I think that the worst part of the holiday season for me has got to be the smells. I stopped by a few stores to window shop for prospective presents for friends and my nose was assaulted by pine air fresheners and those baskets of holiday themed scented soaps and creams. I guess it's one of those things you just have to tolerate.

Is anyone doing anything fun tonight?

It is a bit of an assault, isn't it? Annoying, really.

The worst one, I think, is the spray people use to make their fake plastic Christmas trees smell more authentic. It doesn't take a sensitive nose to tell real from fake in that case.

If you want authentic, get authentic, that's all I'm saying.

I don't want to get in trouble with the environmentalists that may or may not be here, but I like real trees. Even the scrawny, Charlie Brown kind. My family never put up a tree, but I could smell them on display in town squares and stuff.

Real ones are always better. That's quite a distance, I'm guessing.

Not too far away, but far enough. My enhanced senses aren't always a pain for me.

Useful, at least.

Very useful! Especially back home. I'm sort of like a one person crime lab. Do you have enhanced senses as a vampire?

Yeah, I do. Probably not at your levels, though.

You should go by restaurants instead. Food smells better than lotion.

You're right. Food smells much better than lotion. I will have to get used to it, though, if I'm going to go Christmas shopping.

But Rachel. You'll get trampled. People are crazy when they're holiday shopping.

I think I have a solution for that. I was thinking I'd skip shopping at peak hours and I'll be skipping Black Friday altogether. Stores are crowded messes on Black Friday.

You should still be careful. There will still be lots of people. Crowds. Big crowds.

I promise to always exercise caution while shopping.

Holiday scents can be quite nice, I find... when they aren't fake, that is. But the fake ones are just all fakey and chemicaly and not right at all. If you want the smell of pumpkin pie, why not just make a pumpkin pie? Then you get the smell, and you get pie! It's more practical that way, isn't it?

I usually like food smells, especially when said food is still warm and in the oven. Pumpkin pie is an especially nice one.
