"It's complicated," Ken admitted after a moment of consideration, "There's more to the world than most people know and there are certain...phenomenons? Mr. Dorian thinks it's magic, but I'm not sure that's right." Anything else the boy might've intended to say left his mind immediately as Hawke explained what having magical talent meant where he came from. The boy's frame tensed and the color went out of his blatantly shocked face as he looked away, staring down at his sneakers. In Hawke's arms, Koromaru whimpered softly.
"That's...horrible," he managed after several long moments, shaking his head and forcing himself to look up at the older man, "Why would they do that?" He couldn't understand; it didn't make sense to lock up people that could do so much good and it wasn't right to treat anyone like that.
