The Doctor (Ten) ([info]slimandfoxy) wrote in [info]utr_logs,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:archangel gabriel, lilo pelekai, the doctor (ten)

WHO: Lilo and the Tenth Doctor, with a bit of Gabriel
WHAT: (Re)-meeting.
WHERE: A random sidewalk on the Vegas Strip.
WARNINGS: Highly doubtful.

Ten was doing his best to look inconspicuous and unconcerned about life, if one could be said to look inconspicuous while wearing a long brown overcoat in stifling heat. Still, he was doing his best; his hands were in his pockets, he looked up every so often at the wild monuments adorning the thoroughfare, and nobody would ever have guessed how hard his mind was racing.

Had he been there long enough to save Wilfred? Had the Time Lords gone back into the Time War? What exactly had happened, and why had he popped to this place instead of regenerating? The radiation had to have killed him. Was this some sort of Heaven, like the humans had always hypothesized? He needed answers, but he couldn't get them now. He had his screwdriver, at least, but then again, what did that even mean? Had he ever given it to River Song?

He kept walking, his pace increased. Finding the TARDIS would ease his mind as well. Let that be job one.

She and Gabe had taken a day before the day they were going to get married to get aclimated to things and do some sightseeing. Lilo hadn't really liked gambling much, though pretending that evil government operatives were going to assassinate people based on their assigned numbers (that matched the roulette table, of course) made things a bit more fun.

But for the time being, they were strolling hand in hand down the strip, Lilo wearing the tiniest shorts and t-shirt she could get away with. Stupid deserts, the heat made no sense there. It sucked out all her moisture and made her want to lay in front of a fan with a glass of water, dousing herself. Though she figured that was probably how frogs felt sometimes, and this was a learning experience. She would have thought about that more when she saw a familiar brown coat and messy crop of hair she hadn't seen since she was six years old, in a hotel in the middle of a desert kind of like Las Vegas, just without the people.

Her heart stopped for two beats, one for each of his. She let go of Gabe's hand, running for him, wrapping her arms around his neck and crying. She hadn't even realized she'd missed him until she saw him again.

Ten only began to see the brunette whirlwind right before she jumped on him. He caught her, making sure the woman didn't fall, strong arms holding her up. Still, he was wondering who she might be until he leaned back to look at her.

... There was something familiar about her, and it took a moment. He looked at her face, tracing the lines, brow furrowed, until it finally clicked. "That hotel," Ten murmured, a small smile beginning to emerge. "That hotel! It can't be Lilo Pelekai? Ha-ha!"

Lilo was crying quietly to herself, and she wiped her cheeks with the back of her hand as Ten looked at her. "You remember me? Oh, Curious Doctor, I missed you!" She laughed and stroked his cheek. "You look the same, oh, thank goodness. I'm glad you got out of there too. I went from there to here."

"Well, it took me a minute, but it'd be hard to forget you entirely; I've never met a more intelligent child." It was even true, at least in terms of humans; Lilo had been bright and sharp and it had hurt him every time he looked at her in that hateful place. "But you're obviously not a child now!"

He was looking at her, and oh my, yes, she had aged well, with a lovely smile and rather pointed feminine attributes that were hard to miss, though of course he managed to keep his eyes on hers. He tended to view most humans' charms through a museum's lens; they were handsome, even beautiful, but they were all very ... distant, somehow. Held behind a perfect gilt-edged frame.

The man behind Lilo suddenly coughed, though, and Ten shifted gears entirely; he was, as per usual, curious. He strode toward the man with his hand outstretched. "Hello! I'm the Doctor. I knew Lilo when she was a child."

Gabriel had been watching the entire thing with something between confusion and indulgence, but now he smiled, shaking the proffered hand. "Ah, okay. I'm Gabriel. Gabe. I'm her fiance." Another alien? He could hear the two heartbeats, for one. He was curious about this one, but as long as he wasn't an ex, well, so be it.

"Fiance!" Ten echoed, turning back to Lilo with a grin. "You sly minx. What is he? I'm familiar with quite a lot of species, but I don't think I recognize whatever your young man might be."

"You have to be a genius, you know, you remember so many people. Did you ever find your granddaughter? Or any of your other friends?" She bit her lip a little. "Stitch was here before, but he's not now. Maybe he'll come back and you can meet him."

She smiled and helped to loosen his tie a little, just glad that he was there. He'd been a constant comfort in that terrible place, and she felt that comfort even in adulthood. Turning her head to look at Gabe, she giggled and blushed in Ten's direction. "Gabe, meet the last of the Time Lords. Curious Doctor, meet the archangel Gabriel. So, not so young. Wow, I'm a huge baby compared to you two."

He remembered Stitch. "Susan ... mmm, no, I've not seen her in some time. But I'll have to tell you about my daughter sometime." Thinking about it for a moment, he smiled a little sadly. Lilo and Jenny would have been great friends. "I do remember Stitch, though!" Ten said more brightly, trying to push past it. When Gabriel introduced himself, though, he was more fascinated than anything. "An angel, really! Frankly, I never thought you were real."

"Doesn't shock me," Gabe replied. "Most non-humans don't."

"Ah, is it that obvious." Ten raised an eyebrow, but he doubted there was anything to worry about. "I am, in fact, a Time Lord. I come from the planet Gallifrey." It felt so odd saying that aloud! "I was trying to find someone I'd lost, and I landed somewhere I couldn't leave. Lilo was there, though she was there when she was a young child."

Gabriel just nodded. This was new to him. Was there shit she hadn't told him? Had she just not thought it was necessary? He wasn't pissed, he was fucking confused.

"You have a - you mean you - " Lilo wrinkled her nose, unable to imagine the Doctor having sex. She hoped that maybe he had reproduced like an ameboa or something, that would make more sense.

She watched the most important man in her life talked with one of the guardians of her childhood. She beamed sheepishly, looking at Gabriel. "It was the worst couple of months ever, but the people there made it okay. Like my Curious Doctor!"

Gabriel smiled. "Well, I'm glad you could look out for her," he said to the Doctor, who just beamed in reply. He turned to Lilo. "I'm gonna leave you two be for a bit, I think; I'm gonna walk around myself. See you back at the hotel?" It didn't bother him that these two were close; he just figured Lilo had stuff to talk about with him. He'd find out what he needed to later on.

There was no need for him to go, but at the same time, Ten did want to speak with Lilo. "It's been nice to meet you, Gabriel. Be good to her!"

Lilo smiled at Gabriel, kissing him lightly on the mouth and hugging him tightly. "I'll be back soon. You'll know where I am." She smiled and threaded her arm through the Doctor's. "Don't worry, I'll be safe with the Doctor."

Gabriel smiled and headed in the other direction. Ten watched him go, then said to Lilo, "I really have to sit down with him at some point; I had no idea that his species was in fact real, and that's marvellous, I assure you; I've seen every corner of the universe and never come across anything as relatively simple as an angel!" He would have continued to rhapsodize, but broke off when he saw her face. "You're matched well."

"There's a few of them here, and you think so?" She blushed and grinned, biting her lip. "It's been hard here, but he makes me forget all of that." Oh, there were so many things she didn't want to tell the Doctor. It would make his hearts even heavier.

"A few of what, angels? Marvellous!" Ten was grinning right along with her. "I'll definitely have to try and speak with them before I leave. Though I may not be able to leave for a bit. Can't find the TARDIS." He tried hard to keep the irritation out of his voice, but she was no longer a child; he didn't try as hard as he might have.

"Michael's here, and he's really nice. And um. I don't know if this place is like the Hotel, but I think it might be." She squeezed his hand. "If it is, I'm sorry in advance. If it makes you feel any better, I'm only supposed to be... oh, about eight now."

Ten's face fell. "What?" This place ... this world? He couldn't leave at all? He wanted to turn away from her, wanted to turn and run back to where he'd left the TARDIS. Not again, he couldn't be stuck like he had before!

"I don't know anyone who can leave, not even the gods." She bit her lip, worried about his reaction. "But maybe you can. The gods don't have TARDISes, now do they?" She poked him lightly in the side. "Come on, you have to stay for at least a little while. My wedding's tomorrow, you should come and meet my family!"

He was still angry, but not at her, and made an effort to calm down. "Tomorrow?" Ten echoed, smiling a little. "What excellent timing I've got." And to see her married would be nice. She reminded him of Jenny, to be quite honest. Perhaps he could at least stay for the wedding.

"Yup! We came out to do some sightseeing before the wedding tomorrow. My family is going to be there. I got adopted right after I got here. And I'm sure a few of Gabey's family members will be coming too. I threatened Michael and Kabie."

He didn't know who those were, but he was happy that she'd been adopted, and said as much. "I'm absolutely chuffed that you're happy, Lilo." Ten took her hand, squeezing it. "And I'd like to see the wedding."

That did make him smile. "Since I saw you ... oh, my goodness. I don't even know. I don't really think I told you much of what I got up to, honestly. What about ... hm. The Judoon? The Daleks? Sontarans? Vashta Nerada?" He didn't really see any problem telling her; if they couldn't leave, in theory, no one could ever get to her to harm her.

"You'll have to tell me about all of them! You're one of ... only two aliens I think, now. Wait, no, three, I think. Well, I don't know. But still! You have to tell me about your adventures, and I'll tell you about what's gone on with me." She leaned her head on his shoulder. "You got short! When did you get short?"

He had to laugh. "When you aged twenty years." She'd grown, obviously, as well as wearing heeled shoes. "I don't think I've shrunk?" Maybe when the Master had gotten a hold of him? "I was very ancient and small for a year or so."

"You're very ancient and small now," she teased, sticking out her tongue. "Oh! And I promised you Hawaii! I live there now, you'll have to come visit Gabey and me and the kids! ... animal kids, not real kids, I don't know any Nephilim here but two."

He didn't actually know what Nephilim were, but no matter. "I am not ancient, nor am I small, thank you!" Ten drew himself up, fishing his glasses out of a coat pocket, raising one eyebrow. "I wouldn't think you would be old enough to have children. But Hawaii sounds lovely." He could at least look after her. See that Gabriel was treating her well. Best to reassure himself about her before trying to be on his way.

She chuckled and looked down at him. "I'm twenty-nine now, plenty old. I was pregnant once, but she died." She smiled sadly, trying to distract him by leading him toward a coffee shop. "Come on, let's get something to drink. Cocoa for you?"
