WHO: Melinda and Sam
WHAT: Mel's arrival to Lawrence.
WHEN: 2/25 Friday morning!
WHERE: Lawrence....we'll see!
RATING: PG-13? Mebe!

Melinda had had a bit of a hard night. She'd gone out drinking with some friends. It'd been a while since she'd gone out and got black out, dog ass drunk. She'd done it last night, though. It was okay to do it every so often, or at least that was what she told herself about it. She could only imagine what Chris, or even Wyatt, might say to her. 'Melinda, you could have done something stupid,' or ,'Melinda you need to be more careful,' or even still, 'Melinda what if a demon had shown up!' Sure, maybe she was exaggerating a little bit, but still! She definitely would have heard quite a bit from either brother, even her parents. She could only imagine the look of her father as he talked about how worried he was and blah blah blah. It was too early to be thinking about her family right now. She didn't need to be thinking about them, it'd only take the headache she had from her hangover and make it even worse! Her family always seemed to give her headaches. It was probably worse now that she wasn't talking to any of them, though. At least when she talked to them she knew that they were safe, but she wasn't willing to back down on this just yet. She regretted being so stupid, but couldn't admit that she was wrong and stupid just yet.

Groaning, Mel curled up tighter in her bed. She had the day off today and it was pretty tempting to stay in bell all damn day, but it wasn't really an option. She had things to do today; grocery shopping was at the top of the list. She'd promised her friends that she'd make a damn good home cooked meal really soon. She'd get that done definitely, but it'd probably be the only thing. She had a list, but lists generally didn't do her any good. The thought made her give a half smile before she finally started to wake up a bit more. There was a dull sort of pain in her head. That definitely had to do with the hangover. She had an awful taste in her mouth too, along with being dry. The case of cottonmouth was another tell-tale sign of her hangover. She'd need to brush her teeth really good and then down a couple jugs of water. That'd take care of the dry mouth and the headache probably.

With her plan having sort of haphazardly formed in her head, Melinda finally sat up and opened her eyes, lifting her hand to push her hair back, but what she saw was definitely not her bedroom. Where the fuck was she? She couldn't orb, so she knew there was no way in hell that she had brought herself here! She wasn't talking to her brothers at the moment and they would never play this sort of joke, would they? Well, maybe Wyatt might be tempted to, but no way he would have done this, especially not with it this cold. Shivering, Melinda jumped up, the t-shirt and shorts she had worn to bed not quite doing the job with the whole keeping her warm thing just right now. Melinda's brown eyes scanned the area. She was in someone's front yard and it definitely wasn't home. she could see a damn field! "What the hell?" She said to herself, looking around in confusion. Waking up in a strange new place with a freaking hangover was not cool. She was more than a little pissed off at the moment. "You've got to be kidding me." Her mind wasn't as sharp as it could be considering the ache it had going on. Lifting her hands to her face, the brunette rubbed none-too-gently for a few moments before opening her eyes back up. Yup, still a field.

Unluckily for her it was that moment that the owner of the house chose to come out. The sound of his screen door shrieking open and slamming back closed was enough to make the young woman wince in pain. It took her a second before she could look at the guy. He was an older man, carrying a rifle, and he looked pretty angry. That got her attention real quick. "Get off my property!" He yelled and Melinda's eyes went wide as he seemed to be readying to aim that rifle of his. "I'm going! Jesus!" She said as she automatically jumped into doing just that. There was no way she was sticking around to get shot by some senile guy that probably never would have been allowed to pick up a gun in the first place. She didn't stop until she knew that she'd covered a good distance; she didn't walk until she'd gotten about five blocks away. It was then that she finally decided that her whole...not apologizing for being dumb thing could go to hell. "I freaking give up! Wyatt! Chris! D-," She caught herself before she said Dad, realizing that it wouldn't do anything--he wouldn't hear her, but she was expecting to see those familiar blue orbs any moment. There weren't any orbs, though. Of course! When she needed them and was ready to give in those bastards didn't show up! Neither of them! It almost brought tears to her eyes, but Mel fought that back and moved to keep walking. Where? She had not a damn clue.

What were her options? Mel wasn't the best at writing spells--it probably wouldn't work anyway! She couldn't just orb around like her brothers, so that took that out. She didn't have any way of magical transport like they did. She was pretty much stuck here. It was frustrating. With frustration, though, Melinda knew blowing shit up could come. She didn't want to do that. It drew too much attention. So, the small witch brought her hands up and crossed them across her chest hoping to avoid that. Movement helped keep her warm to a certain extent, but after she'd covered a bit of distance she started to feel it. Without even thinking it through, Melinda picked the first place she noticed and sat on the front steps. If someone came out of this place with a gun...well, she just hoped that didn't happen. Resting her elbows on her knees, Melinda looked out into the distance. What the hell was she going to do?

Sam was juggling between searching for potential home offers (he and Ruby had both agreed that they needed to find a house, rather than the apartment across town from the complex that they'd occupied for months) and, as promised, keeping an eye out for Leela (which he had very little luck on). The house prices were steeper than what either Sam or Ruby could afford on a hunter's budget (as in, barely any money at all outside of what they had left from their honeymoon funds), but Ruby seemed determined to find something nice. There were people here in Lawrence who could help them with their financial struggles - like Hardison (unfortunately), who seemed able to fill up bank accounts at his very whim by way of hacking - but Sam didn't want to bother anyone unless they actually found something that they wanted. Once they actually owned a property that was their own, Sam figured he could pull a Bobby by way of making it more hunter friendly. He already planned on carving Devil's Traps into the floors under the carpets, and he was entirely invested in going out of his way to plant a room for all of his hunting gear and research. Practical stuff. Ruby could worry about the relaxing, nice stuff that people tended to fixate on when they settled into a home. So long as they had walls around them, a roof over their heads, and a way to keep the house safe and secure, Sam knew that he'd be good. He had lived out of motel rooms and abandoned houses his entire life - certain living situations just didn't phase him the way that they did with other people. He figured that the apartment was comfortable enough and everything, yet with Lucifer on their tails, they definitely needed something more safe and secure. Ruby seemed to want a house rather than a new apartment or a temporary motel room though and, because she was his wife (which meant that, as far as their living situation was concerned, she was very much in charge), Sam was doing his best to look for a suitable home.

Speaking of Ruby.

Peering up from the bundle of home advertisements he'd been reading as he wandered, Sam looked up to find Ruby sitting on a set of steps across the street from where he stood. It was a random thing, to find her there like that, but Sam figured that she'd somehow caught wind of the areas he was hitting up and had made with the stalking. It wouldn't have been the first time that she had - Ruby had been literally stalking him for years - and given his recent situation with Lucifer invading his head, Sam assumed that she was probably trying to check up on him or something. It didn't make any sense that she'd park herself across the street with such an irritated look on her face, though. Frowning, Sam folded the paper he'd been reading over and crossed the street. Once he'd reached the place where Ruby was sitting, Sam flopped down beside her and tried for a playful grin.

"What's a pretty lady like you doing out here all by herself?" Hopefully if he went about all of this the right way, he'd get her to crack a smile and fess up on what was on her mind. Seeing her upset bothered him. It never failed to.

Melinda didn't have a clue what she was going to do. She was stuck in some...random place that she'd never seen before in her life without any form of ID or anything. Her brothers hadn't even bothered to answer her call. It was almost tempting to scream at her brothers some more. It wouldn't help, she was sure. Maybe they had decided that they were going to ignore her now after how long she'd been ignoring them. It didn't make sense, they always wanted her around so much. They had been upset that she had been avoiding them! Why weren't they answering? What if something was wrong? Her mind couldn't settle down now. She couldn't stop worrying and that kind of pissed her off. How dare they get upset with her for avoiding and staying away from them and then doing the same to her. That was just wrong!

The porch steps were cold against her bottom, but she couldn't make herself move at the moment. In order to move she had to figure out what to do. Figuring out what to do was going to take a while; as far as Mel was concerned she wasn't going to be moving for a while. Melinda wasn't sure how long she had been sitting there. At some point she had just spaced off. It might have had something to do with the hangover that she had to deal with. Her head hurt and she couldn't seem to make her body move. Eventually she'd figure...something out, it would just take her longer than it ever would have taken Chris or Wyatt. Melinda always felt like she was at the back end of the bunch, she didn't measure up to her brothers. That was never fun to think about though.

Bringing a hand up to rub her face, Melinda wasn't really all that aware of anyone around her, or even the look on her face until some...tall guy was coming her way. Melinda couldn't help but look at the guy because he was a freaking giant! She hadn't a clue as to why he was heading her way, though. Part of her was afraid he might be dangerous, which was exactly why she moved so that she sat up straighter and her hands were resting lightly on her legs, ready to move. The guy...plopped down next to her, though. What the hell? The young Halliwell managed to give him a small, albeit confused smile.

"Um....thinking, I guess?" Melinda stated a bit confused. She didn't know who this guy was. She definitely wasn't going to trust him with a full disclosure of what was going on! "What are you doing?" Melinda asked, lifting an eyebrow, but that light smile still in place.

Thinking. It was an awfully convenient place for her to be thinking, wasn't it? There were a lot of other places to do all that contemplating at. Like their apartment. The Roadhouse. The complex. Anywhere but on the path that he had been walking, really. Not that Sam minded - he was actually all for Ruby being with him right now, since he really didn't have any idea what he was doing by way of house hunting - but it was unusual. Maybe she had left to meet him, but ended up getting distracted somehow? That was all Sam could come up with that came close to fitting a logical conclusion. Shrugging it off, Sam flashed Ruby another bright grin and leaned to the side a little, as if her question were completely unnecessary. "What am I doing?" He elbowed her playfully. "What do you think I'm doing? I'm hitting on you. What's a guy gotta do to get your phone number?"

Whatever it was that she had been thinking about didn't seem too pleasant. Sam would press her for details later, but first and foremost, he wanted to see her smile. The upset probably had something to do with Lucifer's most recent threat, but Sam didn't want Ruby to worry about it. Not beyond figuring out what they were going to do by way of their living situation. It was logical to worry about the apocalypse and all that came with it - Sam reminded her that they needed to be careful all the time, just as he went about researching every single day for anything worth using against the Devil - but they had just gotten married. Sam was still half terrified that Ruby was gonna up and walk the first chance she got if things got bad with Lucifer knocking at their door and, honestly, he wouldn't blame her if she did. He had even told her as much the other day. That didn't mean that he wanted her to leave and it sure as hell didn't mean that Sam wasn't gonna give it his all at giving Ruby reasons not to. Like this. Cheering her up. Showing her that he still cared. That they could still smile, even if it was just for a few minutes.

Melinda wasn't sure how she had this...giant of a guy hitting on her. She was pretty sure that she hadn't even been here all that long yet. This had to be a sign that there was something wrong with him. Guys that liked Melinda...they were pretty much never good guys, honestly. She had the issue of choosing the worst guys possible. The last guy that she'd been crazy about had turned out to be a freaking demon! Her brother shad told her about it too and she'd just...refused to listen to them. She really wished that she had, it would have saved a lot of fights on her part.

Not only was this guy a giant, but he was also really smiley. He kept smiling at her. She wasn't quite sure what to think of him, honestly. Melinda couldn't help but smile a bit as he elbowed her. Wow. "You're really forward." Melinda said with a bit of a snicker before she tilted her head. "What if I don't have a phone number?" It came out somewhat jokingly, but Mel was serious. What was wrong with her? She was flirting back? This would probably not end well.

She should really be focusing on getting back home. This smiley giant was a distraction. Not only was he a distraction, but he was probably a distraction that was bad for her....

"What can I say? I know what I want. And when I want it, I go for it." Sam felt a twinge of relief tickle his insides when he noted the slight smile cross over Ruby's features. It wasn't like her usual smirk or that soft look she got on her face when the two of them were doing intimate stuff, like laying in bed together, but it was still a smile. "Waiting around is only gonna give some other completely random guy off the street a shot at you and we really can't have that now, can we?" No phone number. Hard to get seemed to be the name of the game, but Sam was entirely prepared for that. "I'll settle for an address. I'll write to you. Poetry, letters of my deepest affection -" Sam swept a hand out, as if he were headlining something important. "- essays on how much I completely adore you. The whole nine yards. And to top things off?" Sam raised his brows at Ruby convincingly. "Each letter will be delivered by specialized carrier pigeons that I, in the interest of wooing you, will have personally trained myself. It'll be very impressive."

As if that weren't dramatic enough, Sam continued on with, "It wouldn't end there either. Once you got the first couple letters from me, I'd show up outside your window with the worlds tiniest violin - and player - and he and I will serenade you with a song written by myself. Honestly, it'd be beautiful. Every little detail I'd put into getting your attention would be one hundred percent guaranteed to make you take an interest in me. Really, you'd be better off just giving me your number, because then you might actually stand a chance against my charm and determination." Every single bit of what Sam was saying would have made him sound like a crazy person to a stranger (which he was currently facing, against his own knowledge, so he'd be very much regretting this entire conversation later), but he didn't seem to care. Ruby knew him. She knew how lame and geeky he could get sometimes. None of this would surprise her.

Now, Melinda had met some pretty forward guys over time. She had met some jerks, the overly sensitive guys, and probably everything in between. This was something new to her, though. She had no idea how this guy could manage to be so confident. She was torn between finding this really weird and admiring how he had complete confidence in what he was doing. He seemed so sure that there was no way she'd turn him down at all. This was just weird, she couldn't be certain whether or not something fishy was going on. "You're really forward. Have you ever been told that?" Melinda stated, tilting her head. Lifting an eyebrow curiously, Melinda couldn't help the snort that escaped. "Of course not?" Melinda asked, not quite certain about that. This guy was a little weird. "Well, what if I don't have an address, what if I'm not from here?" Melinda asked, raising her own brow at him, thinking that this guy had to be some sort of...stalker. Most of her wanted to get the hell out of here at this point. He was starting to get a little creepy.

It seemed he wasn't happy with average sort of crazy, though. He was taking it even further? Wow this guy didn't really know the first thing about hitting on someone. He was creeping her out more than he was enticing her at all. His game had started out okay, but at this point...he was getting a little weird. "You're laying it on a little thick there aren't you? The goal is to win me over not to make me want to get a restraining order on you?" Melinda stated, honestly. What was the point in continuing to sugar coat it...he was getting too weird for her at this point.

To add a bit to that, Melinda scooted away from him a little bit, looking at him. "I mean, I don't even know your name."

By this point, Sam had reached three very different conclusions based on Ruby's behavior: she was either really into this whole random stranger hits on random stranger off the street shtick, there was something incredibly wrong with her memory, or she was pissed off at him for some reason or another and, instead of elaborating on the why (because - why?), she was giving him the cold shoulder on a whole new level. Sam didn't think that the memory loss was likely (how could she have forgotten her own husband?) and he honestly couldn't remember having done anything recently to piss her off. That left the game that he had engaged her with and, considering how well Sam knew her, he was more than able to comprehend that it wouldn't have been completely out of the question for Ruby to keep on with the role playing. Any other chick, Sam probably would have reconsidered, but not Ruby. She had practically written the book on mind games and Sam would be damned if she didn't love playing them on him more than anyone else. With that in mind, Sam concluded that Ruby's memories were very much intact and that (hopefully) she wasn't furious with him. In fact, there probably weren't any problems, in spite of the awkward behavior that Ruby was putting on now. It was just all part of the act. Nodding slowly, as if to declare that he understood that she was really the one who was laying it on thick, Sam scooted right on into the space that Ruby had just slid out of, completely defeating the purpose of her having moved in the first place in the process. They were sitting side-by-side all over again, this time even more closely than before. Pfft, personal space. Who needed personal space?

"Then let's start over." Sam extended a large hand in her direction, putting on a purely genuine face. "I'm Sam." Which she knew. "And you are?" Which he also knew, but for the sake of keeping their little tirade going, he'd play it naive.

Melinda was having an issue with this guy at the moment. He couldn't seriously think that the way he was hitting on her was going to make her interested in him at all? If he didn't realize he was coming off as more than a little weird there was a reason to worry. She wasn't getting through to him thus far, or at least she didn't think she was getting through to him thus far. He'd laid that special brand of charm that he was sporting on pretty thick. Melinda was used to some pretty weird shit, but this wasn't the usual level of weird. This wasn't demons or things attacking along with magic. This was a weird guy that was hitting on her, so it was a whole different brand of wonky. She didn't even know if he was a human, so she couldn't treat him any different, really.

She did know one thing. If he got way too weird it wouldn't be a problem for her to just get up and walk away. Surely he wouldn't follow and if he did...it'd only be too easy to freeze him to get away. Not that that was the most mature course of action. If she had to it'd happen, though. Not that she was preparing for it. Nope, she wasn't getting ready to do that. Though, if he scooted any closer to her he was probably going to squish the hell out of her.

She took the hand he offered and shook lightly. "Melinda." She told him honestly before tacking on, "And you know if you scoot any closer you're probably going to crush me, right? Personal space, you know?"

"Melinda?" A brow immediately arched upward. Were they not doing real names? And what was with the look on Ruby's face? She was either really being put off by this whole game or was very much on the verge of getting nominated for this year's best acting performance. Sam was beginning to dislike the amount of uncertainty he was getting out of this game. Usually, he knew that they were playing around. The air felt lighter and everything was fun. This seemed...well, awkward. And he and Ruby really didn't do awkward. "You don't really look like a Melinda to me. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you felt more like a Ruby."

This was usually about when Ruby would start smirking and joking along in her own subtle, Ruby-like way. Instead, Sam got comments about how he was invading her personal space and on the verge of squashing her to death. "I couldn't crush you," he pointed out, breaking character. "You're like, what, three times stronger than me? C'mon." He was still sort of joking around, but the uncertain smile on his face was enough indication that he felt like something was wrong. Expression softening a little, Sam tilted his head to the side and cast Ruby a concerned look. "Are you mad at me? What's going on?"

It was only then that he noticed that there was something missing. Her ring. The one that Ruby had been so proud to wear on her finger after their wedding - the ring that Sam had given her when he had promised to love her for the rest of his life. "Ruby..." Sam leaned back a little, that concerned look of his doubling twice over. "Where's your ring?" Maybe she was mad. Really mad.

"Yeah, Melinda." The Halliwell repeated herself, lifting an eyebrow. The dude couldn't be hard of hearing because he had heard her just fine before. She had no clue that he thought she was someone else and was playing a game. Honestly she just thought that he was weird. Sometimes people were just weird. Of course, a lot of the weird Mel had run into had been more on the magical side of things. This was super awkward, though. Blinking in confusion, Mel couldn't help but look at Sam like he was crazy. "I don't look like a Melinda? Well, you should definitely let my parents know they gave me the wrong name, but...it's worked just fine for 23 years." Seriously....Ruby? What the hell was wrong with him?

If he didn't give her some space, Melinda was going to get up to get some of the much needed space. As soon as he spoke, Melinda snorted. "Um....Sam was it? Your size begs to differ." Melinda told him only to have him give her a concerned look, but the affect it had on Mel was to only make her think he was even more strange. "I'm not mad at you, you're just creeping me out, dude. I don't even know you." And with that Melinda managed to stand up before she turned to look at the guy. This was just weird and standing up made Mel feel a little more in control. "Why don't you tell me what's going on?"

Then he was calling her that name. "I just told you my name is Melinda." She took a step back from him and then made a face at him. "And I don't know what ring you're talking about. You're really starting to get weird. I think you should leave me alone now." Yeah, she was done with this. If he didn't listen then she'd take off without him.
