Wedding bells ringing
Who: Pandora Montgomery (soon to be Summerby), Ewan, Hyperion, Persephone, Philip, ZJ, Olivier, Addie, Draco, Lancelot, Quin, Nora, Alec, Luna, and pretty much any and all friends of theirs for the reception.
When: [FUTURE dated with permission] August 2nd
Where: Summerby estate in Scotland, and also St Mungos
What: Dora and Ewan’s wedding, reception, and the surprise at the end.
Warnings: Language, mentions of all things having babies, possibly, tbd
Notes: Please feel free to start subthreads in the marked places among yourselves! Anyone the couple knows is welcome for the reception, and anyone they’re related or very close to is at the wedding proper.

One would have thought, with her penchant for cleaning her home and for organizing her work, that Pandora Montgomery’s wedding would have been planned within a millimeter of its life and that she would have been one of the world’s biggest bridezillas. While it couldn’t quite be the farthest thing from the truth, it was rather out there in comparison to the truth.

The ceremony was family and closest friends only, along with one significant other. Which meant the ceremony itself would hold: Hyperion, who was officiating, and his girlfriend, ZJ; Persephone, who was standing up with her, and her boyfriend, Olivier; Philip, who was supposed to be walking her down the aisle, and his girlfriend, Addie; Nora, as her bestfriend, and also standing up with her, and her husband, Alec. Draco, as her cousin (if only by marriage), was of course invited, as were a few of her Montgomery cousins, such as Elroy, who would have something to do with her. And of course, Luna, who had been such a stalwart friend through all of this, and whoever she wanted as a date. That was all on her side. For Ewan there was his parents, of course, and all of his sisters and any significant others (and children) they had, as well as his bestmate, Lancelot, and his girlfriend, Quin, and anyone else he’d wanted to invite.

They’d chosen Ewan’s family’s home, the estate in Scotland. The weather had, thank the gods above and below, cooperated, and it promised to be a beautiful Scottish day, not too hot, and the heather was, indeed blooming. She’d chosen for it to be held at the top of a hill on the moor, underneath a gigantic tree that she and Ewan had climbed all the time in their youth. It held so many good memories for her, and the view from the top with the heather bobbing its heads was, to her mind, perfect.

Simple, and perfect, especially to a woman who had never expected to marry at all.

Afterwards, she’d planned a larger reception, for any of her friends who wished to come to celebrate with her. It was still held at the Summerby estate, with food and a beautiful, tasty cake made by Melinda from Sweet Nothings. All her friends were invited to it, her fellow Slytherins she’d kept in touch with from school, such as Terence and Blaise and Adrian, and of course Alicia, not only as Adrian’s wife but as one of the few people who put up with her myriad of healer related anxieties and who she genuinely liked.

Dora had a surprising amount of friends, if she stopped to actually think about it, which she rarely did. Not all had her full trust, but she was outwardly outgoing, her visible nature much more Hufflepuff than Slytherin. It was her inner nature that was private, her weaknesses, flaws, issues, hidden behind a very high wall that while not unbreachable, wasn’t easily accessed. So the reception should be a relaxed and lovely affair. Nothing was very fancy, but it was decorated and tasteful, elegant in an understated sort of way that Dora often favored.

So it was a simple ceremony and a simple party planned afterward.

Planned. Of course, plans rarely survived being implemented.

The Wedding

As was her wont, she wore little in the way of make up or glamours. A little more than perhaps usual, but still not all that much, things considered. She did, for the first time in a while, cover up her faded Mark with a specially charmed bracelet that sparkled prettily on her wrist. Her dress had been chosen not only for the style she favored but that would accomadate her expansive pregnancy, for the twins were growing and quickly. Her dark hair was lustrous, and styled simply, though instead of a veil she had some small flowers woven amid the styling, and some heather.

It was a pity that, like most days, she woke up feeling physically miserable, the pregnancy ever taking its toll on her hard worn, scarred body from the very beginning. Her health likely would never be great, from spell damage and physical hurts she’d suffered, though she was not, pregnancy aside, chronically ill. She looked forward to the point at which she would deliver the twins, for her constant companion, nausea, would finally recede.

The Braxton-Hicks contractions plagued her strongly enough ever since the sibling dinner, though after that she rarely complained about them, having gotten the hang of suffering through the stronger ones, and she had, for a wonder, listened to her sister and Alicia when they said to take it easy when she could, though she also kept busy in order to keep from going insane. She woke up to that steel band of pain in her lower back and hard on her abdomen, and so she breathed, bore it, and then prepared for the day of her wedding.

Even she was satisfied when she’d dressed and readied herself, her eyes bright and excited to finally be marrying the one man she’d ever loved. If her body felt miserable, her heart did not. Not even when she lost her breakfast (not an unusual occurrence) or kept rubbing regularly on her stomach, trying to calm the twins within her. For the preparatory false contractions seemed unusually strong and steady, something she didn’t wholly take in as she prepared at a steady pace. She was a woman much used to pain and discomfort. She thought nothing of it.

Until she stood, just before they were to go out for the ceremony, and a small rush of water left her grasping her skirt in alarm. She had not wet herself thusfar in her pregnancy, unless you counted just a smidge when she sneezed a couple of times, for she’d followed Alicia and Persephone’s advice on exercises to prevent it all religiously. So this wasn’t that. Her eyes were round and alarmed as they flew to Persephone’s and Nora’s, for they were the ones getting her ready and would go out with her to where she’d meet Philip, who would escort her down the aisle. Not to give her away, precisely, but for the sake of tradition, and standing in for the man she wished were there but who was not.

“I am not,” she declared, jaw tightening as she realized it was her water that had just broken, and that she’d been in labor at least part of the day without recognizing it, “missing my wedding unless it’s absolutely necessary. I have waited too long, and I am going to be married before I deliver them, I swear it.”

Persephone had put down the shifts in Pandora's mood to her usual pregnancy grumpiness and her excitement about marrying the love of her life. Personally, she was delighted to be here and part of her sister's big day. She was wearing a dress the colour of the heather, her own dark hair loose around her shoulders. Everything felt light and happy until Dora started ranting.

"Panda?" She frowned, concerned. Her hand came to rest on Pandora's back. "Do you want to sit back down and I'll take a look at you?"

Nora had been wandering around as her friend got ready, helping her when the need arose, or when Persephone wasn't already at her side. She was happy for Dora, truly, but on the other hand, this entire thing made her a bit thankful she and Alec had decided to elope. Nora couldn't quite handle the idea of people gathering and watching her. Dora was much stronger than she...

Her words though snapped her out of her thoughts, a frown coloring her features as she stared down Dora, noticing the water on the floor.

"Did..." she cut herself off, looking over at her sister. "Dora... did your water just...?"

Dora's face heated in an unusual fashion, for she wasn't one who normally was easily embarrassed. NOrmally she was the one making inappropriate jokes and flustering other people. But she did blush at Nora's question.

"I think my water just broke, yes," she said, willing her voice to be testy instead of frightened, for she was more than latter than the former by far. Fingers curled into the fine fabric of her gown and she had to force herself not to crumple it.

"You can, Persy," she said, "But I really really, really want to get married today."

"I know you do, Panda," Persephone said smoothly, guiding her sister to sit back down. "I know." She rubbed her hand in a gentle circle on Pandora's back. Her wand, which until now had been adjusting hair and make up and flowers, turned to diagnostic spells. "Have you been having contractions?" Her water breaking didn't mean she was going to have the babies right now.

A band of blue light stretched around Pandora's belly and Persephone watched the way it pulsed. "We have time." She looked towards Nora, a little wide-eyed. "We just have to not tell Ewan or Hyperion until after the vows."

Ewan had been nervous for weeks leading up to this moment. Dora had wanted to wait for the heather to bloom before they got married, but the impending arrival of the twins certainly disrupted those plans however minimally, the two of them moving the date up not insignificantly.

At least-- he'd assumed-- they wouldn't have to worry about her giving birth anytime inconvenient.

The one relief he'd gotten when it came to his anxiety had been the fact that their wedding was small and being held in a familiar place. He'd had almost nothing to worry about-- how he managed to still find something to worry about was almost entirely beyond comprehension.

His heart was absolutely hammering in his chest as he stood at the altar, waiting for his Panda bear to make it out, escorted by her younger brother. Of course, what he hadn't expected was for her to look like a Greek goddess, his breath catching at the sight of her.

Dora hadn't been nervous about the wedding itself in any real sort of way. She was reasonably sure that if Ewan were going to leave her, it would be at some point before the altar or after it, not in medias res.

She really wished the bairns would have waited a while longer. Not just for the sake of the wedding but because they needed a little while longer to bake, so to speak. She knew, from her appointments, that she was past the most dangerous times, but that didn't mean it was safe yet either.

But she was determined to go through with this right now. Persy said it wasn't unsafe per se, and she wanted this too much to give in to a little pain.

Fingers curled with deceptive gentleness into the sleeve of Philip's jacket. Her eyes, though, were all for Ewan at the end of the aisle, and for a moment she really did forget all her difficulties as she beamed at him.

At the end of the aisle she turned to her younger brother and rocked up onto her toes to press her lips to his cheek. "Thank you," she said softly, and it meant a lot of things. Thank you for walking her down the aisle. Thank you for being there for her all thus time. Thank you for just about everything.

Then her eyes were all for her beloved again as her hands slipped into his and squeezed. The extra breath could be taken for nerves, and sheer will kept her from squeezing harder as there was a contraction. She didn't dare say anything though Or Ewan would make them leave now, and it wouldn't take long here, she knew it.

He would have. But then, so would her brother and just about everyone else there that cared for her well-being, and so it was perhaps a good thing that Dora wasn't letting them in on their little secret.

Ewan had wondered-- very briefly, as his anxiety seemed to remind him that there was always something that could go wrong at any and all times-- if she didn't look to be in pain as she was walking down the aisle only to ultimately brush it off as nonsense. She was so utterly beautiful, his Panda Bear, and he had every reason to be infinitely grateful that they'd even made it to this point in the first place, that they finally could get married after years of waiting.

That she even still wanted to.

Resisting the urge to hold his hands out to her, Ewan's smile nevertheless widened at the sight of her before him as he suddenly felt almost impossibly antsy to finally be married to the woman of his dreams.

"Hi," he simply whispered, almost conspiratorially, nerves momentarily getting the better of him.

The Reception
[info]pandacharms
2017-07-31 04:24 am UTC (link)
There were a bunch of tables, neatly and elegantly decorated, though on a budget so Dora had done most of the charms work herself, late at night when she couldn’t sleep. The cake was a magnificent affair done by Melinda, and Dora hated that she was going to miss out on eating cake at her own wedding.

But she was off to have the baby, to the dreaded hospital because it was early and it could be dangerous to them, and that was the only reason she was going. So once the ceremony was done, and the reception started, someone was sent down to tell all of the party goers that the bride and groom were not, in fact, able to attend the festivities – for they were about to become parents! But everyone was welcome to stay and feast on the food, and to eat the cake and drink the alcohol and other beverages, and to dance and have a good time.

Dora, in the meantime, would be working to delivery her two most unexpected but treasured bundles of joy.

Addi & OPEN (pre-announcement)
[info]imashootingstar

It had been such a lovely, small, intimate wedding, and Addi had almost felt like an intruder witnessing it. But she wasn't an intruder--she was the bride's younger brother's girlfriend, and that made her welcome. It helped, she supposed, that she did actually like Dora by her own right and looked forward to getting to work with the other woman more closely.

But when the ceremony was over, she made her way down with everyone else to the where the reception was to be held, enjoying the way her dress swished around her ankles. She of course had her belly ring in which was charmed to get past muggle-repelling charms, but her bracelet was also charmed with a mild glamour to hide the scars on her arms and wrists.

It would be a little bit before the newly married couple made their entrance, she supposed, if it followed most wedding receptions, and she was looking forward to mingling a bit, but she was most looking forward to dancing with Phillip when the time came.

Phillip had hoped to enjoy this. The only problem was that things were not going as planned. Panda hadn't been supposed to go into labor, after all. And seeing as he was her brother... well. As much as he wanted to stick around and enjoy the reception they'd so lovingly put together, this was not the place he was supposed to be most right now.

Still, one glass of champagne wouldn't hurt-- it wasn't as though Dora would give birth in the next few minutes-- Phillip heading over to where Addi was looking utterly lovely to hold her champagne flute out to her with a smile.

"It seems there's been a bit of an... unexpected change of plans."

When she spotted him heading her way, Addi smiled warmly at Phillip, taking the offered flute and sipping from it just as he spoke.

"Oh, has there?" she asked, curious what sort of change of plans there could be. Had Dora and Ewan decided to ditch the festivities and start their honeymoon early? Not that she could blame them! With twins on the way, she could imagine they wanted to get in as much quality time together as they could before they arrived.

Luna & Open
[info]lovingluna
2017-08-06 01:08 am UTC (link)
As with any wedding that Luna attended, she wore a yellow dress. It went back to something her father had told her when they were going to Bill and Fleur’s wedding, you wore sun colors to a wedding for good luck. This was Dora’s wedding and there was no way that Luna was going to show up in any other color, she had even gone out to get a brand new yellow dress to wear for her friend’s wedding.

The ceremony had been beautiful and Pandora had looked absolutely gorgeous. They had gotten the unfortunate news that the bride and groom would not be making it to their own reception, that they were going to become parents! Luna couldn’t decide if maybe that was very good news, though she knew it was a bit early. She was hopeful that the doctors, as well as Dora’s sister who was a doctor herself, would keep mother and children safe. She was suddenly very happy she had worn her yellow dress for good luck, the couple were definitely going to need it.

Luna had come with her boyfriend Dom, though she had lost him at some point when she had slipped away to the bathroom. She had noticed him across the room talking to someone and waved so that he would know where she was before she slipped away to get herself a piece of cake. It looked delicious, she wondered if he might like a slice? As she looked over the neatly laid out slices, she wondered who had taken the initiative as she picked up a plate. “This looks delicious. Melinda has outdone herself as usual.” She spoke aloud to no one and anyone nearby.

Re: The Reception (The Announcement)
[info]hyperioniam

After the wedding was over and Dora and Ewan had left the little area they'd set off for the ceremony, Hyperion had waiting a few minutes before going to track them down. He'd wanted to ask about pictures, to see if Dora was feeling up to doing them now or if she needed a bit of a rest first. After her false labor last month, he'd been exceedingly worried about her and he knew it was probably frustrating her that he was so understanding (and perhaps a bit pushy) about her her need to rest more frequently.

And that's when Dora and Persy had told him she was in labor. They'd been gathering a few things needed before making their way to the hospital. He'd offered to make the announcement to everyone waiting on them at the reception and then given Dora a gentle hug and a kiss on her forehead, whispering to her that she was going to be brilliant. He'd told them that he and ZJ would be along in a bit and probably Phillip, too, and then he'd seen them off before making his way down to where the reception was being held.

Hype snagged a flute of champagne and a spoon on his way in the room, looking around at everyone dancing and mingling and just generally having a good time, spotting his brother and Addi dancing which caused his grin to go a bit crooked. Yeah, he still had some small concerns there, but he was a bloody sap, so he was hopeful. He hopped up on a chair so that he towered above the guests, then clinked the spoon against the glass. "Can I have everyone's attention, please?"

Once the chatter died down and most everyone was looking at him, Hype spoke again, loud and clear, "I have an announcement! The new Mr and Mrs Summerby will not be joining us for the festivities, as they're on their way to the hospital to bring the most anticipated and precious twins into the world! Yes, it is early, but the healers will take good care of both mum and bairns," he assured them in a confident tone, though he was definitely worried for his sister and the babies. Too early, his mind kept going back to. "In the meantime, Ewan and Dora have requested that everyone stay and have a good time--drink, dance, enjoy the cake and food! And so," he paused, raising his glass in a toast, "To Ewan and Dora!" He'd had a much better toast planned, but it just wouldn't be the same without his sister and her new husband, so this would just have to do.

The Birth
[info]pandacharms
2017-07-31 04:24 am UTC (link)
Dora hated hospitals. Aside from her sister and Alicia, she quite disliked most healers as well, not trusting them and for a certain amount of good reason as well. But she quite hated St Mungos, whose spell damage ward would dearly love to keep her as a matter of study for they didn’t – and couldn’t, as far as Dora could tell – chart the extent of the damage she’d suffered from the Cruciatus and other curses. There were still small things that popped up at times that startled her, that ended up being caused by that. Like how poorly she performed most Healing spells, even charms, even when she had all the right words and intent and motions.

So between the fear of going into labor and the anxiety of having to go to the hospital, she was, inwardly, a wreck. Outwardly though, for Ewan’s sake at least, she projected an aura of calm. At least, she thought, Ewan and Persephone and Alicia wouldn’t let anything bad happen to her here, right? Or the bairns.

But nevertheless, by the time they got there, once she admitted what was going on to Ewan just after the ceremony, her heart pounded and the contractions were already stronger and faster. She was doing her best to be strong, but even as they assigned her a room, she fretted, restlessness and pain making her want to pace around even though there was a bed she should probably get into.

Addi & Zee [possible triggers]
[info]imashootingstar
2017-08-01 06:59 am UTC (link)
When Phillip had first asked her to come along with him to the hospital to wait anxiously for his sister's twins to be born, she'd known there was no way she could say no. This was a huge moment for his family--his first niece and nephew!--and she wanted to be there for him, but she knew there would be some anxiety with being back at the hospital despite not being a patient and this, in fact, being a joyous occasion.

The last thing she wanted to do, however, was let Phillip see any of that anxiety. She didn't want to make him feel guilty for wanting her there with him--it was a big deal that he did, after all--especially because she loved him. That was a completely different anxiety, though, and one she didn't feel quite ready to evaluate deeply just yet. No, she just wanted to keep going as they were for now, to give them both time to figure out what their feelings truly were and to make sure they weren't built on fleeting flights of fancy. The more she got to know him, though, the more confident in her feelings she became, and that was rather terrifying.

But this wasn't the time to be dwelling on her feelings. She sat in a chair in the waiting area, one leg crossed over the other and her foot bouncing the only outward sign of her inner jitters. It was the smell that was getting to her most--that antiseptic scent with the underlying stench of the injured, dead, and dying. Try as she might to ignore it, the longer she sat there, the harder it was to keep her mind from going back... back to that filthy hotel room, back to the room she'd occupied in this hospital as she'd healed.

Her stomach was churning by the time she realized Zee was trying to catch her eye, and she grimaced faintly at the look of concern, shaking her head slightly. "I'm going to head to the loo," she murmured to Phillip, squeezing his hand and brushing a light kiss to his cheek before she darted from the waiting room to find the lavatory. Her hands were shaking by the time she reached the room, and she gasped as she leaned over a sink, clutching the basin in a white-fingered grip, her eyes squeezed shut as she tried to reign in her breathing.

It was the bouncing leg that had caught Zahara’s attention first. It was when she had come back from mooning over the newborns in their little bassinets, as she had slid into her seat next to Hyperion and slipped her hand into his that she had noticed Addi’s bouncing. When Addi wouldn’t look at her, Zahara knew something was not just up, but it was wrong. As the younger woman slipped away to the loo, she didn’t get up immediately. She didn’t want to alarm the boys just yet, they both had a niece and nephew to meet soon. Besides, there was no need to worry them if this all turned out to just be that Addi had been holding it since they had left the reception and really needed to use the loo. She knew it was a long shot but there was always hope.

After a few minutes she was getting up from her seat, stealing a kiss from Hyperion before giving him an excuse about needing a drink before she had slipped away to follow after Addi. She knocked at the door to the loo first before she was trying the handle and slipping inside the restroom, locking the door behind her. Just in case, she doubted from the look of things that Addi wanted anyone else coming in. She would let anyone out if they needed.

“I hope you don’t mind but if I didn’t walk away I’m almost certain my ovaries would have exploded.” Zahara did her best to make her voice sound like and joking. Although she hadn’t moved from where she was resting with her back against the door, her hazel eyes were watching Addi in the mirror. She was hoping to catch her eye in the mirror before she came too far into the room. “Sickle for your thoughts? I might still have some lemon drops in my pocket…” She slipped a hand into the one magical pocket that had come with her new dress, it was big enough to hold her wand and a few pieces of candy she had stashed in her pocket to snack on during the ceremony. The dress was one of her new favorites, not only did she match Hyperion for the wedding but it had held just enough candy that she could share with friends.

In the few minutes it had taken Zee to join her in the loo, Addi's breathing had become more staggered, her eyes burning with un-shed tears, and she'd crouched down for a bit, her hands still gripping the basin. Only once she thought she could actually breathe again did she stand upright once more, and just in time, too, as Zee opened the door just moments later. At Zee’s words, she let out a soft, choked laugh, shaking her head. “You and your ovaries,” she chided jokingly. She’d be surprised if Zee wasn’t the next of their little group to get pregnant.

Addi’s eyes were still closed, so she didn’t meet Zee’s gaze in the mirror, but at the mention of lemon drops, she finally opened them looked at her friend, flinching faintly. “No candy, Zee. Not right now.” Her stomach couldn’t handle sweets just then. She forced her hands to relax their grip on the sink and then shifted to lean her hip against it instead. “It’s just… hard being back here, that’s all,” she admitted on a whisper. “I… don’t want Phillip to know—I don’t want him to feel guilty!” Her eyes pleaded with her friend to please keep this between them.

What he couldn't understand was why she hadn't bloody well told him! Merlin's beard, the thought of her somehow hurting herself by putting off going to the hospital just to get married to him-- honestly, of all people, he could be asked to wait!-- was enough to make him suffer an anxiety attack at the thought. He wanted to marry her, of course he did-- he had for ages now wanted nothing more, but...

Her life and that of their children was more important than what he'd wanted from the day he first figured out that he was completely and utterly besotted with her.

She seemed so pulled together-- how?!-- when they'd literally given him a bag for the breathing upon their arrival at the hospital. A part of him had wished that Persephone could have simply helped deliver the twins back at the house so that they wouldn't have had to deal with all of this, that she could have felt comfortable and happy instead of utterly stressed out about their environment. None of that helped. He'd wanted to be able to comfort her, to make her feel better, but now she seemed to be in more of a state to be able to do that than he was!

Now, if only he could stop feeling like he was about to pass out... that would be phenomenal.

The ceremony was as much for her as him, and she'd wanted badly the formality of it before she had the babies. Though not hide bound, Dora did enjoy a certain amount of traditionalism. And there was, faint in her mind, the air of legitimacy being married when you had children kept, though it would fool no one since she hadn't been married the majority of her pregnancy.

Restless. She was so restless. That was one way her anxiety was manifesting. At least she had a partial hospital bag packed, just in case. She'd been very broody and nesty lately, not going out much except for work or to see Nora or Luna or Lavender.

She prowled the room, lips brushing over her new ring ahain (and thank goodness for magic or it might not fit because of the pregnancy!). She knew none of her reaction was helping Ewan though and she felt a bit bad about that, so she went over to him. "Help me into something more comfortable?" She asked. Something for both of them to do. She had packed a more comfortable sort of gown bevause hell if she was wearing one of those provided by the hospital.

Dora had almost always been nigh impossibly sweet and considerate when it came to him. For Merlin's sake-- he wasn't the one about to be giving birth to twins, and here she was, trying to calm him down!

Pulling the bag away, he ran a shaky hand down his face only to meet his glasses, a frustrated sound leaving him as his vision was promptly left smudged.

"Y-yes," he nodded hastily, only to find himself looking around the room somewhat desperately. Hadn't they packed a bag for this? Where on earth had they put it?! "Where--"

He spotted it even as he started asking, his eyes widening as he moved to grab it, opening it with trembling fingers. "D-d-do the healers think they can stop it?"

Despite the earlier onset of the labor, it lasted a long time. Luckily, her urge to prowl and roam had been somewhat encouraged by Persy and the Healers, who told her it was good to move. But it seemingly took forever, and she knew how much Ewan worried. She rarely yielded to her anxiety, usually when she was away from him for a few moments, before she asserted her iron will over herself again.

She hated hospitals.

It would have been easy enough to allow that disconnect that she often felt when in pain, for there was a good deal of pain especially as the labor progressed. But she refused to let it take hold, for she wanted to be... to have that emotion available to her when they were born, not all cut off from all feeling. It was all or nothing, that switch of hers, and she refused to have the first sight of her children done under the flatness of her coping mechanism.

It was late into the night when she finally got to push, and she was already exhausted. Luckily for her, exhaustion was a dear, familiar friend, and though parts of her health suffered, she'd taken good care of herself through the pregnancy.

At 11:05pm, August 2nd, Ainsley Selene slipped into the world, a hair over four pounds and screaming her displeasure at her abrupt departure from warmth and familiarity, proving to everyone in the room that her lungs were quite well formed, thank you very much. She even had a shock of dark hair, which some people had guessed at from the heart burn she had suffered along with her nausea.

The Healers whisked her away for a little while, and Dora finally lay back for a few minutes, panting softly with the effort she'd just expended. But they brought her back, and for a moment her world narrowed to just the tiny creature on her chest. The woman who cheerfully called herself heartless stroked the tiny body, so perfect looking despite her tininess, and cooed at her even as she protested and then settled as a hand curved over her protectively.

She slipped into Scots instinctively and greeted her daughter in that lilting tone. She held her until she felt the beginnings of another contraction building, reminding her she wasn't done yet, and one of the healers whisked her up to swaddle her and present her to Ewan, who had held her hand despite her sometimes crushing grip on it.

Then her world perforce had to narrow again, to the rhythmic pains. Persy's voice coached her, and sometimes Ewan's, but it became evident that she was having some trouble when nearly an hour passed and her boy hadn't yet come. Something felt off to her, and she could read some medical diagnostic charms even if she couldn't cast them. She thought they indicated the first flutters of distress in it.

She hoped Ewan had no idea what they meant.

"If something's da matter, I want ye to get Ewan out of here, make some excuse," she whispered to Persy, pale eyes bright with pain and exhaustion. "Oh, Persy, have I cursed my boy by wantin' to call him Perseus?" she asked even more softly, just to her sister, obviously distressed. She'd asked Hyperion about it, briefly, only a couple weeks prior. But she'd not managed to broach it in all this time with the other two. She thought she'd have more time. She'd probably only as him because it had been late and she'd slipped out for a walk and run into him, and she'd been exhausted and trying to clear her head enough to sleep.

"Oh, Panda, of course ye haven't cursed him." Persephone dabbed her sister's forehead with a cool cloth. "He has all the potential our brother and more." She was tired herself, but nothing compared to Pandora. Unlike her sister, she couldn't let it show. "And one day, when he's annoying ye, ye'll be able to hold this over his wee head. Making ye wait like this! The cheek of it!" She hoped it wouldn't become necessary for Ewan to leave, so she had to think positively.

The baby's heart rate was raised, though, and it was about time he made his entrance before they had to resort to anything more intrusive. They'd already had to turn the baby a little, but one of her colleagues gave her a positive signal. "He's in the right position now, so nearly time to push again. Can't let him get too comfortable in there, okay?"

Dora was beyond grateful that Persy hadn't hardly left her during this. She didn't know what she would ahve done without her sister here with her, whether she was a healer or not. Persy had been so calm and steadfast and hadn't let anyone do anything to her without her knowing about it first, something that soothed a fair amount of her anxiety about the entire ordeal. Persy knew how afraid of such things she was.

Thank goodnes for people who were willing to understand.

"He's a stubborn Scot, that's for sure," Dora murmured. "Cheeky bairn, making his mum wait." The lightheartedness and the short rest laying back she'd taken had helped, and she shot her sister a grateful look.

Then with effort -- she was so tired, bone tired -- she pushed herself upright more, where it felt better and easier to push. She didn't know how some women did labor that lasted over a day. She had no clue. But then, most women slept a bit more and better than she, the chronic insomniac, likely ever would. She pushed away the fear and when the next contraction hit her and she was ordered to push, she did so hard, bearing down determinedly despite the mounting pain.

It wasn't precisely based where she knew he was easing out of her finally, a bit smaller than his sister but no less as upset about the proceedings, though his wail was quieter. Something felt like it popped or tore, she didn't know; vaguely the way it had felt when she'd torn scar tissue once a long time ago.

She paid it no mind for the moment, though, anxious to see little Perseus McKay, who had determinedly stayed in the womb long enough to have a different birthday than his sister. She hadn't the energy to really cry, no, but she felt the urge when she finally got to see him, and she checked him over with the same avid, loving fascination, the world seeming to tilt a little bit.

She realized a moment later that it wasn't necessarily her baby giving her that sensation, and she blinked over at her sister. She felt a bit like she did after a particularly bad dueling injury, come to think of it. "Persy, I think maybe I'm bleeding or something," she said, carefully if reluctantly handing her baby back, her face paler than it was natural even for her. It could have been the exhaustion and effort, but... "Everything's a bit..."

It was then that one of her own diagnostics started flashing rather than pulsing, indicating that she was right, that there was bleeding somewhere and it should probably be fixed before she lost more blood than she already had.

In a sharp contrast to her fresh and polished appearance that morning before the wedding, it was a tired and rumpled Persephone who strolled into the waiting room in the early hours of the morning. She wore Healers robes and had her hair knotted into two braids; her glasses badly needed a polish. Persephone clutched a mug of terrible coffee in one hand.

"Mother and babies are doing fine. Ainsley Selene and Perseus McKay Summerby." Her voice caught a little. "About four pounds each. Two different birthdays. One very tired Panda."
