Who: Clint and Natasha (with mention of James)
What: Clint tries to nom on James but discovers Natasha's alive
Where: Wilderness
When: Afternoon
Status: Complete/Closed
Rating: Medium

It had been several days since he had crossed paths with the girl, the vampire Elena. He had said nothing of the matter to Rebekah and really, why should he? He hadn't wanted this life. But he did what he could when he could to make it seem he was still loyal to her while trying to help the rebels take back Everett.

One of the things Clint had taken to was wandering the forests and "wild" areas around Everett. Sometimes he came across a person and he fed off of them before returning to the proper part of town. It was on one of these excursions that he was currently on. He was bored and wanted to wander. As he wandered, he paused when he smelled something a touch familiar. Something that made the hunger sharpen. He quickly moved to the source and found a teenage boy checking snares and traps.

One so young shouldn't suffer this life here... He moved quickly to the boy and grabbed him from behind, slamming an elbow to his head to silence his scream. With the boy dazed, Clint spun him around and grabbed his hair to tilt it to the side when he paused, his fangs exposed as the blood called to him. This boy...Clint could see some of her in him...

Clint watched her tend to her son. Then when she looked up at him, he saw the hurt and pain in her eyes and it hurt that he had caused by his words. "I thought you had died when the prison fell Natasha." He glared at her. "It's been hell trying to live with the pain of losing you. To keep my humanity on so I don't truly become a monster..."

He shook his head. "But right. You've moved on...guess I will too." He blurred away but stayed close enough he could watch her from.

“I never moved on," she replied sharply, then looked up as he suddenly blurred away. "Clint, wait!” She moved to her feet, staring the direction he’d gone, heartbreak on her face. After a moment of realizing that, if he really was a vampire, he’d left her behind. Again. Her head dropped for a moment and she closed her eyes, then reopened them when she heard James stir. Turning back to kneel again, she helped him sit up, taking a moment to hug him tightly. As she brushed her lips across his hair, she sighed. “We need to go.” It was too dangerous to stay there, especially if Clint really did plan on moving on. For all she knew, he might come back and kill them, kill her for betraying his memory.

Clint watched silently as Natasha and her son moved away. He felt a swirl of mixed emotions. He was happier than ever that Natasha was alive. But the fact she had a son with someone other than him... It stung deeply. But really...what she at fault? They had believed each other dead. And really, he had died. He was still dead.

When the boy went off to, what it seemed like to Clint, to get his things, the vampire moved silently and quickly so he was behind Natasha. "...I can't lose you again Tasha..." he whispered.

Natasha had bent to pick up her crossbow as her eyes followed James, when she suddenly sensed him behind her before she even heard the voice. She spun to face him, having pulled the wood-tipped bolt from the weapon, arm raised, but rather than stake him like she should be doing, her hand stayed where it was. For a long moment she just stared at him, jade eyes focused on blue steel, and her hand finally lowered as she gave a quiet sob, then stepped in close to wrap her arms tightly around him, shaking faintly.

Clint didn't even flinch when she moved to stake him. But when she embraced him he stood there for a moment before he slowly wrapped his arms around her, his head bowed. "I missed you so damn much," he whispered.

"I missed you too," she replied just as softly, stepping in even closer. She might have thought, after all this time, that her feelings for him had disappeared, even dulled. But instead they were suddenly back stronger than ever before. The weapons slipped from her fingers a second time, falling unheeded to the ground, and buried her face in his neck while closing her eyes, unbelievably glad to have found him alive. This could have still been a dream, maybe even a miracle, but right now she wasn't questioning it.

Clint tightened his hold on Natasha and buried his head against her neck. He inhaled deeply and he felt his face change. Natasha had been the only thing that had ever tempted him. And having her this close to him, hearing her heart beating so loudly against his ears, the warm blood rushing through her veins...

Unthinking he sank his teeth into her neck to draw her blood.

Her own arms tightened when his did, and she just enjoyed feeling him against her. Twenty years and somehow he still felt the same as her memories, maybe even better than her memories.

A moment later, her thoughts were interrupted by a sharp pain as her skin was pierced, and she gasped, instinctively grabbing one of his arms. "Clint...?" She didn't want to die - couldn't die, she needed to stay alive for James - and this...it didn't hurt nearly as much as she thought it should.

He didn't know why but Natasha's blood was by far the sweetest he had tasted. His grip on her tightened and he was about to drink more when her voice broke through his thirst. Realizing what he was doing, he let her go and shoved himself back, curling up in a crouch several meters from her, shame on his face and in his eyes.

"I'm sorry..." he whispered.

Raising a hand to her neck, she stared at him for a long moment, though she was glad that this time he hadn't ran. At the apology, the hand fell away, and she took a step towards him. "It's okay. You - you surprised me." Her thoughts were a mixed mess at the moment, but she knew without a doubt that she wanted to be close to him. Slowly, she walked over, then knelt in front of him, reaching out with a hand to touch his cheek. "I can't believe you're here.

Smelling her coming closer to him, he tensed. When her hand brushed his cheek he moved swiftly a few feet away, his back to Natasha. "Don't...I'm not the man you knew," he said, his voice subdued. "Not anymore..." With the scent of her blood on the air he couldn't get his face to change back to normal.

She stared at him again, staying where she was this time. "Clint...I don't believe that. There's still a part of you...of the man I...love. In there. You didn't kill us, when you could have."

Slowly Clint turned and faced Natasha, letting her see his face. "I wanted to. I still want to. The last two decades...I've never been as tempted with blood before as I am with you Natasha." He shook his head. "And I've had to do things..."

His head bowed. "I'm a monster Natasha."

"So am I," she replied softly, never looking away from his eyes. "I've missed you. So much. I can't lose you again. I won't," she said firmly, slowly standing and walking towards him again.

He looked at her, forcing his eyes to be cold and hard. "Really? Have you ever really tasted human blood? To feel it touch your lips and tongue and have that sweet nectar burst across your tongue and leave you wanting more?" His gaze sharpened with another hunger as he stared at her. "To know you can take what you want and not a damn person can stop you?"

He slowly stalked towards her, his face still vamped out.

She straightened, stopping her own advance as she watched him approach. "I may not have tasted blood, but you know I shed more than my share of it. And as for your last question? You know that I do, Clint." The Russian gave him a cool-eyed stare, telling herself that the faint ball of lust in her stomach was ridiculous - that was past. And she still had to think about her son, who should be walking up any minute.

He stopped in front of her, locking his eyes on hers. He had tasted the vervain in her blood but given he took it daily so Rebekah couldn't compell him, it didn't burn as badly as it should have. He stopped in front of her and stared hungrily into her eyes.

"Do you think you could stop me?" he challenged.

Natasha's chin lifted slightly as she met his gaze. She wasn't afraid of being compelled, and she wasn't afraid, suddenly, of him killing her. But the idea of the challenge thrilled her like nothing had in a long time. Her own eyes flashed briefly, and she tensed.

"Are you going to try me?"

Before Clint could act on his desires he had in mind for Natasha, he glanced to the side before looking at her. "My old cabin. I go there sometimes." He reached out and ran his fingers along the bite he had made on her neck and brought his fingers to his lips, licking the blood up, his eyes never leaving hers.

He remembered Elena's words suddenly. "There's rebel camps around. You and the pipsqueak will be safer there than out here on your own."

"We haven't been around large groups of people....well, ever. Not since the prison fell," she replied, hesitant to take James anywhere near....well, anyone, really. "Are you sure they're safe?" She'd trust his judgement, at least.

"I'm not. But the kid Elena bumped into me a few days ago. I think she was liberating people from the farms. She invited me to one of the rebel camps." He reached out and brushed some hair from her face. "I'll be staying around the cabin more."

She studied him for a moment, then slowly nodded. "I'll see about taking James to the camp, then come to the cabin when I can." But she didn't want to leave him now and that was a big problem.

Staring at her, being confronted with her, he couldn't leave for fear this was naught but a dream. "Come with me to the cabin now...both of you..." His voice was quiet. Without realizing his face shifted back to it's normal appearance, his eyes soft though still burning with desire.

Natasha hesitated, then finally gave a nod. "...Okay." She had no idea how she was going to explain all this to her son, or even what she should tell him. Hearing a sound, she looked away, then smiled when she saw James, everything in her face softening differently then it did for Clint. All she knew for sure was that now, finally, she felt more complete than she had in a long time.

The first real genuine smile in years formed slightly on Clint's face at her agreeing. Clint turned and looked at the boy. He really did seem a perfect blend of Natasha and Steve. Seeing how Natasha's face softened, he felt his own heart swell some. He had known ever since Natasha had risked all to free the children on her first mission for SHIELD that she would make a good mother.
