Who: Nico di Angelo & River Song
What: Newbie searching for breakfast.
When: Early morning, March 29
Where: A small park somewhere in Lawrence.
Warnings: None for now.
When Nico had gone to sleep last night, it had been in the modest-but-comfortable solitary bunk in the Hades cabin at Camp Halfblood. The cabin was almost a year old now, same as all the other cabins built for the lesser gods after the war last summer. But unlike those, this cabin was in its original pristine condition, given that it only had one camper who ever used it -- and Nico could barely remember the last time he'd spent more than a few hours at camp. When he came, it was to talk to Annabeth, update her and other head counsellors on any Underworld matters that might concern them; they occasionally convinced him to stay for dinner, but he still didn't feel comfortable socialising with the other demigods and usually slipped back underground before the others had finished their own meals.
Last night, though, he'd arrived later than usual after a day of questing, and had been too tired after meeting with Annabeth and the others to even think about having to interact with his stepmom Persephone. He'd get grumpy, she'd turn him into a dandelion again ... it would've been bad for all concerned. Plus, given the insanity downstairs -- well, maybe this would be his last chance to spend a night aboveground. So he'd retreated to his empty cabin and, once in bed, had stared up at the dark ceiling while thinking about the quest ahead of him. Finding the Doors of Death wasn't going to be easy, even if Percy, Frank and Hazel did manage to free Thanatos -- the god of death would be a little too busy playing border patrol to help the young demigod, after all.
Hazel... Nico chewed on his lip. Thanatos might insist on taking her back to the Underworld, and Nico would lose another sister. When he'd seen Percy at Camp Jupiter, he'd started to hope that maybe the two demigod camps would reconcile -- that maybe he could bring Hazel to visit Camp Halfblood, that he would have someone to share the Hades cabin with. It was probably stupid for him to hope for anything good in the first place. With a sigh that became a yawn, he'd rolled over and gone to sleep. His dreams had been no respite from dismal thoughts, though.
When he woke up, he immediately noticed he wasn't at Camp Halfblood anymore. Mostly because he wasn't on a bed anymore: he'd woken up on a park bench, which had certainly happened before, except that those times, he always remembered going to sleep on it. Nico frowned and opened his eyes before sitting up, slowly. It was morning, fairly early, he thought. He'd slept in his clothes, a habit he was suddenly thankful for, and as he looked around he realised his jacket was tucked in between him and the back of the bench, his sword wrapped up in it just like he'd left them last night. Good -- it would be unfortunate to be without a weapon if he was stranded in a new place. This wasn't New York, after all; he wasn't sure it was anywhere on the East Coast (and it certainly wasn't on the West). Had he shadow-travelled? He brushed his hair back from his face with one hand. No, he would've remembered that. Perhaps a god had brought him here for some reason -- but he suspected they were all far too busy to bother with one little demigod, even his father (especially his father).
He yawned, and his stomach rumbled. Oh. He smiled ruefully down at the ground. Well, if he wasn't at camp, he wasn't going to get a camp breakfast, so he'd have to find somewhere else to get coffee and a pastry before he'd be capable of shadow travel. He stood up, grabbed his things, and shrugged on his jacket before attaching his sword to his belt. He ran his hand over the hilt, manipulating the Mist a little so that mortals would just see a cellphone or flashlight or something else appropriate. It was hard to focus pre-caffeine, though. Hmm. Hopefully he just wouldn't run into many people this early in the morning. Especially since he also didn't have shoes, which he realised when he stood on a stone on his way to the street.
He swore in Greek and glared at the ground, which shuddered slightly in response. "...oops," he muttered, and sighed. "Don't worry about it," he said, scuffing the sidewalk affectionately with a sock. "My fault. I am not a morning person."
He looked up again and continued towards the street, fishing in his pockets for cash. Did he even have any American dollars? He was gonna have trouble paying for coffee with drachmas if not...
