Who: Connor and Selene
What: We're off to see the wizard--I mean, witch
When: Late afternoon, Day 22
Where: Out and about, nearest landmark would be the clock tower
Status: Active
Rating: ...PG-13 for potential zombieness?

Oh, Connor could hear Andy now. Which was pretty impressive considering he'd only heard his post-puberty voice speak for the first time yesterday. But he'd be ribbing him about already being attached to the girl who could change her appearance at will. And possibly be getting on to him to 'buddy up' with her. Personally, Connor was a little bit glad Andy had hidden away in the van for the day. Then he wouldn't know Connor was making a great woodland adventure to spend some time with Tonks.

He could hear Chris in his head, too, but his was less, 'hey hey, go for it, buddy!' and more, 'What do you think you're doing?!?' in tone. Something about staying put, no going about finding zombie friends, keeping one's brain in one's head... Minor things, really. And sure, deep down, Connor knew he should listen. Not just zombies, but anything could be out there, really, and it was still dark and actually seemed to be getting darker. But he'd already tried napping and was too stressed out (which, for him? Terrifying!). So when Tonks had mentioned still being in the tower and he was still hanging around bored, and then he'd said something about helping and she'd said something about company... Two plus two equaled four, it was that simple.

Besides. He was a big boy. He could take care of himself. Um. Right?

That didn't mean he went out unprepared. He'd loaded his pockets with rocks, thinking that the rock he'd fired at Luna the day before had at least proved a distraction. He didn't, of course, consider that in an attack, said rocks would weigh him down. Books-wise, Connor was a genius. Street-wise? Not so much. He also grabbed the largest stick he could find, prepared to play a bit of rugby with a zombie head if worst came to worse.

And he really, really hoped worst wouldn't come to worse. Connor's idea of wielding a bat was playing baseball on the Wii.

After a morning of zombie hunting, the vampire was again on her own. She considered both Rose and Remus safe, not having heard otherwise from them - aloud, or through the journals. While she did have a brief thought to go and physically check on the both of them, she trusted her instincts as she trusted the two of them to let her know if they needed her. It was strange, becoming friends with a mortal and a werewolf, but she supposed it was no stranger than the place they found themselves in.

Selene was half wandering, attempting to follow a trail that she wasn't sure was cold or not, when she picked up on the sound of someone walking. The vampire stilled, squinting in the dark as she listened for a moment before taking off to follow it. At first she couldn't be certain it didn't belong to another zombie, but eventually the familiar smell of a living, breathing human came to her on the breeze.

Her brow furrowed slightly as she came up behind him, not recognizing the silhouette in the darkness, though an amused smile crossed her lips when she saw what appeared to be a stick in one of his hands. "That's really not going to do you much good against a zombie." she commented as she neared, a little of her amusement able to be heard in her voice. Granted, she was weaponless at the moment, but she was far from defenseless.

Connor whirled around, surprise evident in his eyes. Where'd she come from? He hadn't heard anything! Stealthy, this one. He should keep an eye on her. But again, this was Connor, not someone with an awful lot of common sense. The man could make a machine that closed a rip in time with the touch of a button on his laptop, but he couldn't think of anything at that moment other than the fact that this woman was wearing leather.

He was so going to hell. Assuming this wasn't hell already. They were all going to die and all Connor could do was think about that old joke where sticks and stones could break your bones but whips and chains... Ah, well. Zombies. Right. She'd mentioned the zombies. Clear head, change subject. He could do that.

"Nah," he admitted, giving the stick in his hand a twirl. "But it might buy me a minute or two of a head start. They're not too fast, it seems. If I can just get away, we're good to go." Besides, if he tried to shoot one, he'd more likely send a stray bullet through some window and off some poor human being.

It was hard for her not to grin a little at his clear surprise at her appearance. Even if the darkness and drizzle made it kind of easy for anyone to be at least a little stealthy. Zombies included.

"No, but they are quite determined. Probably follow you as long as they can smell you." She shrugged a shoulder, eying him briefly. Now that she was slowly starting to encounter others she was trying to keep track of them all. No telling who could become a foe, or a friend, in the future. "You do know it's not really that safe out here, especially when all you've got is a stick." Selene quirked a brow at him at she spoke. "Get a bit sick of being penned up indoors?"

"Who wouldn't?" he replied with a shrug, wondering just why she cared. She couldn't be a zombie, she could speak for one. And looked good. Not like that! She was all put together and not decomposing and stuff. Yeah. Alright, and she did look good, but that hadn't been his point. So if she wasn't trying to eat his brain, why'd she give a damn?

Connor glanced around to make sure she didn't have a band of recruits behind her. Maybe someone had learned to domesticate the zombies? But she seemed to be alone, or at least, as much as the darkness would allow him to see. "I'm aware it isn't. Had an encounter yesterday. Just trying to get to a friend, is all. Pretty sure she's alone right now, safety in numbers and all that." Why did he feel like a kid busted in the hallway between classes without a pass?

Selene did have to smile at his reply. And she didn't judge him any for getting restless; she would have been the same. Brown eyes observed him coolly, and she wondered a moment what he was looking for. Oh, right, not everyone could see as well as she could in the dark. After living among vampires for so long, she had to keep reminding herself that most of the people here likely didn't have as sharp of senses. Although one didn't really need super sharp senses to smell a zombie coming.

"Safety in numbers yet you're out here alone?" Her tone was light, almost teasing if anything. "Maybe I should tag along, two surely fare better than one, right?" The vampire was trying for friendly, even if she wasn't sure she was achieving it. Getting to kill had put her in a good mood, otherwise she might not have even cared, aside from not wanting to have to deal with any more zombies than necessary.

Was she teasing him? Sometimes it was so hard to tell. Connor had spent most of his life trying to tell the difference between good teasing and bad teasing. People who teased because they cared and the ones who teased till it hurt. He studied her carefully, narrowing his eyes a bit as he tried to think.

"You can if you want," he replied, realizing she was probably better than nothing when it came to having back-up in a zombie fight. After all, Luna had been alone yesterday. What if they came in packs? Then speed really would be the only thing saving him. "Don't need a child minder, though. Not that far away, nearly there and what all."

"You're a little too tall to be a child." she replied, smile still tugging at her lips, and that was definitely good teasing. Even if, regardless of his age, he was a child compared to her. But he didn't know that, and he certainly had no way of knowing how much safer he was with her. "I'm Selene, by the way." She offered a hand, knowing she wouldn't feel too terribly cold since she'd fed somewhat recently. Introductions were a good way to be friendly, weren't they? Oh, she was so out of practice with dealing with people other than stuck-up vampires.

Oh, this was Selene! Andy had been right. She really was freakishly hot. Which just made Connor's cheeks turn bright red and he desperately hoped she wouldn't notice in the foggy darkness of the day. Politely, he accepted her hand and gave it a quick squeeze and shake before he averted his eyes and quickly. "I, uh, I'm Connor. And I'm a bit tall, yeah." But not for an adult. Definitely a child, though. "Wasn't a couple of days ago, though," he added with a short laugh, though his eyes quickly darted around the area in case the sound brought his new friends the zombies running.

Her brow furrowed just slightly when she thought she caught him blushing, wondering at the cause, but she didn't say anything about it. "Pleasure to meet you, Connor. Ignoring the whole zombie apocalypse atmosphere of the day." said with a laugh of her own. His comment about the other day made her raise a brow, taking a moment for her to get what he was saying. "Oh! One of the unlucky ones who reverted to childhood, were you?" Selene cocked her head to the side and ran her eyes over him, trying to picture him in miniature.

When her eyes ran over him, Connor blushed harder if it was at all possible. Sheepishly, he rubbed the back of his neck with one hand and kicked at the ground a little. "Not so unlucky," he defended with a chuckle. "Wasn't so bad, really. Stress free, being six again. Nothing to worry about except what your next snack was going to be and whether or not there were monsters under the bed. Well, cot in our case, I guess."

Of course, since then, Connor had learned that there were monsters, though not necessarily under the bed. Monsters and demons and good witches and bad witches galore. But he wouldn't mention that there. Might look a bit like a whiner. "You don't really think it's an apocalypse here, do you? I mean, they'll go away eventually, won't they? The zombies? How many can there possibly be?"

Okay, he was definitely blushing. She fought against a smile and failed. How... cute. Was that the word she was looking for? She would have to think it over later. "Well, I wouldn't wish to be that young again, but I'm glad to hear it wasn't so bad. There have certainly been worse things done around here." Present day included. And speaking of...

"Oh, I'm sure there aren't too many. Least not now that some have been killed off. The others will end up that way sooner or later." It was just a matter of whether they killed them or the people in charge decided they had seen enough.

Maybe she had a point. Nothing seemed to last too long in this place. Unfortunately, that nothing seemed to include death. Which he really kind of wanted to figure out. If he could get a hold of one of the corpses, maybe... One without too many personal ties, of course. Oh, that was just a disgusting thought. He should not have even been having it. He wouldn't blame Sam for telling him off, especially then. There those poor people had died and now Connor longed to poke and prod at them to see what made them move.

Still, he considered what she'd said. "What if they make more? I've no idea how many people have died in this place, I've only been here a few days. The day before I was kid-ified." Connor-ism, trademark it. "I keep hearing horror stories, but I haven't known anyone yet who... You know." Well, not here. Back home he had his share.

"From what I've heard, they don't tend to repeat things, but honestly? I don't think we've any way of knowing what might come next." Aside from the full moon, apparently, but Selene was still somewhat undecided on that. Did those in charge of this place really have any reason to keep their word to Tonks that it would be another week until the full moon? Although... it couldn't entirely be a lie because if that were the case, she would have had to deal with a furry Remus by now. "And nor I. They do seem to like playing around with death, though, now that I think of it. Few days ago they had screens up all around this place broadcasting supposed deaths of people who had disappeared for the day, but come the next everyone was alive and accounted for." The vampire shrugged her shoulders. "I think they just like playing God."

"But how?" Connor blurted, as if she knew the answer. "How can someone bring anyone back to life? Video screens... Well, that might make some sense, good enough graphic imagery can capture our every movement, copy it, and display it for others to see. But this?" he asked, waving a hand around. "This shouldn't even be possible. You know they had to be the ones to touch the weather. It's too ironic that it's pitch black all day long when our lives are in danger." And yet they were standing out there chatting. Smart, Connor! And he was babbling to a complete stranger. Smart times two! Oh, he was really adding them up today. "And bringing dead people back to life? Not even God Himself would do that, how can they?" Of course, he wasn't entirely sure what God could do. If Chris was an angel, maybe he had that sort of knowledge, but he didn't know yet.

The vampire's brow furrowed and her head tilted slightly to the side as the young man went off on a small tangent. Absently she was listening for the sounds of zombies that might be attracted to their noise and motions and overall state of being alive, but Selene was primarily paying attention. For some reason the outburst made her think of her own to Kraven when she swore she heard the sounds of a lycan den in the sewers. Of course, Kraven had in fact known about the lycans, even if not the numbers that Lucian had raised and prepared for a last bloody battle. God, that all felt like a lifetime ago.

"I don't know." she finally replied, voice rather calm. "I think we've all seen things that shouldn't be possible but somehow are. This place excluded. I don't know how any of us got here, or why, and I certainly don't know how zombies are even possible." And she knew a thing or two about the undead. Taking a step closer, she reached out to put a hand on Connor's shoulder, looking him in the eye. "Right now, I think the important thing to focus on is staying alive. Tomorrow, with any luck, the sun will rise again and the walking undead will be gone, and then we can worry about the how and the why." Selene wasn't really holding her breath on the luck part, but she knew it sounded good.

Connor wasn't expecting comfort from the pretty woman. Perhaps he'd merely ranted because she was the first person he thought he could rant to. She seemed knowing, but able to listen. As great as Chris was, Connor knew he'd seen his own share of misery; the fact that it was hard to get his friend to smile was proof of that. And Andy... Andy was like a light switch, one and off at will. This Selene, he had no actual attachment to her. If he looked like a fool, he could walk away and potentially never see her again. Well...maybe he wouldn't have a choice, he had no idea what the general population of this place consisted of. But he wouldn't have to bunk down in the evenings with her, either.

Though that didn't sound so awful either.

But her words were soothing and he took a deep breath before nodding. "Right. Then again, isn't that the goal in this place every day? Stay alive?" His laugh was quiet and strained, but at least it existed. "To be honest, I'd kind of love to see the technology they have running this place. Their systems must be massive."

She smiled, glad to see he seemed to be settling down a little, and she gave a slight nod as well at his words. "Too true." Letting her hand drop back down to her side, a thoughtful look came to her face, lips pursing briefly before speaking. "I hadn't yet thought of it that way but I suppose you've got a point. There has to be some serious power at work to pull off what they've been doing, not accounting for how they manage to bring us here. Probably some sort of survelliance system too, as much as I hate to think about it." Selene frowned at that, and fought the urge to look around for hidden cameras rather than zombies.

"Well think about it," he considered out loud, as much to himself as to her. "There has to be something making these journals connect. We have aliens here, that Spock guy and the Sigma kid." As Connor had no way of knowing that the little Sigma he'd talked to on the day they'd been children was the same man who'd berated him as an adult on his very first day. "Maybe it's something from one of their planets. Or some form of magic, we've got that going on here, too. Hell, it could just be some really advanced technology. I couldn't come up with it, not without some work, but it can't be impossible, it'd be sort of like an internet messaging system, if you will. Just on paper."

Sorry, Selene, but once Connor hit a subject he was interested in? He could be there for days. And potential new technology most definitely interested him.

As he started on the vampire cocked her head to the side, looking at him almost curiously at first. He had to be from her time, or something similar to the world she came from, surely. Because his tangent was making her think of some of the vampires that had been her friends, who weren't necessarily on the front lines with her but who made the shiny toys that gave them the edge against the lycans. There was a quiet brilliance in there, Selene could sense it. "What do you do, Connor, where you come from?"

The way she asked caused Connor to blush a bit more, looking away bashfully. "Oh. I uh--I'm sort of into zoology." Cryptozoology more like, but more than enough people knew about the ARC. If he ever got back and they remembered, he was in serious trouble with Jenny and Lester. "I do a lot of the behind the scenes stuff. The uh...invention creation, I guess you'd say. Software programming, thingamajig making... You know." Because obviously, that was the technical term. But how could he say 'anomaly detector' and not go into detail? Erm, well, he couldn't. "Just the little odds and ends my team needs."

[info]bulletsandblood

And there was that blush again. She really didn't think men did that much, but she was a centuries old vampire; what did she know about gender habits and what was socially acceptable anymore? "How in the world does zoology relate to..." She trailed off as he elaborated and while it seemed a little to her like he was being somewhat evasive, she was too curious to have a need to call him on it. That didn't mean she might not bring it up at a later date though.

A smile that bordered on fond crossed her lips. "The brains behind the brawn?" And there wasn't a lick of teasing in her voice this time. "I can't say I've invented a thing in my life but I am quite competent when it comes to modern technology." Assuming they came from similar times. But it was something she was rather proud of, considering the typical stereotypes about vampires as being rooted in the past and almost afraid of technology. "Though perhaps not as competent as you, if you're building and inventing things." Don't be too shocked, Connor, but there was a hint of admiration in the gorgeous vampire's tone as that warm smile lingered on her lips.

"Sort of, yeah," he admitted, but he was smiling. Sometimes he could be too cocky, and admittedly, sometimes he was too modest. But he thought he had a right to be proud; for a long time he'd felt like a useless part of the team and he was ever so slowly moving up to become something important. Cutter had even trusted him at the very end, put him in charge of something far more important than the dinosaur database or even the anomaly detector. He'd trusted him with the team.

But the way the beautiful woman had said 'modern' technology threw him off a bit. His eyebrows lifted and Connor studied her for a moment. "As opposed to what, the inner workings of the telegraph?" he teased. "Maybe Bell's first phone system? I might be able to figure those out, given some time. And time travel." Though that last bit was said jokingly, he knew it wasn't as far a cry as some might've once thought.

"Well, not everyone uses computers and the like." Or hi-tech weaponry, but that probably wasn't ideal to bring up. Particularly as she realized that her phrasing may not have been the best. "Assuming we both come from similar times. It's the twenty-first century last I knew." The vampire shrugged a shoulder, as this place clearly lagged behind the times in one way or another.

"Sorry," Connor blurted immediately, apologetically. "I keep forgetting people are from so many different times here. I'm from the twenty-first, too. Two thousand and nine, to be exact." He grinned again, just as sheepishly, and shrugged. "Yeah... Computers, mostly, I've been dabbling with them since I was a kid. My dad thought I should focus on that, make a living off of it. Should've heard him when I told him I wanted to study paleontology instead."

It hadn't gone well, and had just sparked yet another fight in the Temple household. But by his late teens, Connor was used to that. And he'd had Duncan, and Tom, too. A thought which would've brought a melancholy look to his face were he not busy trying to stay alive in the big glass box...thing.

She smiled, what she hoped was a reassuring sort. "It's alright. I'm having a harder time dealing with the talk of people being from other planets than different points of time." But she supposed living through more than a few centuries could have something to do with that. And it was a relief to hear that they came from the same time period. "Sounds like I'm just a few years behind you." Selene almost remarked that computers didn't exist when she was a child but managed to catch herself. Even if she were truly as old as she appeared, computers had been around in some form.

Connor had to laugh at that, even if the sound was quiet and weak. No sense in giving the zombies a great big audible target to go after. "Given some of the things I used to study and read online, people from other planets can't surprise me too much. Always hoped there'd be life on other planets. Star Wars was too good to be a complete lie." His grin was extra sheepish at that point. "No, the one that's throwing me for a loop is the magic. Met two people, entirely different worlds, it seems, but both do magic. It's the craziest, most wonderful thing I've ever seen."

The young man had a rather endearing quality to him, even if it wasn't something Selene was at all used to. It was something that actually frustrated part of her, as the predator/hunter in her had decided that he would be easy prey and the sort that needed looking after. Though admittedly being mortal had immediately put him in the less dangerous column in her mind.

Such thoughts were pushed to the side as he mentioned magic and she was again giving him a curious look, brows raising. "Magic? Like storybook fantasy magic?" Ye gods, was there anything familiar to her in this place? The vampire was starting to feel just a tad overwhelmed.

"Yeeeep," Connor drew out, giving the 'p' a little pop at the end. "Honest to goodness storybook magic. Witches and wizards and the like. Not wicked witches," he added quickly. Now, honestly. Where else would he have to defend his new friends that way? "No, they're good. Good sorts of magic." Though he said it, it was mostly just assumed. He trusted both Chris and Tonks, and if they'd wanted to do anything terrible to him, or to anyone else in this place, they'd have already done it. At least, he thought so.

Of course, he also didn't realize he was talking to someone who might consider him a tasty treat. Minor details. She hadn't attacked yet, so again, Connor assumed she wouldn't. Silly mortal.

"And I thought things were complicated enough where I come from." Her fingers pressed to her temples briefly, as if fighting off a headache, then she shook her head. "Now are you sure they're good, or just good to you? Plenty of people hide their true colors beneath what they want you to see." At least, it was easier to think that, then that she had been so willing to trust that it had been easy to lie to her. No one liked to think they were gullible. "Oh, I suppose really, in this place it doesn't matter. In these kinds of conditions it's hard to predict how anyone will act."

Connor considered, remembering how easily Chris had dealt with the zombie. Well. Easy was a bit relative when handling the undead, wasn't it? But it was something, at least. But he'd done that to protect the living, so... "I'm relatively sure they're good," he confirmed, giving a short nod. "I'm not saying they probably couldn't kick some arse if they wanted to," he added with a small chuckle. "But I doubt they do." He looked her over for a long moment and then gave a slight tilt of his lips in a crooked sort of smile. "Then, I get the feeling you already know a thing or two about that. Kicking arse, taking names, that whole lot?" Despite the fact that Andy was right about how good she looked, she also looked like she could lay him out flat and do him in if the urge struck her. And yet he kept on talking to her. Common sense...

She couldn't help but smile as he gave his assessment of these people he knew. At least he seemed to consider her words, which was more than some would do when they were convinced of something. Then her smile twisted into more of a grin when he commented on her. He wasn't wrong, at least. "That feeling of yours would be right. Was it the leather that gave it away?" she asked with a laugh, and if Connor looked close he just might notice the sharper points to her canines than was normal. Granted, her fangs were retracted, but they never dulled to take on the appearance of normal teeth. Absently, Selene realized he might have noticed the empty holsters on her hips, but her trenchcoat usually did a pretty good job of hiding those from view. He was perceptive, she had to give him that. Perhaps more than she first thought.

"Oh, yeah," he confirmed, but his tone was playful. Truth was, there were all sorts of leather jokes running through his head. Unfortunately, most were best saved for people he knew much better than this woman he'd only just met. "Definitely the leather. A woman in leather could probably whip me if she wanted." Okay, well, maybe one would slip out. Oops. But he gave another slight grin and shrugged. "You have an air to you. Confident. My best mate...she's got the same one. She actually does kickboxing, and I'd definitely not take her on in a fight. Same sort of thing with you."

If Selene weren't feeling so generous, he'd basically just put himself on the line. Why yes, he was somewhat vulnerable and not a very good fighter. Give him ten minutes and a few tools, he could put together a weapon to do the pretty vampire in. But alone, in this darkened city, with only his bare hands, a stick, and a few rocks? He didn't stand a chance.

Her grin turned into a smirk easily, the look on her own face as playful as his tone. The vampire may have been old but she wasn't oblivious; she caught the double-meaning to his words, and wagered he meant her to. "Guess it's good for you that's not my style, hmm?" she replied, smirk lingering a few moments. And while Selene may not have preened at his assessment of her, her ego was pleased by it. With the way the world she knew had been shaken with all the revelations and deaths, it was reassuring to know her moments of weakness during those nights shortly before she showed up in this place hadn't seemed to leave a mark on her. "Well, I don't think fighting is something you and I will have to worry about. Unless any zombies cross our path, and if that happens just leave it to me."
