There was a reason that Stiles had taken a bus and not a plane when he traveled from Lawrence to Van Nuys to Memphis to Rochester, New York. It was because he actually hated flying. He was still feeling a little bit nauseous from the three and a half hour plane ride from New York to Kansas. Then again, it could have just been his nerves. He was still kind of stunned that they'd ambushed him at the bus station. Okay, so ambush might have been too strong of a word. He should never have told Scott and Lydia that he was meeting up with druids. He should have known that would freak them out, considering everything back home. And if he hadn't been running on about two hours of sleep in several days, he definitely would have known that it was a terrible idea.
He'd still met with the druid group -- and much to his disappointment but not to his surprise, they were basically nature loving hippies. Which was fine. There was nothing wrong with that. Under other circumstances he probably would have enjoyed the dinner at their public meeting, but new friends wasn't what he was looking for. He was looking for a way to save an old friend. To save his best friend and the girl he loved the heartbreak of losing said old friend. But it was pretty apparent it wasn't going to be because of that group.
And now they were back in Kansas. Where they all lived together, and Lydia had no idea what they'd been to each other here before, and Chris Argent and Scott and Lydia had all lived through Allison dying because of the Nogitsune. Because of him. He was already thinking in the back of his very sleep-deprived mind that it might be for the best if he moved into the Complex for the displaced. But he was going to sleep on it and see how he felt about all of it in the morning. He doubted he'd feel any less uncomfortable or out of place.
It also meant that for the time being at least, his efforts to find some way to save Allison back home were on hold. He'd tapped out all the resources in Lawrence that he felt comfortable using. He couldn't -- and wouldn't ask anyone in Lawrence. It was way too risky.
He followed his friends into the house, watching them disperse to their own rooms and Stiles paused in the dining room where Melissa was sitting at the table. He let out a breath, wondering what exactly they'd told Melissa and Chris before hopping on a plane to fly to Rochester to retrieve him. He rubbed the back of his neck.
He had a feeling he was about to find out.
