Mia was confused. She didn't recognize this room or know how she'd gotten here. The chair and the desk were way too big for her, and the computer... well, that looked ancient or like it belonged on a backwater planet. "Hello?"

A big friendly dog in the room raised its head and got up to walk over and sniff her. Mia rubbed its ears and looked at the collar and identification tag. "Isabel? Your name is Isabel?" The dog seemed to like this and tried to lick her face. She laughed and turned her face away, then went for the door.

The room outside seemed deserted too. "Is anybody there? Mom? Dad?"

Jamie stuck his head out of an unfamiliar room, a very confused look on his face. He wasn't used to hearing strange voices. He lived with his folks in the middle of nowhere. They only took visitors once every few months. And it was almost never children that came to visit.

"Who're you?" He asked, extremely curious as he looked the girl over. "And where are we?" There were noises. City noises. Cars honking, people shouting. Something told Jamie he wasn't in Kansas anymore.

Well. At least he wasn't alone. Jamie was either too young or too dumb to be horribly concerned by the fact that he was suddenly in a new place. He was excited. "I'm Jamie." He walked over to the window beside her. He was just tall enough to peek out the window. "I don't know how I got here either, but it's not the farm."

He smirked. "My mom and dad are probably freaking out big time right now."

	Mia could peek out of the window if she got on her tiptoes. Stupid boys, always being taller than her. "The farm? You live on a farm?" she asked in disbelief. She smirked back. "I run off from mine all the time, so they're used to it." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Jamie, all of eleven years old, was put into a trance by the sights of the city. He'd never seen so many cars - on a paved street! This was cool. He leaned forward and saw someone with a pink mohawk walk down the street. He grinned. "Oh. Yeah," he said after a minute. "I live on a farm. In Kansas. Do you live here? This place is awesome!"

"My mom and dad are really overprotective. And I don't ever run off. There's no where to run off to."

"Kansas. Like the state." Jamie gave Mia a Look. "What's a speeder?" He thought for a moment. There seemed no real fear in his voice, just curiosity and amusement. "Are you an alien?!"

"It's pretty boring." He shrugged. "Have to. That's where my parents chose to live." He wouldn't come right out about his powers. Not just yet. Probably was a good idea to be careful. He never knew if he'd been kidnapped by mutant haters or something.

	Now she looked even more confused. "What are you talking about? What's a mutant?" "Ohh. I wish we didn't have school at all. It's so boring." The big dog came up behind her and Mia reached out to pet her again. "I think her name is Isabel. That's what her collar says. She was with me in the other room." "Do you like... live in a cave or something?" Jamie asked. He didn't realize he was being rude and he didn't mean it to come out as bad as it sounded. He just didn't understand how someone couldn't know about mutants. He lived in north bumblefuck, Kansas and he knew what mutants were. Mostly because he was one, of course.

Jamie liked animals well enough. He scritched behind the dog's ear. It seemed happy. "Good girl," he said, patting the dog. "I don't mind it that much. It's something to do," he said with a shrug.

She raised an eyebrow at him in a look that belonged to someone older than a ten-year-old. "Well, farm and cave sound like the same thing to me. ...I think you're weird too," she added after a slight pause, but she couldn't resist a small smile.

"Earth? I've never heard of it. What sector's it in?" She was trying to peek out the window again. The wheels on the cars fascinated her.

"There's a big difference," Jamie said, almost proud. "I don't think they have cows in caves." As Mia looked out the window, he turned to look at the inside of the building. There were files and a desk. It all looked like an office he'd seen on TV. Jamie thought this all kinds of neat.

"Sector?" He scratched at the back of his neck. "I don't know. Are you really from outer space or are you playing a game on me?"

	He sounded like he sorta thought she was crazy, but he was grinning. But his words worried her a little bit. She didn't know where she was or how she'd gotten there and this kid hadn't even been off-planet. "Maybe I should try and find my parents." And another thought occurred to her. "I'm hungry." "Do you have their phone number?" Now that Jamie thought about it, he didn't know how to call his parents. He'd never left home so it wasn't like he knew the standard procedure for this sort of thing. "Maybe they're around here." A pause. "Maybe we've been kidnapped or something." He didn't sound terribly concerned. "I don't remember even getting here. I'm pretty sure we're far from the farm." Another pause. "This is kinda cool."

He looked around. "Maybe there's food around. Wanna go look?"

"Phone number?" she repeated. "I have their comm frequency. ...I think." But as she searched her pockets, she didn't have a comlink. "Where did that go?"

Mia looked back up at him. "Kidnapped? Why would we be kidnapped?" Though she didn't remember how she got here either. "If we were kidnapped, we'd be tied up and stuff." She grinned. "It is kinda cool. We can go look for food and make sure we haven't been kidnapped."

"You don't even know what a phone is? Jeeze." Jamie watched her search through her pockets. He looked himself up and down. He wasn't wearing his suit. He couldn't remember when he'd last worn regular clothes.

"Maybe not. Maybe our kidnappers aren't that kind of kidnapper. Maybe they just locked us in a building and want to watch us. Maybe we're in a zoo!" His smile grew as he spoke. "We should find food and then maybe try and figure out if we can escape."

She laughed some, but it was unclear whether she really thought he was funny or just strange. "I don't see any cameras. Let's go down that hallway and see if there's food anywhere."
