Lights, you have a massive city with some mid-level tech and you still managed to ground everyone. Not even a little space travel. What do any of you even do for fun when you're stuck here?

You didn't lead with that! You put reading as fun before sentient spaceship. I assumed it wasn't as grand in the hierarchy of things and I've been on a lot of spaceships.

That seems like a choice by the magic, don't you think? Keep some, send back the others. How do you appeal to it?

It's cheap opening with that. Like namedropping first thing.

Your guess is as good as ours. I've been here nearly 3 years and we haven't figured out a source of all this or anything that it wants. It feels more chaotic than that.

Oh, come on. You should always namedrop, instead of bothering with all the coyness.

Wait, wait. Three years? Lights, the people in the office made it seem like this was all a brief hiccup.

Something tells me subtlety is lost on you.

Sorry. If it helps, some people come and go a lot faster than that. Personally, I'd rather stay.

It does get suggested to me often, but I just don't see the point.

You're only saying that you'd rather stay because you have people here. Am I right?

It shows patience and consideration. And it usually gets better results than kicking verbal doors down.

Not only but yes. I have a life here and a future that I wouldn't give up for anything.

I wouldn't say better results, only different ones. I quite like verbally kicking doors down. No one expects it.

You're making this all sound very domestic for someone who has been to space. Did you not like it? Do you not want to go back?

No one expects it the first time.

I love space. I hope to go back some day. But if I had to choose space or my life here, there'd be no contest. Let me guess. You're not big on domestic.

How many times do you think I need?

I consider being domestic requiring another person, and I've been alone for a while. Until You could say I don't have much of an opinion on it.

To annoy people? I didn't really think there was a limit on that kind of thing.

Is that by choice or circumstance?

You might be right, but I'm going to disagree just because.

A little of both, and depends on the day. Today is definitely more circumstantial.

I've known you all of five minutes and I'm not at all surprised.

In that case, I'm sorry to hear that. If it helps, people tend to come along at different times. It took a bit, but my husband and our friend showed up eventually.

That might be a new record for me.

See, that's the part that I'm not so sure about. I'd rather go back than have people I know come here, be stuck, and not have their well-deserved freedom. Do they know that we're gone? Because that might be a problem.

That's understandable too. And unselfish. But no, they don't know you're gone. We're in both places at once, as far as we can tell from everyone who has shown up from the same worlds.

I don't know if that's better or worse? I'm going with better. Don't want to get bitter too soon!

Softie.

But also, kicking doors down verbally and otherwise has a certain appeal. Admit it.

It only appeals to me when I need to get to someone I care about and I don't have time for diplomacy. And when you do it.

Are you encouraging me to break more rules? Cause that's the vibe I'm getting from this.
