One would have thought, with her penchant for cleaning her home and for organizing her work, that Pandora Montgomery’s wedding would have been planned within a millimeter of its life and that she would have been one of the world’s biggest bridezillas. While it couldn’t quite be the farthest thing from the truth, it was rather out there in comparison to the truth.

The ceremony was family and closest friends only, along with one significant other. Which meant the ceremony itself would hold: Hyperion, who was officiating, and his girlfriend, ZJ; Persephone, who was standing up with her, and her boyfriend, Olivier; Philip, who was supposed to be walking her down the aisle, and his girlfriend, Addie; Nora, as her bestfriend, and also standing up with her, and her husband, Alec. Draco, as her cousin (if only by marriage), was of course invited, as were a few of her Montgomery cousins, such as Elroy, who would have something to do with her. And of course, Luna, who had been such a stalwart friend through all of this, and whoever she wanted as a date. That was all on her side. For Ewan there was his parents, of course, and all of his sisters and any significant others (and children) they had, as well as his bestmate, Lancelot, and his girlfriend, Quin, and anyone else he’d wanted to invite.

They’d chosen Ewan’s family’s home, the estate in Scotland. The weather had, thank the gods above and below, cooperated, and it promised to be a beautiful Scottish day, not too hot, and the heather was, indeed blooming. She’d chosen for it to be held at the top of a hill on the moor, underneath a gigantic tree that she and Ewan had climbed all the time in their youth. It held so many good memories for her, and the view from the top with the heather bobbing its heads was, to her mind, perfect.

Simple, and perfect, especially to a woman who had never expected to marry at all.

Afterwards, she’d planned a larger reception, for any of her friends who wished to come to celebrate with her. It was still held at the Summerby estate, with food and a beautiful, tasty cake made by Melinda from Sweet Nothings. All her friends were invited to it, her fellow Slytherins she’d kept in touch with from school, such as Terence and Blaise and Adrian, and of course Alicia, not only as Adrian’s wife but as one of the few people who put up with her myriad of healer related anxieties and who she genuinely liked.

Dora had a surprising amount of friends, if she stopped to actually think about it, which she rarely did. Not all had her full trust, but she was outwardly outgoing, her visible nature much more Hufflepuff than Slytherin. It was her inner nature that was private, her weaknesses, flaws, issues, hidden behind a very high wall that while not unbreachable, wasn’t easily accessed. So the reception should be a relaxed and lovely affair. Nothing was very fancy, but it was decorated and tasteful, elegant in an understated sort of way that Dora often favored.

So it was a simple ceremony and a simple party planned afterward.

Planned. Of course, plans rarely survived being implemented.

"I do." Her tone, though warm, implied the of course with ease. There was no one else she'd rather be doing this with and in fact no one she'd ever entertained the thought with but him.

She listened to him, her eyes on his, as he spoke, and to her there was no audience. She'd limited it as much as she thought she could get away with considering their families, so there would be less people for him to worry about. But for her, not even they were really there, just him. The center.

His words brought tears to her eyes, which she'd blame on hormones but she knew they'd be there anyway, and she reached up to cup his face, to pull him down, to kiss him softly. No, it wasn't time for that yet, but she didn't care. Then her hands traveled back down to his, and her fingers twined with his, and she took a deep breath.

She was not good at being soft, at least not in front of people. But she could do this. She drew his hands to her lips and she pressed a kiss to his knuckles. "Ye've had my heart since we were babes in arms, Ewan Summerby," she said, pale eyes on his. "Ye've had my heart just as long. Ye were my first friend. My partner in crime. Ye were my ears when I needed ears, as I was yer eyes when ye needed them. So of course ye were my first and only love. Ye've always had my heart. Ye've always been my missing piece. Ye've always been my haven from the world.

"So I pledge ye all these things. Ye have my heart. Ye have my friendship. Ye have a partner. Ye have anything of me I can give. Ye're rather stuck with me, as a matter of fact." Her smile grew faintly lopsided for a moment, amused. "As I was searching for what to say for this, I found something I rather liked, and I'll say it now, an old Scottish thing I think is fitting for us.

"I vow you the first cut of my meat, the first sip of my wine, from this day it shall only your name I cry out in the night and into your eyes that I smile each morning; I shall be a shield for you back as you are for mine. No shall a grievous word be spoken about us. Above and beyond this, I will cherish and honor you through this life and into the next, where we shall meet and love again." It was a slight mix of things, for she had enjoyed several of the vows and blessings she'd found, but she amended it to include her favorite parts and to make it flow as she thought best.

Hyperion was doing okay, honestly. He'd got a bit misty-eyed, but he was getting through it, and then at some point during Ewan's vows, a chord was struck deep within him. He looked at Panda's face, then glanced at his other sister, Persephone standing by Dora's side, and then their only living brother, Phillip sitting next to Adelaide in the front row, and then back to Pandora. They'd all nearly lost her to that darkness, and it had taken him the longest to get her back in his life. He'd been grateful many times these past months that she hadn't shut the door in his face when he'd surprised her by showing up on her doorstep on Easter, but he'd never been more grateful than he did in that moment. If he'd missed this? Missed the opportunity to officiate her wedding, to celebrate the love she shared with Ewan, he didn't think he would have been able to forgive himself.

And then Dora spoke, leading up to the Scottish promise, and it became harder to hold the tears back. But he did, blinking them back as he prepared to segue into the handfasting. He pulled his wand out then and levitated a small wooden box up in front of him. It had been carved with various runes and blessings for the marriage, and inside were the cords Ewan and Dora had chosen for their handfasting. One was woven with orange for encouragement and adaptability, brown for healing and nurturing and home and hearth, and gray for balance and a return to the universe without repercussion. The other with black for strength and empowerment, pink for love and unity, and silver for creativity and vision and protection.

Hype opened the box magically and then levitated the cords out, sending them to wrap around Ewan and Dora's joined hands in figure eights as a symbol for eternity as he spoke. "These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes: tears of sorrow and tears of joy. These are the hands that will comfort you in illness, and hold you when fear or grief racks your mind. These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times. These are the hands that will give you support and encourage you to chase your dreams. Together, everything you wish for can be realized."

He took a breath, tucking his wand away, and then added a blessing of his own to their marriage, hoping that they wouldn't be upset with him for it. "May you know nothing but happiness from this day forward. May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home. And may the hand of a friend always be near. May green be the grass you walk on. May blue be the skies above you. May pure be the joys that surround you. May true be the hearts that love you," he murmured the last as his hands lifted the ends of the cords, tying them in simple knots.

"From this day forward you are husband and wife. You may seal your vows with a kiss," he instructed them, taking a small step back.
