New worlds were a trip. Literally. Though at least this wasn’t all doom, gloom, and stealing souls like Limbo had been. So far this one just had Avengers that she accidentally took down when they were only trying to help her. Hopefully that wasn’t going to count against her? Or would it count toward her? How many could say they’d dusted the mighty Thor and lived to tell about it?
At least the effects of it had finally started wearing off. She was pretty sure he wasn’t even seeing four of her anymore. That was progress.
She hovered criss-crossed a few inches above the ground as her wings beat, keeping her afloat. “How many fingers am I holding up?”
She waved her hand. Oops. Probably a good idea to keep still when asking that question.
Thankfully Thor wasn’t the Thor of Atreus’ world because no doubt that version of him would have rampaged and killed people under the hallucinogenic dust Pixie had dosed him with. However, this Thor had sat there talking to an unicorn firmly embedded in his mind, telling it all about Jacob Stone and his many, many good qualities.
He was in the middle of waxing poetic about the man’s skills with folding laundry, when he had come out of his fog to a very curious looking teenager that was definitely part fae of some kind, if her eyes and wings were any indication. After the initial wariness from the both of them - she had taken him as a threat when she had seen his ax strapped to his back and hammer in hand and he had been dosed - once he had come out of the fog and some explanations had been given, he had sat down with with his hammer propping him up by the side and rested.
Given who he was though, the effects didn’t last too long and then he was heaving himself up to full height with a friendly smile.
“How about we get you to the DOA and we can get you properly welcomed to Vallo?” He asked, scratching his chin as he buzzed Nicole through the comms to let her know he had a newcomer with him and he was going to bring her back to the DOA compound. “Maybe get you something to eat while we’re at it? I think it’s around lunchtime.”
She still thought the term DOA was a weird one. Who wanted to go anywhere that was ‘Dead on Arrival’? Yes, he’d explained the whole ‘Department of Defense’ but it was hard not to think of the usual acronym. The mention of food had her perking up immensely though. Pixie was not one to turn down food. Ever. Well, usually. There were some circumstances when she wouldn’t go for it.
“I could eat. They have regular food here, right?” It was so hard to know with different worlds. The one interesting part of history class had been hearing about the weird stuff the X-Men had to eat when they were mingling with the Shi’Ar or hanging out on other planets and other dimensions. “Because IDK if I am ready to try like worms or something. I could.”
She had in fact during Mr. Summers’ survival classes but she really didn’t want to.”Do they have pizza, Mr. Thor?”
Mr. Thor. Now there was a title that made him laugh. He hid it behind a cough and a grin, as he picked up his hammer and readjusted his back harness so his ax sat more comfortably. "They have a variety of pizza here," he confirmed for her, smiling down at the young mutant before nodding in the direction he knew the DOA to be. "I'll call in something to Nino's while they process you through the system."
It didn't take long to get to the DOA and for whatever reason, Thor stuck around as Pixe went through the intake process. By the time she was done, Thor was waiting for her in reception. "How'd it go?"
It had been a lot of paperwork at first, but by the time the video came around things had gotten better. The song was catchy, there were explosions that weren't going to hurt anyone. "The video was the best part."
She held up the money she'd been given. "And they gave me all of this!" It was admittedly more than Megan had ever held in her short life and belonged to her. If she didn't count holding Ms. Frost's things--those probably were worth more. "I wonder how much pizza I can get for an of it. And other food. Candy." The good stuff.
"Plus I got this." She was less sure about the key that she held up. But at least she didn't have to sleep outside or something.
Thor saw the wariness on her face when she held up the key and his smile faded a bit. “They didn’t give you a guardian?” It had been easy to figure out she was still just a child, even without the love for pizza and candy being obvious. “Or did I assume wrong and you’re older than you look?”
“No? Were they supposed to?” She was fifteen but she was also a mutant. Being able to take care of herself was pretty par for the course. Especially on Utopia when they were just trying to survive. All they had seemed to do since she’d come to Xavier’s was try to survive. And they weren’t very good at it. “I think its hard to tell how old I am. Maybe.”
“It’s a little difficult and they do it case by case,” Thor admitted, recalling the Avatar kids and Eleven. “If they think you’re competent enough, they’ll let you go on your own.” Still. Thor had Concerns. Most of the children had guardians or people looking in on them. “Do you feel comfortable with that? If it helps you, I can always come check in on you.”
Did she feel comfortable being on her own? No. No she did not. This place seemed alright so far, but so had San Francisco and then she’d been beaten up. So had her hometown and then it had demons and…other stuff that she wasn’t going to think about. But also she was an X-Man so she was probably supposed to be comfortable being on her own.
“I don’t know.”
Well, that was a no. Thor hesitated for a moment, but then the look on Pixie’s face firmed his resolve. “Okay, how about we go back in with the intake people and figure something out? If you like, perhaps you can come stay with me?” It was slightly impulsive, but he felt a sense of responsibility, having been the first to find her.
“Really?” That sounded a lot better than staying in her own apartment. On her own. With no one else. Not knowing anyone. At all. She might not need to wear a helmet anymore but part of her was still that terrified kid. Especially late at night when the shadows were at play. She blamed Illyana. “Thanks! That would totes be better.”
It would be interesting to explain how he ended up with a small mutant child as a ward to his daughter and Jacob, but he knew that they would understand. Smile blooming again, he gestured to the doors she had come out of and said, “Let’s go figure out the logistics of this and give that key back so they can give that apartment to someone in more of a need.”
