I'm not au fait with the customs of the time. But I had a discussion with a Mr Lestrade whom I believed to be Lord Stanley, the traitor since the resemblance is truly uncanny.

He seems to have taken great offense to this and been quite rude.

Is this normal or is he just an idiot

Seems he is quite rude, and this is coming from a Scot, so yes, he's being an idiot. Considering he's actually been exposed to some of the issues with facetwins already, he really ought to be more understanding.
