Who: Stephanie Brown and Ron Weasley
What: Ron decided to randomly go visit her.
When: Evening, December 10th.
Where: Bobby's place.
Warnings: Uh. Probably none. Will change if I need to.

Stephanie Brown (not Weasley, thanks) had never been to South Dakota before. Or North Dakota, for that matter. Really, she never had any interest or reason to go to either of the states. But now the boot camp was there, and Stephanie wanted to know as much about the demons and everything in this world as she could find out. Or, well, she wanted to know that stuff, but lets be honest here. She hadn't really done all that much researching into it for herself.

She'd been there less than a day so far, having arrived late the night before. The gun stuff wasn't so bad. Stephanie preferred other modes of combat, but when it came down to it she knew that she'd use a gun if it was her only choice, emphasis on only. But after a long day of that sort of thing she had bundled up in her heavy coat and decided to make herself a tasty sandwich (bologna and cheese, cut into fourths) and head out back to sit and eat. It didn't matter to her that it was the dead of winter in South Dakota. Growing up in Gotham had her used to the cold, so she'd take whatever small reminders of her city that she could get.

Besides, she didn't really know any of the other people there all that well. Stephanie knew them just well enough to trust that they weren't going to accidentally shoot her, or turn her into the demons, but that was about it. Eating away from the people she didn't really know sounded good. Especially since she had so much on her mind.

Perhaps it had been the daftest idea of them all, but Ron had decided to try giving visiting Steph a try. Not because he wanted to drop in and shag her while she was off training to do whatever, but because he thought that she might be keen on his company. Maybe. Possibly. Ron supposed that all mostly depended on whether or not she was furious with him for the entire incident from the boards a few nights ago. In his defense? He had just been messing around. It wasn't as though he had set out to offend anyone or make Steph look bad or anything. But then the whiney little boy had to come along and make a scene, so things sort of exploded from there. Now Ron was pretty sure that Steph was at least irritated at him. That, of course, didn't stop him from deciding to come out and visit when the idea randomly struck him. It wasn't as big of a deal for him as it would have been for others. Other people would have had to drive for hours before they could properly get to where Steph was staying right now. Ron, on the other hand, was a proper wizard. That meant that he could apparate, even if he was rather poor at popping from one place to the other. It was a good day if he didn't splinch himself while doing so.

...today, so far, was turning out to be a good day. Ron landed himself in the salvage yard, rather pleased that he hadn't lose a finger or inch of skin or anything of value in the process of apparating over. That was an accomplishment if he ever saw one. Now all he had to do was successfully pay Steph a visit without ticking her off. Why was he visiting a Steph that was probably furious with him in the first place? Ron wasn't exactly sure. All he knew was that it was weird that she wasn't in the same city as him anymore, so he had to come and make sure that...that, well, she was fully intact. Or something. He'd have to make up an excuse of sorts when he found her. Until then, the truth was that he had sort of missed seeing her.

That wasn't what he'd tell her though.

Ron knew the area a little since he had already done his fair share of training, so he followed the path up to the house and moved inside to search for Steph. He found her in the kitchen. Eating. Food. Smirking just slightly, he moved around the kitchen table and tried to play everything casually. Ron walked right on over to the fridge, pulled it open, then looked over at Steph as though he were completely shocked to see her there.

"Oh. Hello."

Stephanie looked up when Ron walked into the kitchen, brow perked as she watched him. She really hadn't been expecting him to show up since he wasn't one of the ones signed on for the camp for the week. For all she knew he could have already done the camp, from what she understood it had been going for a while before she even showed up in Lawrence. And then he was acting surprised to see her, even though she made that post saying she would be up there? Yeah. Right. Stephanie may not be Batman, but she was good at figuring stuff out based on the facts. "Hey," she started simply once she swallowed a bite of her delicious, yet simple, sandwich. "What are you doing up here?"

To her, it was a good question. And since the last time the two had spoken she'd been pretty pissed at him. She was still kinda ticked, but the fact that he had been talking about her was really the last thing on her mind at that point. There were other, more important things. Like the fact that they were married even though they had hardly ever spent any time around each other when they had their own memories in their heads.

Sure, Stephanie had still been basically the same person when she had fake memories, if just a little bit more impulsive than usual. Or, she told herself that the girl that randomly got married was more impulsive than she normally was, at least. The jury was still out on whether that was the case or not. And she read the Harry Potter books more than once, so she was able to tell that Ron seemed pretty much the same, but that wasn't the point. The point was simply that they hardly knew each other and yet they were married. And that was weird.

But hey, her question could have come out kinda rude or something, so she felt the need to add to it. "I mean, not that it's not neat you're here. But I didn't think you'd be up here this week."

It was expected that she would have asked that question, though Ron personally wasn't actually prepared to answer. He didn't have a logical explanation. He'd already gone training, he wasn't on the list for this week, and he had no excuse to come around and visit the trucker hat bearing fellow who lived here to begin with. Ron barely stifled a wince, prior to ducking his head into the refrigerator. "What does it look like I'm doing? I'm hungry. Wanted food. Now I'm lookin' for food in this here fridge. Is that a problem?" He didn't mean to come off sounding so defensive, but that was the truth of it. He was being defensive because, quite honestly, Ron had nothing else to really say on the matter. "What'd you put on that sandwich?" He poked his head past the fridge door slightly. His eyes were there, but the rest of his face was carefully hidden by the presence of the door.

He was asking her what she had put on her sandwich. In a place that was hundreds upon hundreds of miles away from where he was supposed to be. What was Ron doing with himself, exactly? Why had he thought that coming out here would be a good idea in the first place? Merlin, he was coming off as a complete and total lunatic, wasn't he? It didn't help that she was still that Pretty Girl. Pretty Girl was still pretty, although Ron felt more than certain that this time around if they'd have started over on the whole meeting each other thing he'd have been far less likely to jump aboard the ship of madness and marry her straight off.

"...it's not corned beef, is it?" Ron added weakly, shoulders falling awkwardly.

Stephanie couldn't help it. She blinked at his answer for a moment before giving in to a small bout of laughter. Because there was no way Ron had really come up there just for food. She knew that it took a lot less time for him to get there than it did for her thanks to being a wizard and all, and this was Ron, someone who did adore his food, but really. Going all the way to South Dakota to raid a fridge when he lived in a building with tons of fridges full of food? Unlikely. "Oh, that's right," she started, smirking at him a bit. "There's a big food shortage down in Lawrence. All the food in the city has been eaten and none of the stores have gotten any new shipments. I saw that on the news earlier." Stephanie was teasing him, of course. It was just in her nature to be sarcastic about things. "And no, it's corned beef. You wouldn't catch me eating corned beef. It's bologna and cheese."

Really, it was a good thing that Ron hadn't decided to visit her a couple days earlier, when she was still at her apartment. The one that was hers, because they weren't exactly living together at the moment, which was probably for the best, big time. But if he had tried to visit her the night that he'd made that stupid post that Stephanie didn't know the exact wording of but got the gist of? Yeah, he probably would have been thrown out on his ass. As it was, she had cooled down a lot since then. She didn't really feel the need to punch him or anything, which was good. "How's your face?" she asked simply once she remembered that he had gotten slugged already. "I'm assuming Tim went for the face when he jumped you."

Ron shrugged sheepishly at that. "Yeah. Right. Food shortage and all that. You know how it can get out there in Kansas. It's all rubbish, really." That was all that he had. The fact that Steph had laughed at him in retaliation to his statement left him feeling flustered and moronic at best, but Ron didn't point that out. Instead, he buried his head in the fridge once more for a brief moment before he stepped back and nudged the door shut with a hand. Oddly, Ron couldn't figure out what he wanted to eat. Or even if he wanted to eat at all. Maybe. No. Yes? Of course, yes. But he didn't have to eat. Not quite this second, anyhow. He would though. Ron always did. There were too many knots in his stomach right now for him to focus on eating anything. Maybe it was because of the embarrassment. Ron really did feel like a git for coming out here, after all.

"My face is brilliant, thanks," Ron replied, wincing inwardly at the thought. That stupid Tim boy breaking into his flat without warning, attacking him over a bloody post he'd made. Ron was still set on believing that Tim was like an overgrown child who needed some serious mothering because he couldn't get on in life without someone to whine at, but that was just his opinion. Which, he supposed, was valid considering the fact that the brat couldn't handle a bloke messing around a bit over the internet. Ron leaned back against the fridge and folded his arms over his chest. "So, er...how's the training been? Not that I came here to ask you that. I was wondering is all. And I'm thinking about what I'm going to eat - 'cause, yeah, that's what I'm here for. It'll just take a second for me to figure out so..." So, obviously, Ron needed to stop talking. He cleared his throat and looked the other way. "The weather is nice."

By that point, Stephanie suspected that he'd come to check up on her. But hey, at least she had enough sense to know better than to flat out ask him if he had. After all, he seemed embarrassed enough when she'd laughed some at his I came for food explanation. So instead of saying anything about maybe he just came to see her she gave him a warm smile. Because, really? That was kinda sweet if it was the case. "That's good," she said, nodding a bit. "It looks fine from here so I guess I don't have to kick Tim's ass as soon as I get back to Lawrence." Really, Stephanie had no idea what was up with that kid lately. Sure, she was pretending like she didn't notice something weird about him, but she could have sworn he wasn't so freaking emo last time she saw him at that age. But whatever. He wasn't her problem any more. And in all honesty? Stephanie was glad to pass him on to Dawn.

"You can have some of my sandwich if you want," she added with a shrug before picking up her can of Coke to take a sip. It wouldn't be that hard to share part of it, she'd cut into four triangles, after all. "Training's going good. It's just three of us up here, me, Buffy, and some weird old guy that I'm pretty sure is a robot or something if you open him up. But he's pretty easy to ignore so that's a non-issue."

The warm smile was unexpected. Ron knew what women were like when they were upset. They glared, they huffed, and they declared war on him by giving him the silent treatment until he either apologized (never!) or they got tired of ignoring him. Arguing with Hermione all the time had seen to upping his level of understanding toward women when they were furious with men. He knew what they wanted. Apologies, flowers, poems written on scrap bits of parchment about how they were nothing without that superior woman-like figure in their lives. Basically, they wanted a bunch of pansy nonsense that Ron wanted nothing to do with. But this was different. Steph was smiling at him and, in doing so, she managed to completely throw Ron off guard without even intending to do so. "Ah...yeah. Yeah, that's good." Ron smiled a bit, then looked away. "And you don't really need to bother him about it. I handled the situation." He grinned a little more. "You should've seen his face when he realized that I gave him those rabbit ears." It was a good thing that Ron had managed rabbit ears too. Quite honestly, he had been more far more likely to make Tim's head explode than properly execute the transfiguration of any part of his body. Ron just wasn't all that great at Transfiguration back in school, see? So having done so had been a pretty huge risk, though Ron wouldn't exactly admit that to anyone. Though if Tim's head had exploded, Ron was pretty sure that it would have been well deserved. It wasn't his fault that the Muggle boy was insane.

"Yeah?" Ron perked up a bit more at the sight of her sandwich. Stealing some of her food was a lot more appealing than having to bother with making something for himself. "That's a small group compared to the lot that I came out here with. Where's everyone else?" Ron didn't mind that he had come up here with a bigger group. Personally, he was relieved that he had. It made being able to goof off and be lazy a lot easier when there were so many people for that Bobby guy and those Winchesters to focus on.

"Bunny ears? Really?" Oh god, Stephanie hadn't heard about that. And she couldn't help laughing again at the mention. Seriously, the thought of Tim with bunny ears? Priceless! "Oh man, I so wish I could have seen that! Does he still have them?" That was an important question, after all. Because Stephanie would love it if he still had them when she got back. A sight like that would absolutely make everything else she'd been through since she got there completely worth it. And see? Sometimes even Batgirl could act like a normal nineteen year old American girl, including laughing when the ex goes and does something stupid that gets himself in trouble. "I really hope there's pictures somewhere." She knew she could probably ask Babs for the security tapes from around that time, if he went out into the halls she'd see it, but it was doubtful that Babs would show her. Ever since Steph showed up there Babs seriously seemed to favor Tim more than her.

Once her laughter faded away she picked up one of the triangles and held it out towards him, shrugging when he asked about the group. "I think a couple of the people disappeared or something. I guess they got to go home." She liked the smaller group though. Especially since Buffy was also used to the combat and everything. Made things go a lot easier. Plus? The days were over faster.

Ron grinned brightly when she started to laugh. He was actually relieved that she was taking the news of her ex-boyfriend being hexed by him so well. Normally, in this situation in particular, Ron would have been faced with a very offended and concerned (the concern, unfortunately, wouldn't have been for him) party. "It was brilliant, yeah," Ron said, shaking his head in amusement, "doubt he'll be coming 'round me anytime soon for fear of being turned into a whole rabbit next time." Not that Ron could pull something like that off. He could barely manage the ears. Ron sincerely doubted that Tim would be transfigured into a real life bunny rabbit anytime in this lifetime. At least, not by himself personally. "And, er, I dunno, actually. I reckon he might have gone off and whined about it to Gin a bit. Which would explain why she was so furious with me." Ron was actually pretty sure that was what had happened. Tim whined to Ginny about the bunny ears and his insulting ways, then Ginny probably repaired Tim's ears and came raging at Ron. "I'm sure she's put him back properly by now and all. No pictures on me though, sorry. I haven't got a camera." But a picture would have been fantastic. He could have posted it all over the internet or something. Of course, that would have been a bit mean. But what would Fred and George have done? Now that was the real question, wasn't it?

"That was lucky for them," Ron said, taking the sandwich corner from her in appreciation. "Thanks for this," he said, lifting it in a slight salute her way before taking a bite. With a mouthful of sandwich, he then continued to say, "D'you thinkht theyf guna hrome er wherf they abductinf?" Which was sandwich speak for: "Do you think they've gone home or where they abducted?"

Thanks to the fact that Stephanie had, in fact, read Ron's books and seen his movies more than once, she kinda doubted that Tim would have ended up as a full on rabbit. But still, the idea of it was great. "I bet he's glad that you're not the only witch or wizard around here then. Otherwise, I have a feeling he would have been stuck with those ears for a while. Which is a shame, cause I really do wish I could have seen them." Grinning, she leaned back in her chair, pushing at it so it was balancing on just two legs as she sat there. Man, the idea of Tim with bunny ears put her in a great mood. "Maybe you should invest in a camera or something so that you can take pictures when stuff like that happens. Even though it's 'muggle' technology and all, it's still pretty handy." Stephanie even tended to keep one in her utility belt, plus the one that was built into her phone. But the belt one was only handy when she was either paroling or had enough time to run get it.

"It's no problem," she said simply to his thanks, then perked a brow at him. "I have no idea what you just said." Mastering the skill of understanding someone talking with a mouth full of food was something that she had never quite gotten around to. She was an only child and it had been just her and her mom for several years, so there really wasn't that much of a reason for her to have learned it in the first place. Really, Stephanie probably learn how to do that at some point though, considering she subjected so many other people to her doing the same thing at times.

"I don't have any idea on how to reverse what I did, so yeah, I'd say he's a real lucky one considering." Ron didn't think that he would ever know enough about Transfiguration to properly do anything worthwhile with the spells that McGonagall had drilled into her students. Or, rather, had attempted to drill into her students. Ron was fairly certain that Hermione was probably the only one among their class who actually paid attention enough to process half of what the woman had taught them. "Cameras aren't entirely Muggle, y'know. We do have cameras in the wizarding world. How do you think we get the pictures for the paper?" Ron didn't know anything about the sorts of cameras that they had here though. Not those electric ones, anyway. He had seen some of them in a shop once. They looked odd and confusing. Why did a camera need so many buttons? Wasn't it just one to take the picture? These Muggles, in general, seemed to enjoy their buttons. He had noticed that about a lot of their technology. It was all confusing most of the time, but he had gotten the hang of a lot of the more simple things. Light switches, kitchen devices, the computer. Quite frankly, Ron was sort of proud of himself.

Ron took another bite from his sandwich, then chewed with a roll of his eyes. Once he swallowed the food down, he said, "D'you think that they've gone home or were abducted or something? Who says that our lot actually get back home when they go missing? Isn't that madwoman...er, mad thing trying to get her hands on us?" It made sense to him. If they were being picked off one by one, who would know any better if they were all running about assuming that people were being dragged home or whatever?

Stephanie took a turn rolling her eyes at Ron then. "Yeah, I know you guys have cameras. But they're not like the ones you can get here. Our pictures don't move unless you take a video, and we totally don't even need magic to print them out or anything." Hell, they didn't even really need actual film any more. Sure, there were people who stood by film and everything, but digital worked just fine for Stephanie. She wasn't trying to win any sort of photography awards or anything like that, she just wanted to capture an image sometimes.

But, oddly enough, Ron did ask a good question there. How did they know for sure that all of the people that up and disappeared really were going home? Stephanie shrugged a bit, thinking that over. It was definitely something worth bringing up to the others at some point, she knew that much. "I guess we don't know that for sure," she said simply. "I think they decided people got sent back when some of the people who disappeared showed up again later and said they were back home for a while. It's worth asking about." Stephanie hadn't been there as long as a lot of the others, after all. She wasn't entirely sure about every single in and out of this place. But at least the ones that had been there for a while had seemed to know what was going on. For the most part.

"Weird." Most of the time, that was the way that Ron reacted to most of the things that he was told about Muggle technology. It really was fortunate for him that he had people around to explain it to him half the time. To think that he could have ended up anywhere else in the world without any contact from anyone he knew or anyone who might have understood that he didn't know much about the Muggle world...it made him plenty uncomfortable. He wouldn't have known what to do with himself then. Ron could barely remember how to work the money that he got for pay half the time, let alone figure out how to function with the other stuff that went along around here. He'd learned quite a bit over time, yeah, but what would happen when the day came that Muggles expected for him to do something that he couldn't do? What then? He'd just fumble along. Look like a prat. Get all red in the face. Yeah, that seemed like standard procedure to him.

"What about the ones that don't come back?" Ron looked down and shook his head. "I dunno. I can't shake the feeling that it's not right that we let people run off and hope that they're doing fine. I mean, Rose went missing earlier on and I still -" He worried. She was his kid. Not one that he raised or saw or actually made as of yet, but she was his kid. And he did care about her. What if Lilith had her? What if she was dead? What if - "I don't want them to be forgotten is all."

Not everyone forgot. But he wondered if any of them worried as much as he did. Ron might have come off as the sort of person who didn't think too much into things, but he did when those things involved people that he cared about.

Stephanie let out a bit of a sigh at that and shrugged. "I don't know. I haven't even been here two months yet," she started, thinking back through the time that she had been there. "And I mean, I haven't really gotten to know anyone that's ended up going back to... wherever it is they're from all that well yet, But I've got a feeling I'm not going to forget the people that do." She paused again then and took another bite of the sandwich she'd been picking at.

"Who's Rose?" she asked simply, curious about the girl he'd mentioned. She didn't know anyone named Rose, so she figured it was someone that had left before she showed up in Lawrence. Or maybe she got captured or something. Damn. Ron was making it all depressing in there. Bringing up good points and everything. She hadn't been expecting a depressing conversation.
