Who: Any students eligible to go, also any Professors and Aurors can feel free to have been ordered to patrol to protect the kiddies on this day.
What: Hogsmeade Visit
Where: Hogsmeade
When: Saturday
Warnings: Varied!

The not so newly appointed Headmistress of Hogwarts checked the last name off on her parchment list and dropped her hands to her side, watching with a stern but mildly worried expression as the stragglers loped off in the direction of the Village.

"Is this a good idea?" She asked, not looking away from the quickly moving backs of the students and thus giving the professor standing beside her no indication that they were being spoken to directly. Nevertheless, Minerva had a way of speaking that meant whether the question were meant for you or no, you felt responsible for answering it.

"I did not foresee any dire events on this day, Headmistress...." Professor Trelawney intoned, her thick and dreamy voice somewhat questioning, not certain that the question had an answer at all, and certainly not sure that she had found it.

It did manage to snap the Headmistress out of whatever thoughts had kept her standing still, however. McGonagall's mouth drew into an even tighter, sterner line and she sent the quill and parchment flying back to her office and started, herself, down the road toward Hogsmeade Village. As she adjusted her large hat, words carried on the wind that might have sounded a bit like, "Of course you didn't, barmy bat."

Professor Trelawney, fortunately, did not hear.

Evie would normally have been one of the first students out the front doors, but on this occasion she lingered in the entrance hall, waiting for Alfie. She'd read enough books and seen enough muggle movies to know that if you were having a... date... with someone, it was probably a good idea to walk down with them.

Would she have to hold his hand?

Did she want to hold his hand?

Did he want to hold her hand?

It was so hard to know, and she wished she could ask someone. But who would she ask? No, it was better just to linger at the bottom of the main staircase, waiting for Alfie to come down, and see what happened.

Alfie had forgotten about the upcoming date until that morning, when someone had reminded him - he wasn't sure how it had gotten around that he was having lunch with Evie, or that it was a sort of big deal, but Rivers had mentioned something and so he'd had to go back to his room and put on a nicer shirt and comb his hair.

But he was only a few minutes behind everyone else when he tramped out, and he saw her waiting. WAITING! He hadn't counted on that. He thought they'd meet up at Hogsmeade or something.

She'd wanted a kiss. Was he supposed to kiss her right off, like a hello, or something? He hated feeling this awkward around someone he'd always thought was a pretty good friend.

He decided against the kiss bit, and just went up to her instead, hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans. "Hey, Evie. Ready to go?"

The fact that his hands were stuffed into his pockets didn't escape her, and she heaved an internal sigh of relief. She obviously wasn't going to have to hold his hand, which was good, because it would give her more time to figure out how she felt about holding his hand.

She hadn't forgotten the stupid promise she'd made him, but she wasn't going to bring it up yet, not unless he did. She figured she wouldn't have to worry about that until they were parting ways to go to their separate rooms.

"Yeah, I'm ready," she said, just a hint of shyness in her voice. She gestured with her chin towards the door, and half turned, waiting to see if he moved with her before she began walking to the door.

Evie couldn't understand why people put themselves through this - it was so nerve wracking! She had no idea what she was doing, how she was supposed to act, what she was supposed to say. things had been so much easier when they were just friends, and she wished it was that easy again. The niggling thought that perhaps she just liked girls better was bothering her, lingering in the back of her mind, refusing to be pushed back into oblivion.

She licked her dry lips, then reached into her pocket and brought out her tube of Lisa Turpin's confidence lip gloss. Smoothing some on her lips, she waited for it to take effect.

He watched her putting her lippy on, and then gave her a smile that was wide - like usual - but also looked decidedly nervous. He turned and started walking out with her though, easy enough, and they only had to stop by Professor Trelawney and Headmistress McGonagall so that she could check their names off, then they were off down the path toward the village.

"So. Um. Are you hungry? I mean, I promised lunch, and all. We can go and do that first? Or were there other things you wanted to do?" Please don't want me to go shopping with you and hold bags, he thought prayerfully.

The smile he gave her put her a little more at ease - or was that the lip gloss kicking in? Either way, she smiled back, feeling a little more normal.

"I'm pretty mellow as far as plans go," she told him. " I mean, I wanted to pick up some sweets, but apart form that, I wasn't really thinking about doing much other than wandering around and looking at things I can't afford." She screwed up her face at this remark, sticking her tongue out in the hopes that she could make him laugh.

Was she hungry? "I'm not... especially hungry right now," she said thoughtfully. "But I could probably murder a hamburger a bit later on."

"That astronomy shop lets you go up and look out the top windows..." He suggested with a shrug. The shop had been new the last time he'd been to Hogsmeade, but that had been fourth year - it seemed like forever ago. "Different view than from the towers at Hogwarts." And less impressive, but he didn't know other things they could do. He'd suggest racing around town or buying sweets or hanging about talking Quidditch in the pub... to any of his boy mates. But she was a girl, and this was a date, and he didn't know what to suggest at all.

"That sounds like fun!" Evie said enthusiastically. She was completely at a loss as to what they were meant to do, so she was quite happy to go along with any suggestions Alfie had.

"Hey, maybe afterward we can take a look in Honeydukes," she ventured, hoping to have some input and not look like she was just tagging along with him.

The Owl Office: Megan & OPEN
[info]keepingjones
2009-10-03 06:55 am UTC (link)
Megan Jones had been counting down the days for their first Hogsmeade trip of the term. Alright, so they'd only been at school for a month...but, well, it was Hogsmeade! Because of Megan's non-magical homestead and the negative political air floating about it wasn't a surprise that she didn't go out of her way that summer holiday to...travel north for a little Hogsmeade visit. That would have just been a little counter productive.

Besides....it'd have taken away from the anticipation of going for the last- first time of a term. Which was...in many ways...a strange thought.

Having excused herself from her usual group of Hufflepuff pals, Megan had ventured into the Post Office to pick up a package her brother had sent to her earlier that week. She'd received a special notice saying that the package was being held there due to special delivery request. Though the gesture was a bit odd...she went to receive what was hers. Standing in the short queue formed of locals, Megan was only there briefly before another Hogwarts student entered the place. Offering a smile she said a cordial, "Hullo."

Branwen had been rather surprised to find that it was the Hogsmeade trip that morning, but had decided to make the most of it. Sasha was off with K Bundy for a bit, so she decided to go down to the Owl Post Office. She did have her own owl of course, but Liath was off delievering a message to the Exeter Dunstans to pass on to her family, and she had a question she wanted to ask Tristan. She could have just used the school owls, but she wasn't fond of the Owlery.

When Branwen opened the door to the Owlery she was greeted by another Hogwarts student. She paused to consider the girl in front of her. She came to the conclusion that it was a Seventh Year Hufflepuff, and deciding that it wouldn't contravene her promise to her uncle, she replied.

"Hello," she said softly, with a small smile, "I'm afraid we haven't met before."

Megan returned the girls smile and turned her body slightly to extend her hand. "Megan Jones, Hufflepuff," she introduced herself. Suddenly, she was very much aware that she didn't exactly know who this one was either.

Well, all right, Megan knew the girl was a Ravenclaw. Having spent a number of years going over the snooty blue and bronze table to pester her kid brother three terms below herself, Megan made note of who sat where. That didn't mean, of course, that she knew the girl's name or specific year.

Megan didn't particularly care to keep track of all that for everyone.

"Branwen Dunstan, Ravenclaw, Sixth Year" she replied, taking Megan's hand, and shaking it with a smile. "You just made the Quidditch team, didn't you? Congratulations!" That was one of the best things about having Sasha Fawcett for a best friend - you knew everything that was going on, and you got most of the reports with a fair bit of accuracy.

Megan was actually a little surprised Branwen knew more about her than just her face. It was a little awkward and the slight furrow of her brow acknowledged this. Course, that was quickly wiped away as she replied, "Thanks! Five years of trying and I finally got the spot."

As she said this she chuckled and took a step forward in the queue. The older woman who'd been at the front of the line passed them and exited the shop. Megan of course kept with conversation. "D'you play at all?"

Branwen caught Megan's slight surprise in her usual observant manner. Embarrased, she said, "Sorry! I have a tendancy to do that. Sasha's so much into the rumour mill that I pick up on things, and," she shrugged, "I always comment on them. It kind of confuses people, but I don't mean to! Not," she added, "to say that I'm not pleased to hear you made the team."

Branwen followed the line forward a step, and apoligised, "I don't. I don't understand it at all. My cousin tried to explain i to me, and I even read books about it, but I just can't comprehend its complexities."

The Three Broomsticks: Eloise + OPEN
[info]offandrunning
2009-10-03 09:28 pm UTC (link)
When she'd awakened that morning to remember that it was the first Hogsmeade visit of the year, Eloise was not surprised to find that she had mixed feelings. Eloise had been consistently stressed for the past few weeks and though she'd been managing it well, there was some part of her that found the prospect of wandering through the village in the company of over-excited peers entirely disturbing. Still, she knew that once she got there she'd probably start to feel much better.

So she had dragged herself out of bed, put on a particularly favorite outfit, and treated herself to a hearty breakfast in the Great Hall before heading out in the wake of a group of random fourth and fifth years.

That had been an hour or so ago, and now she was sitting by a window in The Three Broomsticks, a large butterbeer in front of her and a beat up paperback laying open, face down. It looked like a typical Harlequin romance - brawny, long-haired man, and a buxom and sensuous looking woman in the throes of an embrace. Eloise was mostly enjoying her solitude, but was keeping an eye out for any familiar faces nonetheless.

Honeydukes: Mandy and OPEN
[info]mands
2009-10-04 08:23 pm UTC (link)
Like a great portion of Hogwarts students, Mandy left for Hogsmeade shortly after breakfast, intent on spending as much time as possible outside of the castle boundaries. Arriving with her mates a couple of hours ago, they'd split up for a bit as they searched for supplies. As it was nearing lunch, Mandy was sure she'd need to meet up with them shortly for a few butterbeers, but for the moment she was busy trying to attain sugar.

Mandy paused as she stood in front of the sugar quills isle in Honeydukes. She'd been standing there for at least a few minutes trying to decide which ones she wanted. There were so many different flavours to choose from, and Mandy just couldn't make up her mind. Now, whilst she could spend all of her money on her favourite sweets, it wasn't like her mum would send her loads of extra galleons just because she asked. The question was, whether to spend most of it on the quills, variate the type of candy, or just steal some from the boys later. Granted, she may just end up doing the latter anyway. Finally picking out a few different ones, pumpkin pastie, strawberry, blackcurrant and raspberry, Mandy proceeded on to the next isle.

Padma had a bit of a sweet tooth lately. She supposed it was probably partially stress, and she shouldn't indulge it because of that. But she ignored common sense and headed straight for Honeydukes once she'd gotten into Hogsmeade, anyway.

She made her way toward the sugar quills and stopped when she nearly collided with Mandy coming away from the same part. Padma laughed. "Sorry! It's always so crowded in here on Hogsmeade weekends." She glanced at what Mandy hold and smiled. "The raspberry are my favorite. I haven't tried the pumpkin - are they good?" she asked curiously, sidestepping an over-eager third year who was trying to get past her toward the next aisle.

Honeydukes: Mandy and Padma and OPEN

Mandy was a little surprised to find herself nearly knocking into someone. There was the desire to yell at the person, though the desire quicly melted when Mandy realised it was Padma. "No worries," she said with a smile at Padma before shrugging off the incident. It's not like it could be helped considering all of the other people in the shop.

Looking down at the sugar quills Padma pointed out, Mandy laughed softly and nodded her head in agreement. "They're brilliant. Well, they are if pumpkin pasties are your thing." Moving out of the way of another rather bouncy student, Mandy raised a brow at Padma. "Here for anything in particular or just looking to stock up?"

"I tend to like anything if it's sweet enough. My mum always tells me I'll end up twice my own size if I eat what I want," Padma confessed with a laugh, not really looking worried about the prospect.

"Stocking up, mostly. But I thought I'd see what they have that was new. So far just new varieties of Chocoballs, that I've seen. With coconut!" Which made them better, as far as Padma was concerned. Not that the usual strawberry weren't good.

Padma watched the student bounce by Mandy and then rolled her eyes, amused. "Were we ever that small and excitable? Even as third years?" Padma doubted it. Well. Maybe that small.

Three Broomsticks: Dean & Drew & OPEN
[info]deanthomas
2009-10-05 06:08 am UTC (link)
Dean felt like a bit of an arse, really. But he'd said he'd come and it wasn't like he MINDED. He was just pretty sure that he'd meant something different than Summers had. Which would make him a git. But he figured saying something person was less of a git thing to do than taking it back over the journals.

He'd gone off to grab a few things from Honeydukes and told Seamus he'd see him later. (And might have strongly hinted that Seamus should stop by and save him from being awkward.)

Dean dropped down at a table, smiling at Rosmerta as she brought him a butterbeer and then picked up his bag from Honeydukes. He didn't have much cash to spare, but it was the first chance he'd had to get some of the wizarding sweets that he couldn't get over the summer, so he'd splurged a little. He dug out a chocolate frog, catching it before it could hop and taking a look at the card before flicking it back into the bag and taking a bite of the frog, wincing as it stopped squirming. He always felt just a bit bad eating them.

"Hi!!" Drew flurried himself down out of seemingly nowhere around Dean's shoulders, giving him more of a friendly hug than anything else as he slid around and into the chair opposite. He put his elbows on the table, grinning madly, his hair... an unusual shade of flourescent yellow. He didn't seem to act like anything was amiss though. "I'm so happy you could come, I didn't know if you would really, but you did, so yay!" he bubbled enthusiastically. "How are you!"

Dean started a little at the sudden hug, but smiled back - if more than a little awkward. "Hey. . . uhh. . ." his dark eyes snagged on the bright yellow hair. It was like a daisy had camped out on Summers' head. "What happened to your hair?" he asked, bemused. Not that it looked bad or anything. If you liked bright, bright yellow.

He shook his head. "I'm good. You?" Dean had no idea how one eased into a so this isn't a date, okay? sort of topic. He figured he'd just talk a bit and maybe see if he'd been wrong anyway and Summers was just. . . enthusiastic.

And inexplicably yellow, which Dean couldn't help looking at again. Maybe it was closer to banana peels than a daisy.

"Oh Yeaaaah..." Drew said, moving a hand into the canary coloured strands and looking slightly sheepish. "I had a bit of an accident with an incantation and I can't figure out how to change it back." He looked mischieviously pleased about this for some reason.

"I'm really good!" he advised, beaming like a car with the headlights on full. "I got you something." he added, drawing a small box from his pocket. "It's not much, it's just, it's a snitch." he said, unable to maintain his own excitement. He squirmed delightedly in his chair as he passed it over to his date. "It glows in the dark so you can play at night."

"You don't seem to mind it?" Dean asked, laughing a little. "It's all right though. Hufflepuff colors, sort of, yeah?"

Damnit. He was cute and excited. Dean felt sort of like he was getting ready to smack a puppy with a newspaper." Aww, you didn't have to do that, mate," he answered, taking the snitch and flipping the box cautiously open so it wouldn't fly out, seeing the bright golden glow of it, and then shutting it again. He smiled at Drew. "Thanks, though. That was nice."

He should probably just come right out and say that this wasn't a date, or he hadn't meant it to be. But he was a bit of a chicken, Gryffindor or no, and he put it off for another minute. "You want a butterbeer or something?"

Drew shrugged and laughed a little. "Yeah, well I can't change it so I might as well enjoy it until it disappears." Which almost reflected his view on life really. "

He actually looked a bit awkward when Dean opened his present, pushing his yellow yellow hair out of his face and looking down and to the side. "Yeah I did, just, flowers would be too girly." he confessed but there was happiness in that awkward smile as well.

"I asked you so technically I should be buying you the drinks... but okay!" Drew agreed, seemingly unbothered by that technicality.

Dean saw the awkward look and the smile and winced inwardly. "Yeah, I don't mind. Be right back," he answered, sliding out of his seat and going over to the bar.

He went over what he should say in his head, vaguely wishing Lav was around to coach him. When Rosmerta pushed the drinks at him, he took them, walking back over and setting one carefully in front of Drew and then dropping down to sit opposite him again.

"Hey. . . Drew. . . " Plainly, his rehearsals hadn't helped. "I uh, didn't realize that you meant this as a date sort of thing, when you asked. I thought you just meant hanging out as mates. .. unless you did and I'm being daft," he offered, smiling awkward and apologetic.
