennifer Keller
Day: day 3
Time of Day: late morning
Location: the beach
Rating: PG-13
Status: complete

John lay his towel onto the sand and then sat down on it, squinting into the sun. Then he got his sunglasses out.

"Relaxing at the beach. Haven't done that in a while", John said. It wasn't that there weren't any beaches on either planet Atlantis was on, but they just didn't really have time to relax. Now they were doing exactly that. After breakfast they had gone to the shooting range to practice a little. Jennifer definitely wasn't as hopeless as Rodney and even he managed to hit his target most of the time by now.
After that they decided to go to the beach and relax, while they talked things through.

Rumaging through his backpack John pushed aside his weapons and C4 - you could never be too prepared - and took out a bottle of water. Taking a sip he then glanced around.

"It's actually kind of nice here, isn't it?", he asked and then looked at Jennifer. A small smile appeared on his lips. She looked hot in her bathing suit! He was sure both Rodney and Ronon would love to be in his place now. Well, Rodney definitely. Since the future Rodney told him about them John had been keeping an eye out to see if they got together. While doing so he had also noticed that Ronon hung around Jennifer constantly the last weeks. He was curious how things turned out. But he wasn't there to see that. He was here now, with another Jennifer.

He then took another sip of his water and looked out at the water. "Do you surf?", he asked.

Jennifer was glad to have a nice place to sleep, and that her room was next door to John's. It made her feel better knowing she was close to someone she knew. When morning came, she went with him to the shooting range. She was surprised she had done as well as she did. Maybe some of the things Ronon had taught her had actually stayed with her.

When they finished, Jennifer caught herself almost telling John she coudn't wait to tell Ronon how well she'd done. Ronon wasn't there because it wasn't Atlantis. Pushing it to the side, Jennifer decided to not think about it, and have fun hanging out on the beach with John.

Once she was in her two-piece bathing suit, she grabbed a few things, and stuck them in her beach bag. She followed John down to the beach, and smiled. It was beautiful down there, and very peaceful.

Sitting down on her blanket, Jennifer nodded. "I think I was seventeen the last time I actually went to a beach, and it was nothing like this," she said as she lathered her skin in sun block. "Don't want to get sunburned."

When she was finished, she put the sunblock away, and laid back on the towel. Laughing, she shook her head. "I grew up in Wisconsin," she told John. "No oceans there. How about you? Do you know how to surf?"

John glanced at her at that statement. "Seventeen?", he asked. "Wow. Don't like the beach much, do you? Or is it just far away? Where are you from again?", he asked. He kept forgetting where most of the people in Atlantis were from. If you lived in another Galaxy it felt like they were all from the same neighborhood. They were from earth. It no longer mattered from which city, state or country. Well, as long as they spoke the same language.

He then nodded. She was rather pale. "Let me know if you... uh.. need some help with your back", he offered with an awkward smile. He felt like he knew Jennifer well enough and he trusted her with his life, but they had never been in a situation like this before. It was so... casual.

"I love surfing", he stated grinning. "Too bad there aren't enough waves today. But there is still tomorrow", he said hopefully.

"I could teach you." Surfing was more fun if you didn't do it alone.

He then lay down on his stomach and propped himself up on his elbows.

"So, what do you make of all this. Think this whole war between good and evil is real?"

"Oh. no, I love beaches," Jennifer told John. "I grew up in Wisconsin so our beaches were by lakes. And, since I was already in college by the time I was fifteen so I didn't really have a lot of time for myself. All I did was go to class, and study. And then there was medical school."

She didn't like telling people how young she was when she started college. Jennifer felt people would think she was bragging, which she wasn't. Even though she adored her parents for pushing her, and getting her a good education, there was a small part of her that wished she would've had a normal upbringing.

However, all thoughts of her childhood went out the window when John offered to put sunblock on her back. Jennifer brightly blushed, and looked down. She knew a lot of women on Atlantis found John attractive, her included. But she never followed him around, or batted her eyelashes at him like some of them did - mostly because Jennifer knew she wasn't his type.

"Thanks. I'll remember that," she told him before smiling. "And I would love to learn how to surf. My best friend in Chicago lived in California for a time, and was always talking about surfing. It sounds fun."

Shifting, Jennifer rolled over to her side, and propped her head up with her elbow, so she could looked at John as they spoke. "I'm not sure. I mean, we learned in Sunday school about the Four Horsemen, and the last fight between good and evil, but I never really believed it," she said as she shrugged. "I'm still a little creeped out by being chosen to be here. It makes me wonder how they found us, especially since we were in a different galaxy."

John looked at her a little surprised when she talked about college. He didn't know about that. Elizabeth had been in charge of hiring her and he never saw it necessary to check out her whole file.

"Wow, you're that kind of a genius", he said. He knew she was brilliant, he just had never thought about how she was when she was younger. He however didn't care about things like that. Everyone did what was best for them. Why stay in school longer than you had to, if you knew everything already.

He then started to grin when she said she wanted to learn to surf. "Cool. First sign of waves the next days I'm knocking at your door", he stated with a happy glint in his eyes.

Four Horsemen? Hm, John hadn't thought about that or the religious angle of this at all. "Me neither. But neither did I believe in aliens before I sat down on that chair at the ancient outpost", he said. He remembered well how hard it was at first to believe all of what was his every day life for over 4 years now. "Maybe even more strange stuff is real. Who knows. And Dean said he fights spirits and stuff like that. He didn't seem nuts to me."

He then looked at Jennifer again. "I have a feeling they find anyone everywhere. People here are from all kinds of realities and times. Makes you wonder who is in charge here." He thought in silence for a bit.

"Think it could be some ascended beings? Mending their own rules?" Seemed unlikely, that they suddenly changed their stupid and strict rules.

"Yeah, I'm one of those kind of geniuses," Jennifer said as she made a face. She knew John didn't mean anything by it, but it still sucked to think about her childhood, and how she was always left out because the other kids didn't understand her. "It was no picnic when I was growing up, let me tell you. I think Atlantis is the first place where I've actually had real friends."

She smiled, and nodded when he said he'd be knocking on her door at the first sign of waves. "I look forward to it," she said before shifting on the towel.

She too didn't know what to believe anymore. Jennifer had always believed if you couldn't prove something, then it didn't exist. It was a theory that was blown right out of the water when she was hired by the Stargate program, and found out aliens were real.

However, when he mentioned ascended beings, she raised her eyebrows. "I don't know a lot about ascended beings but that could be a possiblity," she said before pursing her lips. "But why would they care what we do? Don't they have their own issues to worry about in their own planes?"

Jennifer shrugged and sighed. "Too bad this place didn't have a Gate, and we could just use it to get back to Atlantis," she said. "I'm starting to miss it. Heck, I'm even starting to miss Rodney a little."

John looked at her and nodded. "I can imagine." It was commonly known that geniuses didn't have an easy childhood. The other kids just didn't like if someone was smarter than them.

He then smiled. "Same here", he said. He had had friends before, a lot of them, but it wasn't the same. They were drinking buddies, people he met occasionaly. Or they were military and that simply didn't fit in with being true friends. That however had changed when he joined the Stargate program. It changed his whole life.

"And who wants normal friends when you can have the best, brightest and bravest as your friends, right?", he asked with a smirk.

John listened to her and then shrugged. "Who knows. Maybe they can't settle their own issues and make us fight for them?", he mused. It could be possible.

"A gate would be great", he agreed. All their problems solved. "Me, too. Weird that we even miss that annoying scientist, right?", he asked. Then he glanced at her. Or wasn't it weird in her case? They were a couple in that alternate reality, that he prevented from happening. Well, with Rodneys help. He wondered how she saw Rodney now. But he didn't say anything. He didn't talk about stuff like that.

"You're right. Besides, normal is way overrated. People who live normal lives are the ones you have to watch out for," Jennifer said with a smile.

She didn't like the idea of a bunch of ascended beings using them to fight their wars. They should just settle their own issues and leave the rest of them out of it. "That sounds kind of selfish of them. They should just settle their own problems," Jennifer said.

Furrowing her brow, she suddenly thought of something. "Do you think whoever brought us here, brought bad people here too? Or not?" she wondered out loud.

She then noticed John was looking at her, and she raised her eyebrows. "Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked with a curious look.

John chuckled at her words. "Yeah, they could bore you to death", he said jokingly.

"Selfish... yeah, I got the impression that that describes them well", he said. Most of them at least and those were the ones who made the rules.

"Sure. They are on the other side of town, waiting for the war to begin, just like we are", he said with a sigh. They were so close already. He wondered who was on that side of town. That reminded him of his talk with the doctor. He had decided to talk to some people to plan a mission to have a look at the book in the living quarters of the evil side of town. Maybe Dean would come and Faith? He had to talk to them.

"Uh, me?", he asked a sheepish look on his face. "Just... er thinking about Rodney", he said looking a little uncomfortable. Should he tell her what he knew? "Guess that brings a funny look to my face", he added.

"So, want to go to that self defense training later?", he then asked, trying to change the subject.

Jennifer's eyes widened when John told her the evil people were on the other side of the town. She didn't like the sound of that. "I'm not sure how much I like the thought of them being on the other side of town," she said with a slight shudder. She really needed to learn how to shoot and fight better.

However, when he gave her his sheepish little look, Jennifer raised her eyebrows. "I see. Usually when people think about Rodney, they have a look of disgust on their face," she said with a small laugh. "Rodney really isn't that bad. He has always been nice to me. And, yeah, I think I'll be taking part in the self defense training. I want to be able to defend myself."

Turning her attention away from John, Jennifer looked out at the water, and smiled. "I think I'm going to go for a swim," she said before digging through her bag, and pulling her sunblock out. She looked at John, and gave him a smile. "Does that offer to put some on my back still stand?"

"I'm not happy about that either", John said. "There are supposed to be magical barriers to stop them from coming here, but they don't seem to work that well. The Wraith got in for example. And then... well, magical barriers??? I'd prefer a shield", he said. Maybe magic was real, he wasn't willing to bet that it didn't exist, but what good was it if it didn't really work?

John then grinned. "Yeah, Rodney can do that to people", he agreed. Then he smirked. "I bet he has", he said with a knowing smile.

"Good. We can go together then." He had to keep his training up as well. And maybe he could talk to Faith or someone else about trying to sneak into the evil side. The self defense lesson was a good place to see who could hold his own.

Swimming sounded good. The ocean looked inviting. Then he glanced at her and gave her a cheeky smile. "Sure", he said and took the sunblock from her.

"Magical barrier..." Jennifer asked with an incredulous look. It sound like something little kids put around their playhouse to keep their siblings, or other kids out. It didn't sound like something to keep bad people from coming to their side of town. If the Wraith could get through, then there was a pretty good chance the others could, too. "Now I'm going to have nightmares tonight."

Nodding, Jennifer found herself looking forward to getting some training in. She had decided a few weeks before she needed to learn how to protect herself. She was always going on off-world medical missions, she couldn't expect John's or Lorne's teams to protect her.

When John took the bottle from her, Jennifer grinned, and turned around so her back was toward him. She reached back, and pushed her hair out of the way so John didn't get any in it. "I haven't been swimming in forever," she said as she waited for him to begin. "Hope I remember how to."

John glanced at Jennifer. He hadn't wanted to worry her. "The room are supposed to be safe", he offered. He read it in one of the books in the library. But he had no clue what that safe meant. "And I'm right next door", he added.

When she put her hair out of the way John put some sunblock onto his hand. Then he started to rub it gently into the skin of her back, trying not to miss any spots. He couldn't help but notice how soft her skin was. A small smile appeared on his lips.

He then laughed at her comment. "I promise not to let you drown", he offered jokingly.

"That's good to know. Just remember that when I show up at your door, early in the morning," Jennifer said with a smirk. There was something fun about joking around with John. He had a sense of humor, something several people on Atlantis seemed to lack. Even though their work in the city was important, it was also important to have fun, Jennifer believed.

When John started to rub the sunblock on her back, Jennifer closed her eyes. It was obvious he'd done this before, which didn't surprised her. She was pretty sure John had had a lot of girlfriends in his life, plus, if she remembered right, he had been married at one time.

"Thanks. It's good to know you'll be there to save me if I go under," she said with a small laugh. Turning her head, she gave him a soft smile before ticking her eyes down to the bottle of sunblock. "About done, Colonel? I'd like to get in the water sometime today."

John returned the smirk. "You're always welcome", he answered cheekily. He was starting to really enjoy himself. Jennifer was fun to hang around with. He always liked her, but he didn't really know her that well. They usually were in life threatening situations together or his life was in danger and she was trying to safe him. Not much chance for personal talk or joking around. He had a feeling that he was staring to see what Rodney and Ronon liked about her.

"Always ready to be of service", he said and returned her smile. Then the smile turned into a sheepish one as he pulled away. "Sure, ready to go", he said. Then he got a sunlotion out of his own bag. He probably should follow her sample. They were long enough in the sun already. He quickly started to rub the lotion in.

Jennifer found herself softly giggling. It was strange to be in this sort of situation with John. Usually, the only time she really saw him was during staff meetings, or when she had to patch him up. It was nice to see him under different circumstances.

As he pulled out his own lotion, Jennifer stood from her towel, and went toward the water. She gingerly stuck her foot in, smiling when she felt how nice it felt. "The water's perfect," she said over her shoulder before she waded further out.

When the water was above her knees, Jennifer dove into a small wave rolling her way. She swam underwater for a few seconds before popping back up. She smoothed her hair back, and grinned. "How come we never swim in the ocean surrounding the city? This is really nice," she said to John.

John watched her as she walked to the water. He hurried with his sunlotion and then got up.

He grinned as she slowly went into the water. Then he looked around, making sure that he didn't see anyone or anything suspicious nearby. There was noone. He still wouldn't get too far from his backpack with the weapons. He knew there were people on guard duty around the clock and that they had those magical barriers. But the Wraith got in, so he wouldn't let his guard down for a second. Luckily they could see rather far from where they were. No big trees or houses, where creatures could hide behind, were too close.

Having looked around carefully John then went to the water as well.

"No idea. Seems stupid now, doesn't it? I guess we have just too many emergencies", he said. Then he started running into the water, splashing water everywhere. When he was in deep enough he jumped and dived, coming up a bit later with a grin on his face.

"I vote we have at least two days a month off for fun," Jennifer told him with a firm nod. "We could find a nice beach on the mainland, and swim from there. It might make people feel better, and be less cranky when there is an emergency."

Of course she was talking about Rodney, and how stressed out he became when something went wrong. Jennifer was surprised the poor man hadn't died of a stroke yet.

Laughing, she watched as John ran through the water, shielding herself from the splash coming from him. She shook her head, thinking about how boyish he was at times. He was a great leader, and knew his stuff, but there were times when his antics reminded her of a teenage boy.

"You're such a kid, John," she laughed before she splashed water at him. Jennifer then quickly ducked away so he couldn't splash her too.

John nodded with a smile. That sounded like a good idea. But then he remembered what happened the last time people had a day off by doctors order. Hadn't ended well for Carson. And no matter if his clone was around now that day still was one of the worst in his life.

"We should discuss it with Woolsey once we're back", he said. If they got back. No, when, he corrected himself. He refused to give up.

John chuckled at her words. "A kid, huh?", he asked with an impish grin. He then swam a little closer and splashed water at her as well. He didn't mind acting childish from time to time. It was a good way of balancing the rest of his life for him.

Jennifer attempted to jump back a little when John splashed water at her, but it was pretty much impossible. Laughing, she looked at him, and shook her head. "You're going to get it, John," she said with a playful glint in her eyes. Cupping her hand in the water, she scooped some up, and started to throw it at him.

She couldn't remember the last time she'd had this much fun. It seemed weird since they were trapped on some unknown island, but at the moment she didn't care. All Jennifer cared about was getting John as wet as she possibly could.

However, she stopped when she realized something John had said just moments before. Stopping her assualt on him, she furrowed her brow. "Woosley? Why would we have to ask him for permission? Wouldn't we ask Sam?" she curiously asked.

John laughed at her words, which might not have been the best idea, as he got salty ocean water in his mouth. He grimaced, but then went back to splashing water at Jennifer.

John grinned when he managed to splash some water into her face. This was fun. He hadn't known Jennifer was that much fun to be around. He was starting to see her in a whole new light.

When Jennifer suddenly stopped splashing water he splashed one last time before stopping himself. "Oh, right. I keep forgetting you're from the past", he said. "Well, Woolsey is in charge now", he said with a shrug. He knew well how they had all reacted to that news. "He's not that bad actually", he then added. "Not like Elizabeth or Sam, but better than we could have hoped for." Woolsey was much more annoying when he second guessed others that were in charge as when he had to make the decisions himself. "Started to realize that not everything can be done by the book."

Jennifer laughed, and tried her best to dodge the water coming toward her. However, she wasn't fast enough, and got a face full of water. Laughing even harder, she tried to get John again before he answered her question. When he said Woosley had taken over command of the city.

"So you're saying what happened in the timeline you visited is starting to come true?" she asked as she treaded the water. "You disappear, Woosley takes over...only thing missing is me marrying McKay, and dying, which will never happen because I'm not there." She shook her head and sighed. "Part of me almost doesn't want to go back now. The thought of dying from the Hoffan drug isn't my idea of a good time."

Suddenly, something brushed against Jennifer's leg, and she let out a small yelp before quickly moving closer to John. Looking down in the water, she brightly blushed when she saw it was a fish. She then glanced at John and shrugged her shoulders before ducking her head.

"Parts of it", John said nodding. "Other parts definitely didn't happen. We saved Teyla", he said with a smile. "And blew up Michaels ship. He's not going to take over the galaxy."

He then stared at her. "Of course you won't die", he told her. Thinking about it he wondered if maybe it wasn't that bad that she was here now. There definitely was no way she could die from the Hoffan drug here. She seemed to have the same thoughts.

"That will never happen, Jennifer", he promised, trying to reassure her. He wouldn't let it happen! He didn't let Teyla die and now he wouldn't let Jennifer die. No matter from what, Hoffan drug, Wraith, demons or whatever.

When Jennifer suddenly yelped John moved forward quickly, trying to spot the danger. He however relaxed when he noticed that it was just a fish.

"Scared of fish?", he asked a little teasingly. "Didn't bite you, did it?"

Then he noticed that they were standing barely a few inches away and his body suddenly was very aware of hers. He looked down at her, noticing how pretty she actually was. That thought brought him back to reality. What was he thinking? First Rodney and Ronon and now him? No! They were just friends. Noticing that Jennifer was pretty was just a natural observation. It was the truth after all.

John stepped back a little and then glanced towards the beach. He had completely forgotten everything around them. How could he? They weren't here on vacation. There could be Wraith or any sort of other evil appearing any moment. They had seen it happen. He needed to stay focused and pay attention to their surroundings.

"Maybe we better get back out. There might be more fish around... or other things." Real scary ones. He'd feel better if his gun was right next to him.

Jennifer looked at John, knowing she had to believe him. In his timeline, they had found Teyla and killed Michael. It was a lot more than they had done in the other one. However, she couldn't help but to wonder about the timeline she had come from. She had disappeared before Teyla's rescue, and Michael's death. What if she was doomed to die when they were returned.

Shaking her head, Jennifer decided not to dwell on it. Instead, she looked at John and smiled. "Thanks, John," she said before laughing.

"I'm not afraid of fish. It was just a little creepy to feel something slimy slid across my leg!" Jennifer protested as she stuck her tongue out at him.

As she stood there, Jennifer realized how close they were standing. Tilting her head a bit, she continued to look up at him. She had always thought John was handsome, and she adored his childish side, but never really talked to him outside of missions, and his visits to the infimary. Guys like John Sheppard normally didn't talk to girls like her.

"You know," she said as she reached up and touched his hair, "you'd think water would stop it from sticking up all over the place." She gave him a small smirk, and nodded at his suggestion they get out of the water. "Good idea. My skin is starting to wrinkle."

Taking a step back, Jennifer grinned at him before splashing him with more water. She quickly turned, and made her way out of the ocean as quickly as she could. Laughing, Jennifer ran up to her blanket, and sat down. She grinned at John, and then laid back.

He smiled back at her, feeling determined not to let anything happen to her.

John chuckled when she defended herself and then stuck out her tongue. She looked cute that way. "Alright, not afraid of fish", he agreed with a smirk, but also felt relieved that it didn't seem to have bit her. They were in unfamiliar territory and who knew what kind of fish they had here.

When she reached over to touch his hair John looked at her a little surprised. "Hey, my hair looks exactly like it's supposed to", he said pretending to look insulted. The truth was that he had never been able to manage his hair to look any other way. His mother had almost gone crazy trying to tame it when he was little. But he liked it the way it was.

"Don't tell me you don't like it", he added crossing his arms over his chest.

When she splashed water at him again he tried to do the same, but she was already out of reach. Not fair! He rushed after her anyway.

"I'll get you for that", he said when he was out of the water and standing infront of her. Then he grabbed his towel and had a look around again.

Jennifer softly snorted when John made his threat. She sat up on her towel, and looked up at him before she used the bottom of it to wipe the sand from her feet. "I look forward to it," she said with a smirk. She finished cleaning her feet off, and took. Picking up her towel, she shook it out before using one of the ends to dry her hair.

Looking at John again, she smiled. "And you're right. I do like your hair. It's adorable, just like you," she said before she even realized what she was saying. Her cheeks warmed with a blush, and she ducked her head. Jennifer was pretty sure John had heard such things from other women, and she didn't know why she was so embarrassed.

She looked up at him again, and noticed he was looking around. Obviously, he was making sure things were safe. It was the type of person John was - he was always looking out for the people around him. Stepping a little closer, Jennifer laid her hand on his arm, and gave him a soft smile. "I don't think we thank you enough," she said. "You put your life on the line, and protect us all the time. That makes you a good man."

Leaning up on her tip-toes, Jennifer softly kissed his cheek, and then pulled back. She looked up at him, and smiled. "And don't try to be modest, and say you're just doing your job. You go beyond what's expected of you, and I think that's one of the many reasons I like you so much," she told him.

John chuckled at what she said. "Just wait for the rematch", he said.

Hearing her words John glanced at her. She thought he was adorable? Well, he'd use that word for children or puppies, but it still sounded nice coming from Jennifer. He smiled.

When she stepped closer and then thanked him he blushed. He wasn't used to situations like that and they always made him feel a little uncomfortable. He did what he had to do. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he acted differently.

Before he could say anything she kissed him on the cheek, silencing him for good. He looked at her a bit surprised as she spoke. She liked him so much? He grinned happily. That definitely sounded good.

"Well...", he finally said. "I'm just doing what's right. And I'm definitely not the only one doing that in Atlantis." Ronon risked his neck just as much as he did, and so did Teyla, Major Lorne and most of his people. Even Rodney had started to act rather selflessly over the past years. "You do the same as well", he told her. "You wouldn't leave anyone behind even if it's a traitor." He remembered well the time when Jennifer had been on New Athos with Teyla and they had been hunted. Teyla told him all about Jennifers actions. She was almost too good for her own well being. It could be annoying, but he definitely admired that.

He then smirked. "So, you like me", he stated sheepishly.

Jennifer knew John was right. All of them did their part to protect each other, and the city. Looking down, she shrugged a little as she remembered what she had done on New Athos. She hadn't been thinking, and just acted. Jennifer looked up him, and smiled.

"You're right. All of us do what we have to do to protect others," she said, her hand still resting on his arm. She gave him a smile. "As for New Athos...I think Teyla wanted to kill me at first. I twisted my ankle, and slowed us down. But it worked out in the end."

When John asked his question, Jennifer softly laughed. She wanted to ask if they were in high school again, but then remembered she was barely twelve when she started high school. That didn't make her an expert. Yet, she still thought him asking was cute, and very John-like. Tilting her head, she ran her hand down his arm, and took his hand.

"Yes, I like you, John. I'm glad we're able to spend time together now since the only times I ever got to see you was during staff meetings, or when you got hurt," she said as she took a small step toward him. "This is nice, and I like spending time with you."

John smiled and nodded at her words. They were a good team.

"Teyla would never do something like that", John assured her. "And it's not your fault you strained your ankle. Besides, you probably didn't even complain half as much as McKay would have", he added with a smirk.

John had meant that question more in a teasing way, but the way she answered made him wonder if maybe she did like him a bit more than just anyone else. But she didn't actually say that. She just said she liked him and liked spending time with him. She could have said the same to Teyla for example.

She however did stand really close to him and John noticed that he could close the distance easily and just kiss her. He wanted to. His eyes were fixed on her face and he started to lean in when he suddenly saw movement to their left in the corner of his eye. He turned quickly and then realized that it was just a bird. A very colorful tropical bird. Damnit, he thought.

John turned back to Jennifer. The moment had passed and he suddenly wasn't so sure anymore if kissing her would be a good idea. They were working together after all. And she might not like him in that way. It could turn out awkwardly if he kissed her and she wasn't into it. She could like Rodney after all, or Ronon. At the very least his two best friends seemed to have a crush on her. He shouldn't get involved in that. It just wasn't a good idea.

He slowly took a step back and rubbed his neck. "We should probably head back. We need to get ready for the self defense lesson." He wanted to take a shower and get something to eat before they went there.

Jennifer continued to look up at John, her hand still around his. As he leaned over, she slowly started to close her eyes. They were really going to kiss, and she could feel her heart start to wildly pound in her chest. He was so close but before her lips could touch his, he was pulling back, and looking to the side.

Blinking, Jennifer gave him a confused look. When he stepped back, she frowned. Why was it every time she went to kiss someone, something had to happen? Letting out a frustrated sigh, Jennifer continued to look up at him. Maybe it was time to be a little more bold. She wanted to kiss John. She was tired of things not going her way when it came to the men she liked.

Jennifer looked down and noticed she still had a hold of his hand. She then looked at John again and decided to just do it. If he didn't like it, she wouldn't do it again. Leaning up, she pressed her lips against his. Kissing John was pretty close to perfect.

After a few seconds, she broke the kiss and stepped back. She wrapped her towel around her waist, and picked up her bag. "We probably should. Wouldn't want to be late," she said with a small smirk before she turned and started to walk off.

John was still glancing around, making sure there was nothing dangerous around, when she suddenly leaned in and kissed him. First he was too startled to react, but then instinct took over and he kissed her back.

Before he really had a chance to comprehend the situation and actually enjoy it Jennifer broke the kiss and stepped back. He stared after her, stunned for a moment. She had kissed him. He hadn't thought she'd do that.

Finally getting what just happened John started to grin slightly and then followed her quickly. He wouldn't just let her get away with that. Grabbing her arm he pulled her back and then kissed her properly, wrapping his arms around her. All thoughts about Rodney or Ronon were completely forgotten as he deepened the kiss and pulled Jennifer even closer.

Jennifer continued to walk away, while wondering what John was going to do. There was a pretty good chance he wouldn't do anything, and Jennifer was all right with that. She was tired of not doing what she wanted, and she had wanted to kiss John so she had. And, it was pretty damn nice.

However, when John caught her arm, and turned her around, Jennifer found herself smiling. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she softly groaned as they deeply kissed. She pressed her body against his, and tangled her fingers in his hair.

When there was a need to breathe, Jennifer slowly pulled back but not out of his arms. She gave him a breathless look, and softly blushed. "Wow," she quietly muttered. She then looked from John to the sand, and back again. "I really want to pull you down, and just makeout with you for the rest of the day, but I'm pretty sure we should go to this training session."

John loved the way her lips felt, the way she kissed and the way it felt to hold her in his arms. He hadn't felt anything like that in a long time.

When he heard her say wow he grinned happily. Hearing that definitely sounded good. "That's what I thought", he admitted, still holding her close.

He then stared at her as she bluntly stated that she'd like to make out with him. He definitely wouldn't mind that. But she was right. They shouldn't miss the training. Jennifer needed to learn to defend herself properly. Keeping her safe was the most important thing, even if his body seemed to disagree right now.

"Right, the training", he said. "Just let me get my stuff." He then leaned in and gave her quick kiss on the lips, before reluctantly letting go of her and rushing to get his things. Picking them up he walked back to Jennifer.

"We should get back to that idea of yours after the self defense lesson", he then said looking at her mischievously.

Jennifer sighed and let John go so he could grab his stuff. She watched him, a smile present on her lips. This had turned out to be a good morning, she decided and she wouldn't trade it for the world. All thoughts of the war had been pushed aside, and it was all John's doing.

Laughing, Jennifer shook her head and adjust her bag on her shoulder. "I like that idea. But maybe we can find a more comfortable place to do it. Nothing against the beach, but it's a little lumpy," she said before she leaned up and softly kissed him for a few seconds.

When she pulled back, she reached down, and took John's hand. Linking their fingers together, she started to walk into the direction of where they were staying. "So this Faith person...she's a good teacher?" she asked as she glanced up at him. "I'm used to Teyla teaching me, and I don't want to look like a moron, and do something wrong."

John grinned when she said she liked the idea. Maybe being here didn't suck that much after all.

"I'm sure we can find a better place", he said. When she kissed him again John enjoyed the feeling and almost started to protest when she pulled away. He however knew that she should be going and he was sure they'd never make it to the self defense lesson if he let himself get distracted.

He then glanced at their entwined fingers, liking the feeling.

"Yes, I think she is. Showed me some nice moves. She's also teaching a girl who didn't have any experience in self defense. So I'm sure you'll be fine", he told her squeezing her hand gently.

Jennifer knew of a few places John and her could go to after they were finished with their training session. Just thinking about it made her blush a little, and feel giddy. She was beginning to think her crush on John was a bit more than a crush. Yes, she had thought about kissing him, among other things, but didn't think it would feel so wonderful. Maybe it was because it was only them. They were the only ones from Atlantis there, and they didn't have to worry about the others.

It didn't matter, though. All that mattered at the moment was the fact she was holding John's hand, and they had plans for later in the day.

When he started to talk about the teacher, Jennifer let out a sigh of relief. "Good. I wouldn't want to embarrass you in front of her," she said with a small shrug.

Soon, they were at the front of where they were staying. Jennifer stopped in front of the building, and turned to look at John. "Thanks for taking me to the beach," she said with a smile. "This has been the most fun I've had in ages." Leaning up, she wrapped her arms around his neck, and deeply kissed him again.

John glanced at her. "You couldn't embarrass me", he said. Even if she was the worst student ever in self defense it wouldn't matter. Not everyone was cut out for fighting. Jennifer had different talents and she was a brilliant doctor. Why should she have to be that good at everything else, too?

"Besides, you'll do fine. Remember, Ronon told me you were really good now", he said with a smile.

John grinned at her words. "You're very welcome and it definitely was my pleasure", he assured her. He hadn't thought the day yould turn out that well.

When they broke apart John almost didn't want to let go of her. But he knew they had to get to their room, change and then go to that self defense class. Eating would already have to wait until afterwards. They had spend too much with other things already. But he honestly didn't care right now. He wasn't that hungry.

John then took her hand again and led her inside, walking towards the stairs. Once upstairs and infront of their rooms he turned to her. "I'll see you in 10 minutes", he said before giving her a kiss.

Jennifer smiled over at John, glad to know he wouldn't be embarrassed by her lack of fighting skills. She had worked a little with Teyla, but it was just the basic things. She knew how to punch someone, but that was about it. She knew she needed to work more.

"I wish I would've been there to see how good of a fighter I really am," she said with a soft laugh. It was still a little strange to know John and her were basically from two different timelines. She couldn't help but to wonder what was going to happen when they got off the island - if they ever did. Since they were from two different timelines, it would make sense if they returned to them.

Shaking her head, Jennifer decided not to think about it. Instead, she decided to enjoy her time with John. When they got to their doors, she smiled up at him and returned his kiss. "I'll see you in ten," she said before stepping back, and going into her room.
