Ken was glad that he'd managed to find a textbook of kanji, even if he couldn't quite shake the unsettling notion that something had left it there for him to find, and he leaned over the library table studying the characters intently. He already knew almost 1800, which was above average for his age, but after spending so much time with the over-achieving Mitsuru that didn't seem like any reason to stop pressing forward. Hopefully, he'd be able to find the necessary supplies to practice his calligraphy properly too. But for now he copied the characters dutifully into a notebook and hummed softly to himself as he worked, his focus so intense and so complete that he could almost forget where he was. Unfortunately, this also kept him from realizing how late in the afternoon it was and from hearing the bored huff of the shiba inu curled up on the floor beneath the table. Koromaru was uncommonly intelligent and had a far better grasp on time than most canines, so he realized just how long the two of them had been sitting there even if Ken didn't. He realized that it was time to leave the musty library for fresh air and training and, eventually, dinner. The dog was still considering whether or not it was time to go after his partner's attention more directly when the distant sound of an opening door caught his attention and caused his ears to prick. When the footsteps of the new arrival began heading toward their section of the library, he climbed to his feet and trotted away from the table with his claws clicking on the wood. This finally prompted Ken to look up from his book. "Koromaru...?" the boy began, surprised and rising reflexively from his chair. |
