Who: Owen, Cecilia, AND THEIR NEW ZOO
When: Early morning
Where: Cecilia's room/Owen's room
Cecilia was sleeping on her side, one arm wrapped around Neptune, when the dog lifted his head and cocked his ears. He was still for a moment, before finally slipping out from under Cecilia's arm and heading slowly towards the bathroom door. Cecilia was a notoriously light sleeper, so that was really all it took. She opened her eyes to see what was going on. She was definitely a morning person, but somehow didn't feel ready to get up yet. If Neptune came back to bed, she knew she would fall back asleep, even if only for another twenty minutes or so. She waited. Neptune didn't come back.
Sighing slightly, Cecilia shifted in bed to get a better look at him. "Do you need outside?" she asked. If that was the case, Neptune would let her know. He never had accidents, even here, and he was always very unhappy about being forced to do his business inside if they were trapped for some reason. But Neptune wasn't looking towards the hall, he was staring intently at the bathroom door.
That... was a little creepy. He was staring at the door, his posture stiff as he stood at alert. Cecilia couldn't help but remember the night she'd been taken. "What is it, Nep?" Neptune apparently heard something, because he began whining and scratching at the bathroom door. Cecilia wasn't sure what to expect, but she was fully awake now. She grabbed her glasses and shoved them on her face as she climbed out of bed to investigate. She made a noise of frustration when the bathroom door wouldn't open. "Goddammit," she hissed, wondering what the hell They were pulling now. What was she gonna find in there? Snakes again? Robot babies? Robot snakes? She tried the doorknob one more time, not really expecting anything different, and then she heard it. It sounded like a dog crying on the other side of the door.
Neptune went crazy, throwing himself on the floor and scratching furiously at the door with both front paws. Cecilia stood frozen to the spot for half a second, then hurried over to her computer. A few minutes later she had typed out answers to the latest round of bullshit as fast as she could, and the doors audibly unlocked. She hurried back over to the bathroom door and pulled Neptune gently away as she opened it.
The puppy was sitting in the far corner, shaking slightly and staring back at Neptune and Cecilia. Cecilia sat down in the open doorway and held out her hands. "It's okay," she murmured. "Come here." The puppy was cautious, but after a moment's hesitation got up and padded slowly towards them. Cecilia let it sniff and lick her hands before she lifted it and pulled it into her lap. Neptune sat at her side, and she could feel his tail thumping against her back. The dogs sniffed each other, Neptune being extremely gentle with the still nervous puppy.
They gave me a puppy, Cecilia thought, having a difficult time forcing this information to sink in. And it wasn't just any puppy. Cecilia had considered getting another dog once upon a time, a companion for Neptune, but she'd put the idea off. She watched the local shelters online in case anything ever jumped out at her, but she'd secretly always liked the idea of getting a Siberian Husky, or another Husky-mix like Neptune was. In the same way that Cecilia's room was perfectly suited to her tastes, so was this puppy. That didn't really surprise her - she wasn't sure that anything would anymore - but it was a little alarming. The cynical voice in her head always coming up with worst case scenarios told her not to get attached to this puppy, and she actually scoffed at the idea. Too late. Far, far too late. It had happened as soon as she opened the door.
A few minutes later she, Neptune, and the new puppy were sitting on the floor outside of Owen's door. The puppy - a girl, Cecilia had checked - was walking back and forth between her and Neptune, and Cecilia was waiting for that same audible click meaning Owen was awake and his door was open.
