There's something really lovely about walking around at night to look at all the Christmas lights. It's so peaceful, quiet. Vallo seems to be in the spirit of this time of year with so many homes decorated. I do hope you're all enjoying the holiday. What's your favorite thing about it or a favorite tradition?

Being home is a pretty good tradition.

You must be a Vallo native then?

The opposite. Is being new here the opposite of being a native? Whatever, I’m going with it.

Yes, it's the opposite. You've recently arrived and weren't born here. Either way home is where the heart is as the old saying goes, so I guess doesn't matter where you call home.

I’ve never been away from home for Christmas so there goes that tradition.

This is your new "home" and you can start the tradition here or other new traditions.

True. I must say I don't like not being able to leave, but we have to make the best of things.

Perhaps. There are those who have "everything". Or those who spend the holidays alone. Or choose to donate the money they would spend of gifts.

They're breathtaking, and in so many colors! I've been going out to enjoy them nearly every night.

I do hope the homeowners don't mind. I sometimes linger a bit.

They really are. I have as well. I usually go out later than most, but I enjoy the beauty and peace. I linger as well. I don't think they mind. They realize people enjoy them. Do they celebrate Christmas with lights and everything where you're from?

Nothing quite like this. Mostly, you'll only see celebrations of this scale in Luca, or at the beginning of a Calm.

But we've plenty of smaller traditions that, while modest, are memorable in their own way.

What is a calm?

Somehow I think the smaller celebrations and traditions are better. More meaningful if you know what I mean. When I was a child it was just as exciting to bring in the tree and see it trimmed. I looked forward to it every year. And I may be in the minority but I always enjoyed Christmas carolers.

A Calm is what follows the fall of Sin. When a summoner defeats it, Spira is allowed some length of peace before Sin returns.

We don't have Christmas back home, but I wish we did. It feels so cozy, and the decorations are beautiful. Do people not usually like carolers? I saw some yesterday. They sounded lovely, and were very patient with my questions.

I have not heard of any of that. It sounds intense. My apologies if that sounds strange or rude. It's not my intent. But celebrating peace is always a good thing.

It's a beautiful holiday. Cozy, filled with treats, music, decorations and all the traditions old and new. I've come across my fair share of those who don't like Christmas music and think carolers are boring. I have not come across carolers here, but maybe I will soon.

I was small when the last Calm began. It took my breath away. And please, don't worry! I'm not offended. With the way of this place, I think it's understandable. There's so many different walks of life here.

Despite everything, I feel lucky to be able to experience it.

How long does the Calm usually last? Oh good, that's the last thing I'd want to do. Yes, there are so many different "people" here. It's fascinating and enlightening. I've certainly come across some interesting people.

Do you have other family or friends here?

It varies, and no one can ever be sure until Sin remerges. The previous one lasted a year. Before being brought here, I had hoped my own might be longer.

No. If they were, we would have found one another already. What about you?

I would take a year of peace in the world. While it's peaceful for the most part here, the rest of the world is a different story.

No, I have no family or friends here. Most are long passed on. It's mostly been just be for a long time.

I suppose it depends on what you're seeking refuge from. But yes, any amount should be cherished. In the case of my world, no one takes it for granted.

I'm sorry. That must be lone There's kindness here at least. Besides, in this place, just about anything is possible, isn't it?

Perhaps. I only wish the world at large were at peace. I wonder if that will ever happen. I would hope if that happen it would be cherished and kept.

Don't apologize. We each have our own path and story. I haven't met many here. I've been here about a month and a half. Not being able to go out during the day affects meeting people and being who I am. I keep hearing almost anything is possible here.

We do, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be shared along the way. At least, that's how I feel.

You have to stay inside during the day? Why is that?

Many call them the walking dead. Though there are different types I've learned since coming here. Basically I'm immortal. My sire (the vampire who made me) drained me then I drank from him and was given the "dark gift" as I was told. I don't breath. I can' eat food or drink anything. I survive on blood. But don't worry there is a blood bank here where I get blood.

My goodness...

Did you do it for eternal life? I guess in the grand scheme, what's forsaken doesn't seem like a lot, but I can't even imagine.

I've never met someone who didn't know what a vampire was. Then again where I'm from most people don't believe we're real. More myth, folklore and characters in movies and books.

No, I didn't. At the time I was dealing with great tragedy and life held no meaning for me. I did many dangerous and stupid things hoping my life would end. It was a vampire who found me, knew my pain and said he could take it away, give me a new life. I was at the threshold of death when he asked me if I wanted it. I accepted and have been a vampire since.

Forsaken? What do you mean? I don't think many can imagine it.

In Spira, the only thing that comes close is an unsent, though they don't need any sort of sustenance to carry on.

I mean, giving up sunlight, food, having to drink blood. They might seem like small sacrifices in comparison to longevity, but I don't know that I could do it. I suppose it would sound like a gift however, if you were suffering so terribly. Like being reborn.

If you don't mind my asking... did it bring you any kind of relief?

At the time anything seemed better than how I currently felt emotionally and physically. It is a dark gift.

There were times it brought relief, happiness, but it also brought more sorrow, loss, regret and loneliness among other things. Living forever sounds so appealing to many, but when you really think about it, perhaps not.

Hello Yuna. I was wondering if you had plans Christmas evening. I know we've never met, but we're both new so I thought I'd ask if you'd like to come over. I'll have some food and wine (if you drink that). I understand if you already have plans.
