Who: Marcus Flint and Susan Bones
When: Backdated to Thursdaaay evening
Where: Rules and then.. ?
What: A date for her birthday!
Rating: TBD
Open/Closed: OPEN- To Susan Bones

He really shouldn't be nervous anymore, should he? Marcus Flint doesn't do nervous. Girls get nervous about him and it's never the other way around. He's never worried about being pleasing enough because, Merlin, he's got a smile that makes casual sex so very easy, makes his life easy.

And look where that got him. Delaney Twilfitt pregnant with his child.

It's no wonder that he's searching for something different. Searching for something so that when Jovian is old enough to ask if his father loves his wife he can answer truthfully with a yes, rather than the grunts given to him by his father.

But the search is awkward. It has him in unfamiliar territory and looking more and more like... like Oliver fucking Wood rather than famed, brutal, handsome, Marcus Flint. But this doesn't stop him from pursuing Susan further. There is the general reasons: she's too pretty, insanely pretty. She's got eyes that make his heart race and he does wonder on occasion what she'd look like with her head tilted back, lips uttering his name in a half moan. But then there is more than that cropping up. He can't get enough of how kind she is, how understanding. She's patient and she's got a love for gardens that he shares and he can't help but think she'd be grand with Jovian, but he refuses to linger on that last thought very long.

It's these thoughts so heavy in his mind that has him nervous as he steps into her little shop to meet her. He's in a crisp black shirt and tie, something fit for a more upscale muggle eatery than a wizarding one, and his wand is tucked in a strap around his calf. He pauses in the middle of the shop and tilts his head, not sure if he wants to call for her just yet. Instead he slowly begins to look about the shelves.

Oh, holy Helga. The gentle kiss to her cheek brought a deep shade of crimson across her cheeks and across her nose. Her breath caught in her throat as she looked up at him before quickly looking down at the box he held out for her. Eyes widened in shock, as she took the box from him, "Marcus, you didn't have to do that. The earrings were more than ---" Her voice trailed off as she opened the box just to be rendered speechless by its contents.

Gasping, fingers traced over the necklace. "Oh." Was all she could say initially. She was feeling spoiled, and a little guilty that she didn't get him anything. Emerald earrings and now this?

"It's brilliant, Marcus!" Green eyes finally tore away from the necklace to look up at him, "Thank you so much." A bright smile curled on her lips, as she stood on her tip toes to press a very light kiss against his cheek. "You really didn't have to get me anything." Was she upset? Merlin, no. Surprised? Beyond belief. Marcus Flint was surprising her left and right, and she really couldn't complain.

He doesn't buy gifts like this for just anyone, that is for sure. Most girls he takes out he might lavish with buying their drinks all night or putting the pair up in style for the night, but that is about it. Whatever is driving Marcus to spoil Susan is only being encouraged by the way she responds to the gift. Her eyes light up and her smile has his knees feeling weak.

Then comes the light graze of her lips to his cheek and he resists, best he can, the urge to pull her to him and do something far less innocent. It's in his nature to want that, to want pretty girls like her, but he knows it isn't right. Not this one, he refuses.

Instead he places a light hand to her hip and lifts another to gently pluck from her hands the box. Without a word he is removing the necklace and walking around her, hand trailing over her abdomen as he moves. Then he speaks, soft and low with his head tilted down a bit.

"Happy Birthday, Susan," he fastens it about her neck, hand lingering on her right shoulder a moment before he steps back and turns her about to see how it looks. But his eyes don't linger on the necklace, they flicker up to catch her gaze.

"Stunning really... ready?"

Susan remained very still as his hand moved to her hip and the other plucked the necklace from the box. Tilting her head to the side, teeth sank into her bottom lip to try and suppress her giggle. Susan really was shocked, this had to be one of the most amazing gifts she's ever received. Feeling the weight of the necklace on her neck, head tilted down to try and see it. Fingers lifted to trace over the edge of the center emerald, a bright smile surfaced on her lips.

"It's beautiful, Marcus. I can't thank you enough." Cheeks flushed a slight pink as she looked back down at the necklace.

Finding herself lost in thought, Susan felt a little guilty about all of this. Almost like it was forbidden, each time she thought about Marcus it sent her heart beating against her chest. It was the thrill that came with actually dating someone who was considered a villain at Hogwarts. Who would have thought that goody-two-shoes Susan Bones would be going on a date with Marcus Flint?

Thoughts were immediately broken when he asked if she was ready, "Hm?" Glancing up at him, she smiled once more, "I am ready, are you?" She teased before reaching for a light grey sweater that was hanging off the back of a chair.

"Of course," he replied, a hand sliding easily into hers. "Side-apparation okay?"

And if it was he'd happy to whisk them away without another word. He was eager for dinner, eager to sit and.. well, oddly enough he was suddenly eager to ask her about a million questions. Marcus wasn't just surprising her as he was also very much surprising himself.

"I already made the reservations," he added. Another oddity as he didn't often make such elaborate plans for girls. Nor did he make efforts to try and get a table at a muggle eatery. To withstand them was going to be quite an effort.

Lacing her fingers into his grasp, Susan nodded in agreement about side-apparation. Inching just a little bit closer to his side, eyes closed tightly anticipating that scary disorientating moment that came with apparating. Susan was not a fan of apparation, but she knew it was a necessity. She just hated the idea of being splinched.

"You made reservations?" Susan immediately bit down on her lip to keep from saying anything more. The shock in her tone must have evident, but Susan was ungrateful. "I'm actually a bit surprised that you're willing to go. No offense, I just thought... well, to be quite honest, I didn't think you were really a fan of muggles." Tilting her head to the side she looked up at him, a bright and rather innocent smile attempting to make her words less offensive than how they sounded in her mind.

"Well.. I'm not, really," he muttered somewhat embarrassed to have to say that to her of all people. Usually he wore that prejudice proudly but the way she said that had him feeling odd about it. He gave her hand a warning squeeze before the apparation happened.

One minute they were in the apothecary, the next they were at the shadowed lip of an alleyway near Rules. Marcus glanced down at her to make sure she was okay before guiding them onto the sidewalk and toward their destination. He had, indeed, made a reservation and in person because the girl that greeted them remembered him at once and went pink in the cheeks.

"Reservations for Marcus Flint," he reminded her, but there was no need. She knew, so she guided them to a table near the back that was a bit further away from other patrons. Marcus pulled out Susan's chair for her and waited for her to sit before he took his seat.

"This is for you though," he said suddenly, picking up from the conversation before they left. "It's your birthday."

It all happened so quickly, which left Susan with that disorientating feeling. Swallowing slightly, eyes finally opened when she felt solid ground once more. Eyes adjusted quickly to the dark alley as they made their way out and towards Rules. The blush on the hostess cheeks made Susan arch a finely sculpted brow. Marcus' appearance must make muggle women even more breathless, after all Susan knew it was magic that made him look so perfectly sculpted, but muggles didn't. Susan could only guess what was going through the hostess' mind as she guided them to their table. Was that a glare of envy she just gave Susan?

Taking a seat as Marcus pulled it out for her, Susan smiled. "Thank you." Glancing down at the menu which she was given, Susan didn't have to look at it long to know immediately what she wanted.

"Well," She looked up from the menu, head tilting slightly as green eyes studied Marcus at the opposite side of the table, "I certainly appreciate the exception you're making for me." She stated honestly. Susan came from a long bloodline of purebloods, notable ones at that. Most of them were killed off by Death Eaters for being Order members, but it never stopped Susan from being a muggle supporter. Of course, like any pureblood she wasn't the most knowledgeable when it came to muggles, but she didn't hate them.

The fact that Marcus was willing to come here despite not liking muggles spoke on so many levels for Susan. She felt happy that he was willing to push his prejudices aside for her. She knew better than to think that Marcus would somehow become a muggle ally, but this was a good start. Tolerating them for a meal at one of the best restaurants in London made her happy.

The corner of his mouth twitched and twisted up into a lopsided smirk. He was't watching her though, but was instead letting his eyes dance over the menu for a brief moment. He had never been here before and while most of the items were the same as any wizarding meal, some were clearly not. It was custom to drink things like butterbeer or pumpkin juice in certain wizarding eateries. In high class places the drinks still resembled potions more than anything and some were just that: legal ways of enhancing a date through various mood alternating potions.

It took him a moment to figure out what he'd want to drink and when the waiter appeared Marcus held a short conversation with the man about wines and ended up ordering a bottle of their finest wine. As the waiter flitted off to get that, Marcus set down the menu and tilted his head.

"I've never been here before, what do you suggest?"

Susan was mid-sip of her water when Marcus admitted he's never been to Rules. Eyes widened as she almost choked on her water. "You've never been here before?!" Susan was shocked, but then again, she really shouldn't be that surprised. "Oh Merlin, Marcus, you're really missing out, their steak and kidney pie is something to die over." Biting down on her bottom lip, Susan pulled out her menu once more and studied it a little more thoroughly.

"My family used to make this restaurant their annual family gathering spot. Imagine nine witches and wizards sitting here trying to keep their voices down around the muggles." Glancing up from her menu she looked around the restaurant, trying imagine where they would all sit. "Of course, that was before I was born," Shrugging slightly, she looked down at the menu once more. "After my aunt died my father took me here every Sunday before going back to Hogwarts. I quickly learned they have the most brilliant steak and kidney pie I have ever had."

Blinking, Susan looked up at Marcus, a tiny smile curling on her lips, "Sorry, that was probably more information than you wanted to know. Get the pie, you won't regret it, I promise."

He shook his head, "nope."

His lips pursed. Well, now he knew what he'd be getting now, that made things easier. He watched her study that menu and found himself entranced with how she bit on her lip as she did so. When she finally looked up he had to blink away his dazed feeling.

"No, no, I want to... well, I'm Sorry about your aunt," and then he suddenly realizes he knows exactly who she is talking about. Amelia Bones. His stomach twists and lurches and he remembers his father talking about that, laughing at the way it happened. He remembers his father calling Amelia a blood-traitor.

"... you can tell me anything," he says finally. The waiter returns and he orders for them, two steak and kidney pies and then he's gone to place their order, menu's taken away.

"Does your father not take you here anymore?"

A wave of her hand dismissed his apology, "Oh, it's all right, Marcus." Susan couldn't tell if he was saying upon instinct or if he really meant it and she didn't really want to know the answer. The past seven years were hard without her aunt around. She was always so close with her aunt, she was like a second mother, kind and wise and compassionate. She would how to deal with all these feelings and confusing emotions.

Susan blushed slightly as Marcus ordered for them both, that was something she was not used to. Something about that made her feel formal and safe, like she could trust Marcus to make decisions for her. Fingers, almost subconsciously reached for the necklace around her neck and slowly traced over the center emerald.

At the question about her father, Susan blushed more profusely and looked down at the napkin in her lap. "I, well," She cleared her throat and shook her head, "He's not very happy with me at the moment." Shrugging slightly, Susan looked back up at Marcus. "Between announcing an engagement and then calling it off, he thinks I'm being indecisive and inconsistent. Whatever that means. I think he's just upset that he doesn't have grandchildren." Rolling her eyes slightly, Susan shook her head.

"What about your parents? You mentioned your mother, what about your father?" Susan didn't mean to pry, she was genuinely interested in everything about Marcus Flint. After all, she was so hasty to make assumptions about him before, she wanted to know what else she thought about him in Hogwarts was wrong.

He makes a face and almost smirks at the very thought of his father. What could be said about him that was remotely positive?

"Well.. he's the reason I'm where I am right now. He pushed me to be the best, pushed me to make the choices I made good and bad. He's a manager for the Falcons, actually, and not... a very nice man. You'd never want to meet him, even on a good day, trust me," he scratched at his chin a moment.

"I mean, I guess I had a choice but it was just easier to go with the flow, or.. fuck, whatever. You're lucky, even if you're father is mad at you he's probably a good bloke. Would probably hex someone like me for taking someone like you out."

"Your father sounds like a..." Voice trailed off as she wasn't quite sure what to call him. "Like a... rather terrifying sort." The second half of that comment was muttered quickly, and instantly followed by a sip of her water. In comparison to her father, Marcus' father seemed like something nightmares were made of.

A bright smile curled on her lips at the mention of what her father might do to Marcus, Susan bit down on her bottom lip to suppress a giggle. "I don't think you have anything to worry about, Marcus, father is painfully near-sighted, unless you plan on standing three inches from his nose, I think you could get a good running start." Tilting her head to the side, dark green eyes lifted to look at him.

"Of course, you might have to contend with the likes of Ernie, he didn't seem too pleased to find out that I had tea at some mysterious bloke's home three weeks ago." Susan said more passively than she meant to. It was better to get Marcus ready now for whatever drama might come along than to actually start a relationship and then be introduced to her petty things. Of course, Susan couldn't even fathom dating Marcus Flint, she barely knew if he actually had those sort of feelings for her. The gift on her ears and around her neck might say otherwise, but Susan could never be quite sure. Once again, at the thought of the necklace, fingers lifted to trace along the center emerald.

He heard it though and couldn't help but grin at the comment. The truth was just that, wasn't it? He took a sip of his wine and then leaned forward a hand coming to rest near the middle of the table as if he had hoped her hand was there as well.

"Ernie is jealous of me?" he asked suddenly, interest piqued. Now he couldn't hide the grin even if he wanted. Cheeky thing, too, as he arched an eyebrow and made an almost silly attempt at a 'sexy' expression. "Is he scared that I'm charming the robes right off of you?"

He didn't lean back, but rather, inched his hand forward and tilted his head somewhat. His voice lowered the smallest bit and his expression was suddenly very serious.

"Is it working though? Am I courting you proper? I want it to be proper, I don't usually do it this way, but I want it this way."

"To be honest, I think he might be. Not jealous of you specifically since I didn't tell him who I had tea with, but I think he might be jealous." Susan found herself moving a little closer as well as her hand was drawn towards the center of the table. The expression had her blushing as she looked down at their hands, as her fingers slowly traced over his fingers, "I'm not quite sure what he's scared of, though, I would imagine that would be one of his fears."

As Marcus lowered his voice, Susan found herself leaning a little closer, until she leaning against the table. Lips curled into a coy smirk as she felt like her heart was going to pound out of her chest once more, "I think you are," Green eyes flickered to look back up at him, her hand finally resting in his grasp. "If I didn't know any better, I would say you have done this before."

Tilting her head to the side, Susan could see easily why women so easily fell under his spell. He was incredibly charming, and not that bad to look at, but underneath all those superficial traits, Susan could sense something else. Something that told her he was actually trying to be a better person. There was a sincere honesty about him that made her want to know him better.

"Oh, so he has no idea who this mystery wizard is, then? Hmm.." and try as he might, he couldn't hide how terribly delighted it made him to be able to hold her hand. She said perhaps, if she didn't know better, that he had done this before and honestly it was only a half-truth.

He shrugged slightly, pad of his thumb rolling over her knuckles slowly.

"Mmm.. yes and no. I've charmed women before, I've never done it so slowly. I've never courted before," which was he decided he was doing, whether Ernie liked it or not.

He could've sat there and held her dainty hand in his own for ages had their food not arrived moments later. Reluctantly he let go of the small fingers he had curled his digits around and went about eating slowly, eyes watching her as he did.

Marcus did enjoy the meal greatly, and made sure to mention it several times. The rest of the date went flawlessly, in his opinion. The meal was excellent, even though it was muggle all the way, and her company left him in such high spirits by the end of the night that he was grinning like a fool when he dropped her off at the apothecary again.

He had almost, almost leant in to kiss her proper but something kept him from doing it. Instead, he had ended up letting his lips plant a soft kiss on her cheek instead and left it at that. How that satisfied him was beyond explanation, but over all.. the birthday date was insanely good. He would have to get a reading from Stephen as soon as possible to determine if he was going about things right.

It certainly felt right.

[Hope you don't mind me fading it there, I didn't want to keep you waiting for posts and figured it was a good place to fade it since I didn't want to him to do anything too insane just yet. Lemme know if you want to change this though, cos I can. <33 ]
