So people/statues/pictures keep singing "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus, which is... a choice but fine. It's making everything feel real goth.
I don't wanna think about Bela Lugosi, so story time: when the Farmer's Almanac was a thing, you know, back when like only 45% of Vallo's population were considered actual people by the US, journalists and writers decided to sex it up a little and took the names for full moons from the beliefs of various native tribes. Because they didn't give a single honey-roasted fuck about authenticity, they basically picked names at random. A lot of moon-related names we know today came from a mishmash of Algonquin and Cherokee tribes, translated into English because see above regarding not giving a single honey-roasted fuck. That's why the full moon happening next week is sometimes called the Full Snow Moon, Bone Moon, Hunger Moon or "Moon When the Trees Crack from Cold" depending upon where you're getting your info from - different tribes had different names for things because they weren't homogenous, and Steve from Nat Geo thought that one name sounded cooler than Kevin from Weather Channel did.
The Cree (me) name their moons based upon what animal is the most active. Not many animals are running around in February, so it's just called "The Great Moon" (lazy, ancestors) or kisipisim. March's moon is called the Eagle Moon, or migisupizum (100% looked up how to spell that shit). Because you people are pervs, the moon to watch out for is nimitahamowipisim, or the moon moose fuck by, which weirdly has never made it to one of your New Agey calendars.
Moment of culture, from me to you. Enjoy it. Bela Lugosi's still dead, so, bummer.
