Wireless Broadcast, 10 August 2009 |
[Aug. 10th, 2009|03:48 pm] |
[editorial news broadcast interrupting programming on Monday, 10 August 2009. Rebroadcast during the day's news updates]
Witches and Wizards of Britain, we can be proud to call ourselves British today and proud to ally ourselves with our nascent government. It seems that youth is not to be looked down upon and that Public Safety Minister Charles Weasley has indeed risen to the challenge of his new position. Under his leadership the Ministry for Public Safety has already effected the rescue of another witch being held by the muggle captives. No identifying details have been released, though the witch in question is confirmed to be safe and recovering at Eryri Ysbyty. A hearty congratulations are in order to the Ministry for Public Safety and all those involved in the rescue efforts.
We'll take this opportunity to also offer our congratulations to Healers Pye and Pucey - their Diagon Alley clinic opened for business today. The Wireless is happy to announce that it too will be located in Diagon Alley in the near future and urges fellow business proprietors to do the same. Continuation of commerce will help our survival.
This is Zach Smith, encouraging you to stay vigilant and stay strong. |

Wireless Broadcast, 21 July 2009 |
[Jul. 21st, 2009|09:50 am] |
First Broadcast during the morning news hour. Rebroadcast throughout the day.
A bright new day dawns for wizarding Britain today with the announcement of the forming of the new Wizengamot along with with the revealing of Britain's new top officials. Lucius Malfoy takes on the position of Chief Warlock, a post held at one point in time by former Headmaster of Hogwarts Albus Dumbledore. Lucius brings many years of experience in the Ministry to the job. Percival Weasley is Britain's new Minister for Magic. While his acceptance of this position makes him one of the youngest to hold it, his record working in the Ministry is impressive. Perhaps he is indeed the man that can assist in leading Britain forward through these difficult times. There was also the announcement of a newly created position - Minister of Wizarding Safety - to be filled by Charles Weasley. The hope is that he will lead our safety from those muggles that seek to harm us.
Britain will prevail. If there is anything to be gained and taken with us from this announcement, it is that. We have just been witness to the birth of our new government during a time of trial. Now, it needs our help and support to survive. Wizarding Britain will not be lost, no matter what those outside of our shores may thing. We will not abandon our country in its time of need. We will remain here and lend our help to ensure its survival. For those who have left Britain - we cannot guarantee complete safety if you return to Britain's shores, but we can guarantee a chance to be part of history as it happens and work towards a stronger wizarding Britain for ourselves and for our children. |

Who: Malcolm Baddock and... When: Sunday evening (May 31) Where: You know that hole-in-the-wall Asian noodle shop run by that nice Wizarding couple? ...Merlin, what's the name of that place? What: A dinner conversation Rating: TBD STATUS: Open; Incomplete
Malcolm drummed his fingers on the table as he waited for his soba. It was in restaurants and bars where he noticed the most changes in Britain. Three years ago, it would have been impossible for him to get a table. Not anymore, he thought, raising the glass of water as his eyes scanned the room. A loud noise sent his gaze over to the kitchen, where he saw Mrs. Liao surveying the dining room. Their eyes met, and she offered him a sad smile before turning to the kitchen to deal with some minor problem or other.
Perhaps he had made a mistake by coming back so soon--thought it had been two years since he left, and he thought that things would have healed more significantly by now (he thanked Mrs. Liao as she set the plate of noodles in front of him, picking up his fork eagerly). It wasn't just the wizards who were tense; Muggles seemed more on edge themselves. The whole situation had left the country feeling darker and (at least in his mind) more panicked than they had been in the years of He Who Must Not Be Named.
He placed his fork down again, staring at the untouched plate for a second. He looked up, startled to hear the door open. |

As part of the Wireless' efforts to support the wizarding cause, we'll be starting a series profiling various wizards and witches of Britain. The first wizard to be profiled and interviewed will be Mr. Neville Longbottom. Nominations and suggestions for other wizards and witches can be sent via owl to the Wireless post box in Diagon Alley or via the magical journals to myself.
In efforts to expand our broadcast services and offer more programming, the wireless is pleased to announce the opening of another position on its staff. Inquiries should be directed to my attention via journal or owl. |

11 May 2009 - Wireless |
[May. 11th, 2009|11:04 pm] |
Broadcast Monday Evening - edits shown are for zach's reference only. Nothing that was striked was read aloud
In America, they have popularized the saying, "United we stand, divided we fall." Perhaps there is some merit to this statement. A quidditch team that is not unified in its strategy is almost guaranteed to hand over victory to the opposition. We are in a time of war and a time of trial. Regardless of our personal feelings on matters, this is not the time for a civil war fraternal strife amongst British wizards. When so many of us are still missing relatives and loved ones, we cannot squabble with each other. To put it simply, no wizarding faction has the strength to fight a war on two fronts both our enemies and other wizards. Our schools, hospital, and government have been attacked, but we are still here. We have survived. We will survive. Now is the time for wizards to come together, to put aside the past and ensure that there is a future. Only by working together and presenting a unified force of wizarding Britain can we accomplish this.
Fate rarely calls upon us at a moment of our choosing. My fellow witches and wizards, that the moment is forced upon us now. Ours is a generation specially called to be tested, and we will not be found wanting. We are being called upon to stand together for what we believe in, to preserve our way of life so that our children might have the opportunity to grow up in a safe world where our way of life is preserved they can be witches and wizards and inherit that which we were given by our parents. We want to be able to live a peaceful existence, to not be afraid of stepping outside or of playing a game of quidditch or going to school.
I challenge each and every listener now. What will you do to help wizarding Britain? Will you put aside old school rivalries and stand side by side, ready and willing to help in whatever way you can? Let it not be said that we were the authors of our own demise because of internal squabbles we would not put aside. Magic has been part of Britain for over a thousand years, it is up to us to ensure that it has the chance for the next thousand years. The ties that bind us are more powerful than the divisions differences that threaten to divide. For those ties and for the future of magic, we must unite and be strong. We must show the world that we are not so easily conquered. We are wizards and we are Britons - our ancestors tamed this land, lived and died to protect it. Now is our chance to do the same. |

Zacharias arrived promptly for lunch at the OWLS club, dressed in a set of what were fine contemporary robes from a years ago before all this mess started. He handed his card to the host when he entered, waiting patiently for him to return. Zach had his editorial statement prepared for Lucius to look over as well as ideas in his head about what to do with the Neville situation. The host returned and led Zach to Lucius' table where Zach clasped Lucius hand and gave him a smile.
"It's good to see you again, Lucius," he said, doing his best not to call the other man sir. |

Owl, warded, to Z. Smith |
[May. 9th, 2009|07:23 pm] |
Smith,
I was quite pleased with your recent broadcast of the statements. Progress is being made with respect to the Ministry and more importantly the Wizengamot. I am cautiously optimistic that they might at last be about to do the right things, with my help.
It might be advantageous for you to use your position to shape opinion in a direction that favors our goals.
Something like an editorial praising the bravery of the rescuers but suggesting that this is the kind of thing that we need professionals to handle. All wizards need to work together, forget differences amongst ourselves because we need to preserve our lives and our way of life here in Britain as Britons.
I'll be working on a little project related to this all weekend, but if you'd like to talk Monday, I'l be at the OWLS lounge midday. There will be some significant news on Monday evening, but we may not be ready to release it just yet.
Regards, Malfoy |

Owl Post: Juliet Orfanos |
[May. 8th, 2009|11:36 am] |
Dear Madame Orfanos,
I must first commend you on your excellent conduct in the activities of the past few weeks.
I have a small favour to ask. Do you possibly still know the whereabouts of Fräulein Franziska von Bulow and whether or not she is yet married?
Forgive me if this request is out of place, but the events of the past few weeks have served to remind me of my age and the fact that I am still as of yet unmarried.
Thank you for all your help.
Sincerely,
Zacharias I. Smith |

Warded Owl Post to Lucius Malfoy |
[May. 4th, 2009|11:01 am] |
Lucius-
The Ministry has requested an audience with Caesar tomorrow. I assume this is a reference to the letter, but I do not recall a reference to Caesar in my magical history. Could you enlighten me or recommend a text? The Ministry waits on our response. I told them I would see what I can do, but I make no guarantees. If you wish, I can meet with them tomorrow. I understand if you are too busy.
I plan on broadcasting the statement on the wireless tonight. I thought I would let the Ministry think they have privilege.
Yours, Zacharias I. Smith |
