I'm sure you're wondering what I'm doing up here at the head of the table
Who: Madrox, open to all X-Men
What: Meeting the troops
When: Saturday afternoon
Where: The Haven war room
Today was a big day for Jamie, and were he honest with himself, he was as terrified as he was excited about it. The last three days had been busy, it was amazing the about-face which Madrox had done. A week of doing nothing, locked away in his room promptly followed by a few days of a literal flurry of activity. Tapes had been reviewed, research conducted, strategy reviewed and courage plucked up. It all lead up to this, the meeting with the troops. "Troops" being the X-men, of course. And who knew how they would react to leaning who their team leader was to be. Jamie was certainly a different kind of leader, if anyone would even give him the chance to be leader.
While Xavier had specifically voiced concerns over Wolverine, Logan was the last of Madrox's worries. What was Wolvie going to do, kill Jamie? ...Again? No, he and the gruff feral had come to some kind of an understanding, he was sure that Logan would at least tolerate him. Grumbling he expected, but he did not anticipate Logan being a real opponent. Nightcrawler, he had been told, had transferred to the X-Men and Madrox was sure the elf would have his back, so no concerns there. That just left the rest of the team. Gulp.
Jamie strode into the room where the team was gathered, or those who were on time, anyway. He kept his back straight, steps quick with a swagger to his shoulders, giving himself a look of confidence which he did not entirely feel, but shhh. That was a secret for him and his dupes. He moved to the head of the War Room table and scanned the faces of those present. Since it had not been announced that he would be assuming the position of field commander of the X-Men, he watched for expressions of fear or suspicion. This was going to be interesting.
"Hi," he began, pausing for a reason he could not quite decide on. Maybe giving people the chance to drink in the reality of the situation? Madrox himself was having a hard time taking taking it all in. "So. Some of you know me, some of you don't. I'm Jamie Madrox... Multiple Man for those of you who like code names. I'm ah, I'm sure you're wondering what I'm doing up here at the head of the table, since I've never been on the team and have probably sexually harassed... probably about half of you, but bear with me! There's a good reason. ...I think it's a good reason."
His grin turned nervous for a moment as he realized what all he had just said. Great. Perfect. Brilliant start to his new team. Clearing his throat, Madrox prepared to backpedal and try and gain a little credibility. "If you didn't guess from the code name... I make copies of myself. Duplicates... Dupes, if you will. If you've had any bad experiences with me, probably best to blame it on one of them. I can't really control just what kind of personality my dupes have. I know I haven't been with the X-Men, but I've been with the Haven, or at least part of me has, for a very long time. I also have spent the last year... learning. A lot. I worked with Peter Wisdom, some of you may know him, and he taught me all--Okay, most of what he knew. I'm no stranger to teams, teamwork or field missions. I want to work with you all first-hand, see your strengths and then see what I can do to challenge you all, to get us working as a team. I have some more goals which can be discussed after we're all more comfortable with each other."
Drawing in a slow breath, green eyes again scanned the faces of those who sat before him. Licking his lips, he scratched at the back of his head before cracking a small grin. "So... Uh... questions?" Maybe not the most inspiring introduction speech, but Madrox wanted to make sure he addressed any concerns which his people had. And you know, wanted to make sure no one wanted to walk out and curse his name, or anything. Madrox was certainly not your usual leader, only time would tell if the team would react well to him or not. "...Oh! And about that sexual harassment thing: Sorry. That was a dupe. I personally yelled at and absorbed him and he hasn't been seen in roughly a year, so I hope you won't hold him against me."
