When two become one, or was that three? (Erics)
The night had come. She wasn't nervous or upset. She hadn't minded that the two Vikings had found some solace or enjoyment in each other's arms. Oddly she felt it was to be expected. She hadn't even minded that she hadn't been asked to come and play; she would have been happy to, but it was neither here nor there. If it had been someone else, her feelings might have been different, depending on the time, place, and person.

So, there the crone sat on a bed she'd shared with her husband long ago before he was her husband. Before they'd taken to living together. Before a good bit. She looked around the dark room, meant to keep him save from the sun outside. Her blood now did that.

She hadn't dressed up for the night. She hadn't brought them dinner, or tried to set a mood. She'd simply made her way to the room and sat on the bed to wait. It wasn't that she felt she had to do anything, nor did she seem to be waiting to out the other woman, or man. She just waited patiently to see how the night would go. To see what might happen because anything could and possibly would happen.

The crone shifted a little, feeling oddly restless. That was perhaps the only thing that distracted her from what enjoyment she sought here. Things were changing again in the City; balance or chaos was soon to come. Or both, knowing this place.

So, she waited to see what was going to happen.

"I would love to." Lief snapped, not angry with her, but at the situation. Both men flinched a bit at the fire, surely if she hurled it it would destroy them both. Eric was confident that Baba would not do such a thing, and his belief was solidified when she sent it back away.

Lief placed a hand on Eric's shoulder, attempting to push away, but his hand sank in and Eric's body swallowed it. Absorbed it. They began to pull together, each trying to go in his own way, but it seemed to just draw them closer. As they paid attention only to their upper halves, their legs had combined entirely. The two men were now two torsos upon a singular pair of legs, bent in seemingly impossible directions.

"Baba." Eric said, giving his attention to her. "My wife. I do love you."

He was abnormally calm for a moment, ignoring what was happening to him and his mirror. It didn't hurt. He didn't really feel much of anything physically. But he could not hold back the confusion and need to survive as himself for long, and he returned his mind to the occurrence.

They struggled, trying to part from one another, doing not much of anything at all.

That's when it hit the crone. Right in the chest. His words of love and the image of two men becoming one. The way the bond between them flowed not just from one but both men, the confusion.

She knew it was coming, but she didn't imagine this. She couldn't have. The balance had to be maintained, but this was not what she expected or even wanted. She'd have preferred the death of the other rather than a ...she had no idea what was really happening, other than the reality eliminating the abnormality, of righting itself.

"You do not do this!" She looked up at the ceiling, but her target audience was the City. "You cannot have him, you stupid child! You ridiculous idiot! You give him back! You send the other away! You do it now!"

Things were starting to shake, and at least one cushion exploded, stuffing going everywhere.

"You fix this!"

Eric longed to comfort his wife. To touch her and hold her and stop what was happening. But he also did not wish her to somehow get pulled into the ... mess .. of what he was currently. He did not even know how to accurately describe the sensation, and had no idea if they were going to be alive after.

Lief had grown completely silent, and Eric could not turn to look at him. Moving their hands and feeling for the other man told him that Lief's head had become a part of his neck and shoulder. And that the mass was shifting upward, as if to realign itself better.

He watched Baba's power begin to destroy the room. He tried to encourage her to keep fighting and demanding, but his mouth was no longer a mouth. Eric kept his eyes on his wife for as long as he could, until they too were swallowed into the blob.

The pair melted entirely, then. Becoming a formless and featureless substance on the bed, moving a bit like gelatin. Slowly, features began to form. Legs and arms, a distinct head. Until it was one Eric, curled on the sheets, eyes closed.

"You will pay for this." The crone didn't yell. Her voice was low and steady, perhaps an indication of just how much trouble the City was in. By the end of it, as the blob took over the bed, the room itself had turned upside down. There was at least one lamp stand fixed to the ceiling, and it was probably not coming down for a while. The small woman considered burning the blob, but that nagging feeling said wait, watch, yield.

Tears wet her cheeks as the blob became less and less of a blob and more of an..Eric? Her lips pursed; she moved closer to the bed, tears still falling. There was at least one wall burnt from electrical overload. Anything that could explode might have; there had been little satisfaction in it, but the nagging feeling hadn't stopped her in that. It had only wanted her to wait to see what came next.

When the form became a complete Eric, she climbed carefully on to the bed to look down at him. She didn't touch him, not yet. Something felt different, and tears threatened to blur her vision completely. Reality righted itself and, in so doing, took away her husband, the only man who saw her for more than some evil sorceress. He loved her warts, bags, cabin, and all. Now, she could barely feel him, not quite as if the man was completely something or someone else, but pretty damn close.

She finally touched his shoulder. Not sure what to call him because even in the touching, she could feel he was something different.

The touch was comfort, though he felt like he was sensing Baba through a lake of water. She was there, somewhere, he knew. As he started to open his eyes, a sudden flood washed over him, all of Lief's - the other Eric's - memories invading him all at once.

Eric gritted his teeth, trying to keep himself quiet, but the scream built with the pain and issued through his lips without his permission.

Though it passed quickly in reality, it felt like years.

When it did finally subside, Eric opened his eyes fully, turning on his back and stared at the ceiling. He knew there was no more other. That he was alone with his wife in the room, but not. Lief was still there with them. But inside.

He was Eric and Lief. Lief and Eric. Whole again, more than himself. And very happy to discover that it was not as if there were two minds in one body, just a lot of memories that had not been his before.

The room smelled of burning and he turned his head to look for her, reaching for her. "Baba?"

The scream made her jump, and the crone wasn't used to such sounds coming from those lips. She knew that he could probably make them, but she'd never had the experience. She moved closer, her hands on his shoulder as she tried to comfort him, to let him know he wasn't all by himself. Her fingers combed through his hair.

"I'm here." She still didn't use his name. She wasn't sure whose name to use. Her hands moved over his skin, touching his jaw, his cheeks. She was there, for him, no matter who he was. She leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to his forehead, then lower to his lips.

"I'm right here." The destruction around her ignored, and she wouldn't bother noticing it until she had to. Perhaps it had been the only way to channel some of the power she'd been subject to throughout the change. She kissed him again.

"I have his memories." Eric said quietly. He found Baba's hand and wrapped his own around it, kissing her fingertips gently. His lovely wife. She had stayed by him through the horror, and he could only imagine what it had looked like on the outside.

"I know everything he did in that place. From the time he got there to when he arrived here."

The way that he had built his strange empire in New Troy. The deal he'd made with the citizens there, down to where he'd kept certain books in his desk. It was so very strange.

Eric opened his eyes and looked at his wife. "But other than his memories, there's no trace of him here with me."

The crone watched the Viking carefully. Her head tilted slightly, listening carefully. She leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his lips again. They were both without clothes, which might have seemed strange at this particular time. Neither cared; clothes really weren't a concern between the two of them.

She looked into those eyes. She'd looked into them many times before, and her brows furrowed.

"I do not believe that is the case. I wish that were not the case, but you feel different. Can't you feel it? It's different. Perhaps it is residual, but it is different." She took a deep breath and let it go slowly.

Eric shook his head gently. The pain was gone, but he worried about it returning if he moved too quickly.

"No. I can't feel it right now. But I am very tired." He gave a bit of a tug on Baba's hand, urging her to come closer. "Perhaps if I rest I will be able to tell better."

He wanted sleep right now. Nothing more. Sleep, and then they would figure it all out together.

He'd settled for the basics, the base of his needs. The crone's lips pursed for only a moment as she wanted to understand, to know, to find the truth behind it all. He wanted to rest. She took another deep breath and gave him yet another kiss.

"You will feed, then you will rest." She lifted her wrist to his lips. She curled up at the Viking king's side, and kissed near his ear. A soft nip at his earlobe. "Feed now, Viking. Then rest."

She wasn't sure what it would do, but she was concerned that he might fall into a sleep that not even the City could wake him from. "Feed."

Even if he'd been in any kind of shape to argue, Eric wouldn't have. He knew the concern and shared it. He'd lost a lot during that... whatever it was. He needed the strength that blood would provide, and he wanted the strength that her blood in particular promised.

Eric placed a gentle hand over hers and pressed her flesh to his mouth. He tilted his head so that he could get a better angle with his fangs, and bit in carefully. He made sure that it did not hurt, but did not taint the feeding with any pleasure. This was for one purpose, and they had much to discuss. Perhaps she would not want to still be his wife when it was over, and he did not want her to feel strange about what was happening now.

He had enough to keep himself running, and stopped. "Lay with me?" He asked quietly.

There was a soft gasp as fangs broke flesh; it didn't matter that there was no pain, or pleasure for that matter. It was simply the act of feeding. Devoid of anything that could mean something. She sighed against his skin then pulled her hand away to rest on his chest, near his heart. She kissed near his ear.

"Yes. I will be here when you wake. We will talk when you wake." She snuggled into the side of his body after pulling the bedcovering up to cover both of them, especially her. She didn't exactly sleep like the dead after all.

"Rest now."
