I have spoken with several of you now but had not introduced myself here.

Lan Mandragoran. I am not used to settling in one place for any long amount of time, but the potential to stay here for months, if not years, so I believe settling might be inevitable. I am a Warder in our world, to Moiraine Sedai, who arrived shortly after I did; if I may be of use to your defense teams, I will put my skills to their use.

May I ask how many of you had to adjust to all of this technology? I still find the phone unwieldy and temperamental.

I hear you - I came here from a space station, and I had gotten real tired of eating the same tomato over and over.

Basically the same as us, then. It's not forced, it's just strongly encouraged and definitely expected. For the most part, anyway. The strength of expectations varies from family to family.
