Entry tags:!shelved, connor temple, day 22, location: in town, selene

Who: Connor and Selene
What: We're off to see the wizard--I mean, witch
When: Late afternoon, Day 22
Where: Out and about, nearest landmark would be the clock tower
Status: Active
Rating: ...PG-13 for potential zombieness?

Oh, Connor could hear Andy now. Which was pretty impressive considering he'd only heard his post-puberty voice speak for the first time yesterday. But he'd be ribbing him about already being attached to the girl who could change her appearance at will. And possibly be getting on to him to 'buddy up' with her. Personally, Connor was a little bit glad Andy had hidden away in the van for the day. Then he wouldn't know Connor was making a great woodland adventure to spend some time with Tonks.

He could hear Chris in his head, too, but his was less, 'hey hey, go for it, buddy!' and more, 'What do you think you're doing?!?' in tone. Something about staying put, no going about finding zombie friends, keeping one's brain in one's head... Minor things, really. And sure, deep down, Connor knew he should listen. Not just zombies, but anything could be out there, really, and it was still dark and actually seemed to be getting darker. But he'd already tried napping and was too stressed out (which, for him? Terrifying!). So when Tonks had mentioned still being in the tower and he was still hanging around bored, and then he'd said something about helping and she'd said something about company... Two plus two equaled four, it was that simple.

Besides. He was a big boy. He could take care of himself. Um. Right?

That didn't mean he went out unprepared. He'd loaded his pockets with rocks, thinking that the rock he'd fired at Luna the day before had at least proved a distraction. He didn't, of course, consider that in an attack, said rocks would weigh him down. Books-wise, Connor was a genius. Street-wise? Not so much. He also grabbed the largest stick he could find, prepared to play a bit of rugby with a zombie head if worst came to worse.

And he really, really hoped worst wouldn't come to worse. Connor's idea of wielding a bat was playing baseball on the Wii.

She smiled, what she hoped was a reassuring sort. "It's alright. I'm having a harder time dealing with the talk of people being from other planets than different points of time." But she supposed living through more than a few centuries could have something to do with that. And it was a relief to hear that they came from the same time period. "Sounds like I'm just a few years behind you." Selene almost remarked that computers didn't exist when she was a child but managed to catch herself. Even if she were truly as old as she appeared, computers had been around in some form.

Connor had to laugh at that, even if the sound was quiet and weak. No sense in giving the zombies a great big audible target to go after. "Given some of the things I used to study and read online, people from other planets can't surprise me too much. Always hoped there'd be life on other planets. Star Wars was too good to be a complete lie." His grin was extra sheepish at that point. "No, the one that's throwing me for a loop is the magic. Met two people, entirely different worlds, it seems, but both do magic. It's the craziest, most wonderful thing I've ever seen."

The young man had a rather endearing quality to him, even if it wasn't something Selene was at all used to. It was something that actually frustrated part of her, as the predator/hunter in her had decided that he would be easy prey and the sort that needed looking after. Though admittedly being mortal had immediately put him in the less dangerous column in her mind.

Such thoughts were pushed to the side as he mentioned magic and she was again giving him a curious look, brows raising. "Magic? Like storybook fantasy magic?" Ye gods, was there anything familiar to her in this place? The vampire was starting to feel just a tad overwhelmed.

"Yeeeep," Connor drew out, giving the 'p' a little pop at the end. "Honest to goodness storybook magic. Witches and wizards and the like. Not wicked witches," he added quickly. Now, honestly. Where else would he have to defend his new friends that way? "No, they're good. Good sorts of magic." Though he said it, it was mostly just assumed. He trusted both Chris and Tonks, and if they'd wanted to do anything terrible to him, or to anyone else in this place, they'd have already done it. At least, he thought so.

Of course, he also didn't realize he was talking to someone who might consider him a tasty treat. Minor details. She hadn't attacked yet, so again, Connor assumed she wouldn't. Silly mortal.

"And I thought things were complicated enough where I come from." Her fingers pressed to her temples briefly, as if fighting off a headache, then she shook her head. "Now are you sure they're good, or just good to you? Plenty of people hide their true colors beneath what they want you to see." At least, it was easier to think that, then that she had been so willing to trust that it had been easy to lie to her. No one liked to think they were gullible. "Oh, I suppose really, in this place it doesn't matter. In these kinds of conditions it's hard to predict how anyone will act."

Connor considered, remembering how easily Chris had dealt with the zombie. Well. Easy was a bit relative when handling the undead, wasn't it? But it was something, at least. But he'd done that to protect the living, so... "I'm relatively sure they're good," he confirmed, giving a short nod. "I'm not saying they probably couldn't kick some arse if they wanted to," he added with a small chuckle. "But I doubt they do." He looked her over for a long moment and then gave a slight tilt of his lips in a crooked sort of smile. "Then, I get the feeling you already know a thing or two about that. Kicking arse, taking names, that whole lot?" Despite the fact that Andy was right about how good she looked, she also looked like she could lay him out flat and do him in if the urge struck her. And yet he kept on talking to her. Common sense...

She couldn't help but smile as he gave his assessment of these people he knew. At least he seemed to consider her words, which was more than some would do when they were convinced of something. Then her smile twisted into more of a grin when he commented on her. He wasn't wrong, at least. "That feeling of yours would be right. Was it the leather that gave it away?" she asked with a laugh, and if Connor looked close he just might notice the sharper points to her canines than was normal. Granted, her fangs were retracted, but they never dulled to take on the appearance of normal teeth. Absently, Selene realized he might have noticed the empty holsters on her hips, but her trenchcoat usually did a pretty good job of hiding those from view. He was perceptive, she had to give him that. Perhaps more than she first thought.

"Oh, yeah," he confirmed, but his tone was playful. Truth was, there were all sorts of leather jokes running through his head. Unfortunately, most were best saved for people he knew much better than this woman he'd only just met. "Definitely the leather. A woman in leather could probably whip me if she wanted." Okay, well, maybe one would slip out. Oops. But he gave another slight grin and shrugged. "You have an air to you. Confident. My best mate...she's got the same one. She actually does kickboxing, and I'd definitely not take her on in a fight. Same sort of thing with you."

If Selene weren't feeling so generous, he'd basically just put himself on the line. Why yes, he was somewhat vulnerable and not a very good fighter. Give him ten minutes and a few tools, he could put together a weapon to do the pretty vampire in. But alone, in this darkened city, with only his bare hands, a stick, and a few rocks? He didn't stand a chance.

Her grin turned into a smirk easily, the look on her own face as playful as his tone. The vampire may have been old but she wasn't oblivious; she caught the double-meaning to his words, and wagered he meant her to. "Guess it's good for you that's not my style, hmm?" she replied, smirk lingering a few moments. And while Selene may not have preened at his assessment of her, her ego was pleased by it. With the way the world she knew had been shaken with all the revelations and deaths, it was reassuring to know her moments of weakness during those nights shortly before she showed up in this place hadn't seemed to leave a mark on her. "Well, I don't think fighting is something you and I will have to worry about. Unless any zombies cross our path, and if that happens just leave it to me."
