Rating: ...PG-13 for potential zombieness?

Oh, Connor could hear Andy now. Which was pretty impressive considering he'd only heard his post-puberty voice speak for the first time yesterday. But he'd be ribbing him about already being attached to the girl who could change her appearance at will. And possibly be getting on to him to 'buddy up' with her. Personally, Connor was a little bit glad Andy had hidden away in the van for the day. Then he wouldn't know Connor was making a great woodland adventure to spend some time with Tonks.

He could hear Chris in his head, too, but his was less, 'hey hey, go for it, buddy!' and more, 'What do you think you're doing?!?' in tone. Something about staying put, no going about finding zombie friends, keeping one's brain in one's head... Minor things, really. And sure, deep down, Connor knew he should listen. Not just zombies, but anything could be out there, really, and it was still dark and actually seemed to be getting darker. But he'd already tried napping and was too stressed out (which, for him? Terrifying!). So when Tonks had mentioned still being in the tower and he was still hanging around bored, and then he'd said something about helping and she'd said something about company... Two plus two equaled four, it was that simple.

Besides. He was a big boy. He could take care of himself. Um. Right?

That didn't mean he went out unprepared. He'd loaded his pockets with rocks, thinking that the rock he'd fired at Luna the day before had at least proved a distraction. He didn't, of course, consider that in an attack, said rocks would weigh him down. Books-wise, Connor was a genius. Street-wise? Not so much. He also grabbed the largest stick he could find, prepared to play a bit of rugby with a zombie head if worst came to worse.

And he really, really hoped worst wouldn't come to worse. Connor's idea of wielding a bat was playing baseball on the Wii.

"But how?" Connor blurted, as if she knew the answer. "How can someone bring anyone back to life? Video screens... Well, that might make some sense, good enough graphic imagery can capture our every movement, copy it, and display it for others to see. But this?" he asked, waving a hand around. "This shouldn't even be possible. You know they had to be the ones to touch the weather. It's too ironic that it's pitch black all day long when our lives are in danger." And yet they were standing out there chatting. Smart, Connor! And he was babbling to a complete stranger. Smart times two! Oh, he was really adding them up today. "And bringing dead people back to life? Not even God Himself would do that, how can they?" Of course, he wasn't entirely sure what God could do. If Chris was an angel, maybe he had that sort of knowledge, but he didn't know yet.

The vampire's brow furrowed and her head tilted slightly to the side as the young man went off on a small tangent. Absently she was listening for the sounds of zombies that might be attracted to their noise and motions and overall state of being alive, but Selene was primarily paying attention. For some reason the outburst made her think of her own to Kraven when she swore she heard the sounds of a lycan den in the sewers. Of course, Kraven had in fact known about the lycans, even if not the numbers that Lucian had raised and prepared for a last bloody battle. God, that all felt like a lifetime ago.

"I don't know." she finally replied, voice rather calm. "I think we've all seen things that shouldn't be possible but somehow are. This place excluded. I don't know how any of us got here, or why, and I certainly don't know how zombies are even possible." And she knew a thing or two about the undead. Taking a step closer, she reached out to put a hand on Connor's shoulder, looking him in the eye. "Right now, I think the important thing to focus on is staying alive. Tomorrow, with any luck, the sun will rise again and the walking undead will be gone, and then we can worry about the how and the why." Selene wasn't really holding her breath on the luck part, but she knew it sounded good.

Connor wasn't expecting comfort from the pretty woman. Perhaps he'd merely ranted because she was the first person he thought he could rant to. She seemed knowing, but able to listen. As great as Chris was, Connor knew he'd seen his own share of misery; the fact that it was hard to get his friend to smile was proof of that. And Andy... Andy was like a light switch, one and off at will. This Selene, he had no actual attachment to her. If he looked like a fool, he could walk away and potentially never see her again. Well...maybe he wouldn't have a choice, he had no idea what the general population of this place consisted of. But he wouldn't have to bunk down in the evenings with her, either.

Though that didn't sound so awful either.

But her words were soothing and he took a deep breath before nodding. "Right. Then again, isn't that the goal in this place every day? Stay alive?" His laugh was quiet and strained, but at least it existed. "To be honest, I'd kind of love to see the technology they have running this place. Their systems must be massive."

She smiled, glad to see he seemed to be settling down a little, and she gave a slight nod as well at his words. "Too true." Letting her hand drop back down to her side, a thoughtful look came to her face, lips pursing briefly before speaking. "I hadn't yet thought of it that way but I suppose you've got a point. There has to be some serious power at work to pull off what they've been doing, not accounting for how they manage to bring us here. Probably some sort of survelliance system too, as much as I hate to think about it." Selene frowned at that, and fought the urge to look around for hidden cameras rather than zombies.

"Well think about it," he considered out loud, as much to himself as to her. "There has to be something making these journals connect. We have aliens here, that Spock guy and the Sigma kid." As Connor had no way of knowing that the little Sigma he'd talked to on the day they'd been children was the same man who'd berated him as an adult on his very first day. "Maybe it's something from one of their planets. Or some form of magic, we've got that going on here, too. Hell, it could just be some really advanced technology. I couldn't come up with it, not without some work, but it can't be impossible, it'd be sort of like an internet messaging system, if you will. Just on paper."

Sorry, Selene, but once Connor hit a subject he was interested in? He could be there for days. And potential new technology most definitely interested him.
