Breaking you down is gonna be so easy ([info]halfbloodsally) wrote in [info]veritaserum_rp,

Entry tags:adrian pucey, hermione granger, mafalda hopkirk, sally-anne warrington

Tag to Hermione, then Mafalda, then Adrian
Who: Sally Anne, Hermione, Mafalda and Adrian (ORGY FUN)
Where: A bit down the street from St. Mungos, I should think
When: Like 8am-ish
What: Sally Anne is now getting kidnapped

Sally Anne left their modest but clean home with her husband. She mentioned meeting an old friend from Hogwarts for a bit of window-shopping. In reality she was to meet Hermione Granger for a visit to St. Mungos. Like many other witches, Sally Anne was losing her magic and she was afraid to Floo by herself. But Merlin forbid Chris found out (not that he would hurt her, but wasn't it better to be safe than sorry about these sort of delicate matters?), or worse yet, his dreadful family.

She bid him farewell just inside the Ministry and then returned to the busy street outside, intent on a fairly long and laborious trek to St. Mungos. Not really certain if she could floo or portkey by herself, she resigned herself to Muggle transportation, and began walking.

She felt strange and vulnerable without her magic, although she was still carried her wand. It was like walking naked for all the world to see. She hurried her pace a bit near the less-crowded areas. She had her own suspicions about Hannah's kidnapping but was fairly certain her connection to the Warringtons would keep her safe. Unless someone had found out about Plan Equal.

A figure just in front of her seemed vaugly familiar. "Hermione?" she called out tentatively.

As usual, Hermione was early. Since Sally Anne had asked her to go to St. Mungos with her, her worries had started escalating and she'd found herself wide awake at 5:00 that morning. So, order to use up some time before she had to meet Sally, she stopped by her office briefly to check on things, then went to get a small cup of tea to try to calm her nerves.

Having lost her magic did not sit well with Hermione at all. She felt defenseless and useless; what would happen if her magic didn't come back? The mere thought made the knot lodged in Hermione's stomach tighten. Add her fears about Hannah and how anyone could be next on top of all that and Hermione's nerves were just about spent.

Hermione was sipping her tea when she heard a familiar voice behind her. Turning, she saw Sally Anne, and a small smile graced her lips.

"Sally Anne!" Hermione responded, walking toward the girl. "How are you holding up?" She asked, her tone softening.

Thank Merlin.

"Not well," she responded, quite bluntly, all pre-tense of a proper pureblood wife gone. "In fact, I think I'm quite close to a nervous-breakdown." She gave a wry smile and then an envious glance at Hermione's tea. "I think the sooner we get this over with the happier I'll be."

"I want to thank you again for going with me. I didn't want to do this alone but one does have to be careful about one's company in these kinds of situations. In fact, there's something I hope to discuss with you after St. Mungo's if you have a few moments."

Yes, this trip would be two-fold: a necessary trip to the Healers and a necessary chat about Plan Equal.

Hermione frowned slightly. "I know exactly how you feel, all of this driving me mad." She replied, noting the glance at her tea. "Would you like some? I got it to try to calm my nerves, it might help. I'm sure I could get another cup for you, they're not that far down the street."

She gave Sally Anne another smile. "It's no problem. It's probably better that I get checked out, anyway, and I don't think I would have if you hadn't asked, so I should be thanking you." Hermione paused. "Of course we can talk for a bit after; is something else going on?"

Sally Anne nodded quickly. "Tea sounds like a wonderful idea, actually. You know that kind of...well maybe it's just my interpretation, but emptiness this lack of magic thing creates? I think the warming sensation of tea is sort of comforting, like it's filling up those empty spots."

"No, nothing really is going on. I just didn't really think now was an appropriate time." She smiled as reassuringly as possible. "It will make more sense after St. Mungos."

She shrugged and her shoulders slumped just slightly. "What do you think about the whole Ms. Abbott situation? I think I recall her from Hogwarts, but otherwise I don't know her."

"Lovely." Hermione said, take a step toward the place she'd gotten her tea. "I know the feeling," She replied, nodding. It"I feel like part of me is just..gone. Like I'm incomplete." It was nice to talk to someone who understood how she felt. "Yes, tea is quite comforting, which is why I love it so much, especially when I'm anxious."

Hermione brow furrowed slightly, but she shrugged it off. "Alright, that's fine with me." She smiled. "We'll discuss whatever it is after our visit."

At the mention of Hannah, Hermione sighed. "I think it's just horrible. I didn't know her too well either, but Hannah was a Prefect as well, from Hufflepuff, so I was able to work with her from time to time. Very friendly. I don't know why anyone would want to kidnap her or anything." She paused, lowering her voice slightly. "Do you think anyone else might be taken as well?"

Sally Anne nodded as she listened, half following Hermione, half trying to lead. She didn't like being uncertain where she was going. Some sort of strange personality quirk.

"Yes, horrible indeed. I didn't really think much when I read the Prophet article. You know how some people just like to pick up and take some time away. You know, after a bd break up or something. But, yes, after hearing from so many others it is very strange. That and my husband seems to think some sort of foul play is at work too." She looked at Hermione quickly. "Not that I hang on his every opinion, but he's ex-Slytherin you see, so...well not to stereotype, but...do you understand?"

She trailed off for a moment. "But no, I don't think anyone else will be taken. There must be something to Ms. Abbott in particular, her family perhaps." She paused thoughtfully. "Then again I thought the loss of magic was an isolated occurance. Are you of the opinion the two are connected?"

Hermione was walking her usual pace, but a little slower. They were almost at the little shop.

"Well, I'd had my suspicions with all this business with our magic; a strange little epidemic like that, it didn't sit right with me. Maybe I'm expecting some intriguing plot, or maybe it's a coincidence that Hannah lost her magic and then was kidnapped, but it just doesn't feel like a coincidence. Ex-Slytherin?" Hermione paused and raised an eyebrow slightly. "I understand completely, and there's nothing wrong with listening to what someone close to you thinks. Ron actually thinks foul play as well; it seems to be the general consensus."

Hermione considered Sally Anne's words. "Maybe you're right; I'd like to think no one else will be taken. Even better, I'd like to think this didn't happen or that Hannah will come back alright." She sighed. "I don't know, I feel like they're connected...but I'm not a stranger to over-analyzing."

"General consensus? I don't hear much around the office and then the rest of the time is spent at home. I miss getting out. But everyone must be over-analyzing. This is actually pretty frightening. Or at least extremely unsettling."

"What if this isn't curable, Hermione? What's the next step then? I can't believe I'm the only one living with this in secrecy."

"Ron?" She asked suddenly, and then laughed lightly, surprising herself. It felt like she hadn't laughed in ages. "Have you two been together all this time, then? Amazing. You must be talking about marriage!"

"It's mostly what's come up when I discuss it. Then again I haven't talked to that many people, but it's the feeling I get." Hermione glanced at Sally Anne. "It is very frightening, which is why I talk about it. Well, with people I trust to talk to about it. I just...we don't know if anything else is going to happen, but something could happen." She took in a deep breath. "I wish we found out we all were over-analyzing. It would mean nothing else will happen."

At that question, Hermione had to think for a moment. The worries about losing her magic permanently had been something she'd tried to push away, for fear of possible results. "I don't know." She admitted, brushing a few curls that had fallen out of her face. "I've been thinking about that a lot. I've been hoping the magic will come back. If not because whatever caused it passes then because whoever caused it, if there is a specific group or person, is caught. It would be nice if they figured out the cause, because we could probably find something to counter it. It's all just a big mess. But don't worry that you're keeping it hidden, it's probably better for your safety. If being without magic has to do with kidnappings for anything, you're all set."

At the mention of 'Ron' and 'marriage' in the same thought, Hermione blushed and bit her lip. "Yes, Ron. But we've only starting dating, actually." She added. "Marriage? I..." Hermione laughed. "I don't think we'll be thinking about that for a while." Hermione could only imagine being married to Ron, being a Weasley. It wasn't a bad thought; things would definitely stay interesting.

Mafalda leaned against the cool stones of a large building, just far enough inside the alley that she could see the two girls approaching it while still being hidden in the shadows cast by the early-morning sun. She was not pleased about having to be awake so early, and she almost pitied the girls if they tried to cross her.

As they moved closer, she considered the best way to lure them into the alley. She didn't know much about Sally Anne, but she was fairly certain Granger was smart enough to not fall for anything too obvious... Scanning her surroundings for inspiration, her eyes fell on a mangy-looking cat ruffling through a pile of garbage. That would do.

With a flick of her wrist she hexed the creature, a large gash appearing across its stomach and instantly beginning to bleed. She smiled faintly behind her mask as the cat yowled in pain. She carefully floated the bleeding cat over to the alley's entrance, setting it down just inside the shadows where it continued to make the most wonderful pitiful noises. Now she just had to hope at least one of the girls' softhearted natures would convince them to take the bait.

"Not that I don't fancy Ron, I do, obviously, since I went through all the trouble of telling him and whatnot." Hermione said as they walked down the street. "But it took us about 10 years to start dating. And marriage is..." She felt her cheeks burning. "A big step."

"Anyway," She said, shaking her head a little. "We're almost at St. Mungos, we'll get checked up, and maybe they can tell us something." Hermione gave an encouraging smile. "It's been over a week since this has all started, they must most something about--" She cut herself off as she heard a sort of wailing or crying. They were a few feet away from an alleyway, and it appeared whatever that sound was, it was coming from there.

"What's that?" Hermione asked, her body tensing instantly. She didn't have a good feeling about it.

Sally Anne grinned as the other witch blushed. "Well I'm sorry, I didn't know. But I don't think I'm alone in thinking you two had been together the whole time."

"What's what?" She asked, shooting Hermione a puzzled and almost irritated look. She'd managed to get herself all wound-up again in the short walk. The what-ifs and all. Now she just wanted to get in and get out and move on with whatever the answer was.

But she cocked her head to the side and listened. "Sounds like a cat, Hermione, that's all." Sally Anne glanced over at the alleyway and her brows furrowed. "Sounds like the poor thing is crying. Maybe someone is having a worse day of it than we are."

She started towards the alley, mind momentarily off their predicament. "Oh Hermione, I can see him from here, see his tail? I think he's hurt." She knelt down next to the curled up cat and frowned. "And right when we're magicless too!"

The cat mewled pathetically up at Sally Anne and tried to drag itself further inside the alley. Mafalda watched the woman move closer, wand at the ready. Good girl. With a few muttered words thick ropes shot out from the end of her wand and wrapped themselves tightly around Sally Anne's torso. She gave it a good tug and brought the girl stumbling into the alley where she grabbed her by her hair and shoved her up against the stone wall.

"Be a good girl and behave and I won't have to do to you what I did to that poor kitten over there, all right?" She hissed in Sally Anne's ear.

She had what she needed now; she knew she should just take the girl and go. But she couldn't help but wait to see what Hermione's reaction would be. Would she try to fight, even without her magic? This could turn out to be interesting indeed.

Hermione paused as Sally Anne went into the alley. "Sally Anne, I really don't think--" Then suddenly ropes appeared and wrapped themselves around Sally Anne. Hermione watched in horror as a figure, cloaked and masked, grabbed Sally Anne.

"SALLY ANNE!" She yelled, but there weren't many people around, and Hermione frantically looked around. There was garbage, litter, boxes, papers, some scattered bricks-- Hermione's eyes widened and grabbed a few bricks. She knew she was being stupid, having no magic and all, but she refused to stand by, idle.

Hermione flung one of the bricks, and hoped it hit the mysterious figure.

Sally Anne didn't even have time to react, but she was brought to reality as her head slammed into the wall rather painfully. For a moment she struggled but all was sort of hopeless without magic. What the hell was going on?

She glared at the masked figure- a woman's voice?- and said as plainly and shortly as she could muster. "Let me go."

A brick sailed by Sally Anne's face and she reflexively shut her eyes. Thank Merlin she had asked Hermione to go with her, a thousand times over. That Muggleborn witch was fiercer than a hundred Purebloods put together.

The ropes around Sally Anne disappeared as Mafalda used to wand to ward off Hermione's bricks, but she still had a firm grip on the girl's hair. If she was going to pull away, she was going to leave a good portion on her scalp behind.

"Bricks, Miss Granger? Really?" Mafalda sounded amused as she turned to Hermione. She'd made sure to use a charm to disguise her voice, lest the girl recognize her by it.

"I suppose I'll give you points for being resourceful, mudblood, but you'd really ought to choose your battles more wisely." She flicked her wand again, one of the bricks flying back at Hermione and missing her face by just a fraction of an inch.

Hermione was pleased to see she'd distracted this person and gotten the ropes off of Sally Anne, though Sally Anne was still in their grasp.

The voice had the slightest tint of familiarity in it, but Hermione couldn't figure out who it belonged to or anything. The amused tone didn't sound good to Hermione, but she refused to step down.

"You don't expect me to just stand by and let you take her, do you?" Hermione said, trying to portray as much confidence as possible; showing how scared she was wasn't an option. "Let her go!"

She leaned to the side as a brick came flying back at her, and in order to try to further disrupt this person, Hermione moved suddenly and flung two bricks at once, one right after the other in hopes of getting the grip off of Sally Anne.

Adrian apparated suddenly directly behind Hermione, and very much to his surprise. He was well aware he was running behind but never did he imagine a fight would be going on. The witch appeared to be chucking bricks at Mafalda, and there was Sally Anne, held by her hair.

"Confringo!" he shouted, aiming at first one brick and then the next. Without bothering to see if his spell did any damage, he reached out to grab the back of Hermione's robes.

"What are you playing at?" he demanded of Mafalda. "Our Lord said to take just the one."

Sally Anne stuggled for a moment but the pain in her scalp was too intense for any real movement.

"Let me go," she cried out again. "Don't you know who my family is?"

Then another voice, a male voice. A familiar male voice. She struggled to crane her neck to see the new comer, but it was just another masked figure.

"Hermione! Watch your back!"

Before Hermione could even react to Sally Anne's warning, she felt a hand on the back of her robes. Panic flew through her like electricity; what was going to happen to them? Then, as the figure began speaking, Hermione noted something familiar, like she'd heard the voice before. This person hadn't messed around with their voice, unlike the other; it was definitely a man.

"Get your ruddy hands off of me!" Hermione exclaimed, trying to pull away. "What do you want with Sally Anne? Why are you doing this? Let us go!" She jammed her elbow behind her in an attempt to get away.

"Respect your elders," Mafalda snapped at Adrian, though she was grateful for him taking care of the bricks for her. "Don't use that tone with me, especially when you're late."

"And I am just taking the one, see?" She gave the hand that was holding Sally Anne's hair a shake. "This other one just got in the way and started chucking bricks left and right."

She sighed, looking back over at Sally Anne. "Of course we know who your family are. That's part of the reason we're taking you. Now stop struggling or I'll be forced to make things very unpleasant for you."

"Take care of Granger," she ordered Adrian, turning his way again. "She's of no use to us."

Adrian glared uselessly through his mask but bit his tongue. He hadn't worked much with Mafalda, and although she was no Bellatrix, he knew she was stronger than himself.

He glanced thoughtfully at Hermione as she struggled in his grasp. "We could have some fun with the mudblood. Teach her not to interfere with business that doesn't concern her." He pushed his wand none to gently to the side of her neck. "Especially since she's even more Muggle than usual."

Hermione's eyes widened in fear. Take care of Granger was ringing through her head, and for a moment she was sure there was a good chance she was going to be killed. She continued struggling to get free until she felt a jab at her neck, but tried not to wince or show any emotion. What were they going to do with her? And what were they going to do with Sally Anne?

"Why are you doing this?" Hermione was about to continued speaking when she paused as she realized something. "You took Hannah too...didn't you?" Horror and panic flew through her and she started struggling again. "Let us go!"

"Those aren't our orders," Mafalda frowned behind her mask. She wasn't sure how Rodolphus would feel about them playing around with Granger, and she didn't really want to risk making him angry with her. But she did want to make the girl suffer, even just a little... Ah well. If Rodolphus got too angry, she'd just blame it on the boy.

"Took you that long to figure that out? Maybe you're not as bright as I thought," her voice was amused as she looked back to Hermione. "I suppose it would be all right to teach her a little lesson..."

Adrian grinned. It would be beautiful to watch Hermione get what was coming to her. He grabbed her other arm in an attempt to hold her rigidly in place. "Be a good girl now and don't fight. You know this is for your own good. Think of it as punishment for the fact that you'll be scurrying off to the authorities...if you can walk at all."
--------------------------
Sally Anne closed her eyes and prayed that with her captor's sudden interest in Hermione, she might be able to get away and...and what? They were both powerless without their magic. Even if she could wrest the masked character's wand away, the most she could do was snap it and run. And who knows what sort of wandless magic these kinds of people were capable of. She needed to direct attention back to herself and off Hermione. Maybe if things got too crazy or loud they'd just apparate away, leaving Hermione alive to get help.

Bracing herself, she pulled as hard as she could against her captor's grasp while simultaneously swinging her hand around to attempt a good, hard swipe at the person's face.

Inwardly, Hermione was close to begging for them to let her go, but she refused to give them that sort of satisfaction, no matter how much pain she was in or how desperate she became. As her captor grabbed her other arm, she continued struggling and trying to escape.

"I do not deserve this, you prat!" She snapped before she could stop herself. "LET ME GO!" She yelled, unable to prevent one or two silent tears from running down her face. Whatever was going to happen to her, Hermione knew it would be painful, but she had to keep herself from breaking down as much as possible.

In one last attempt, before whatever hex or attack was headed her way, she took her foot (thankfully she had heels on) and shot it behind her, hoping to get at least one hit at the person holding her.

Mafalda sneered as Hermione tried and failed to kick Adrian off of her. Cheeky girl; she'd show her her place. She cast a spell to immobilize Sally Anne so she could give her full attention to torturing Hermione. With Adrian's help, she managed to rough the girl up pretty well. By the time she decided it was time to go Hermione was covered in several cuts on her arms, chest, and legs, a bloody lip, and a bruise around her left eye that was going to turn into some amazing colors before it faded away. She knocked her to the ground, took hold of Sally Anne again, and quickly disappeared with Adrian. Hopefully Rodolphus wouldn't be too upset she'd gotten carried away...
