Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:darius summers, jean grey, purifiers plot, remy lebeau

Who: Darius, Remy, Jean, NPCs
Where: The Purifier's base
When: early Sunday morning
Warnings: random power manifestation, allusions to violence, daring rescues.

Darius groaned as he regained consciousness. The last thing he could remember was being in a truck of some kind. Or maybe a plane. It was hard to tell. He wiggled a little, grumbling. They'd bound him tightly, and his hands were asleep. But so far that was the worst thing, beside the missing tooth and the swelling on that side of his face. But that was old. He remembered getting those.

So they hadn't done anything to him in his sleep. By all rights he should be dead, so that was a blessing. This group didn't seem as well organized as the ones he knew about. That left him with what, exactly?

No eyesight. No mobility. Legs and arms trapped. No gag, though.

"Hello? What was the safety word again?" The joke surprised him, but only for a moment. But only a moment. Hearing his own voice seemed to enervate him, and he wiggled into a more comfortable position, taking stock of the noises around him.

Remy was smiling his best, convincing smile. There were four guards at the customs, two were particularly dour and he had to rely on his charm and smooth-talking more than he had in a long time. The herd of tired, sullen and dirty people behind him, ready to fall asleep standing up, didn't look much like an tour crowd and the old Italian grandfather raised his eyebrow at the mutant.

"Plaza de la Concord open market" he shrugged helplessly. "Tough strip."

Finally they were let in, shuffled like sheep after Remy, to a most empty warehouse for produce checked out of quarantine. The people did not need to be told to eat and Remy stood outside, waiting for Jean with a bright red mango.

About an hour later, Jean arrived at customs. The bus was much more efficient when it didn't have to worry about things like gas. Jean smiled at the guards, and quickly made them forget the group, slipping past to meet with Remy. She checked on everyone, nodding as she looked around. "Okay. I've got transport, and Hank and I came up with a plan. Just one last hop to go."

She sighed, pulling her hair back into a ponytail. "And then the bickering over showers can commence. Hank's going to come to us, get everyone under quaratine. The house should be big enough to get everyone comfortable." For a moment she let herself contemplate what it would mean if the Purifiers had used the virus. But that was something to worry about later. No need to scare anyone else more than they already were, Remy included.

"Alright. I'm ready to go rally the troops if you are."

He pulled away from the door jamb he had been lounging against and keeping watch, nodding as she spoke.

"Sounds like a bon plan, even if I don' like worryin' de good doctor."
He tossed the mango to her. "I rally. You take a break, Cheri."

Walking back into the area where people were feeding, dozing or checking their makeshift triage, he called them up to their feet. Most numbly followed, tired and anxious for a rest and safe place. The few resisting the orders and starting to make a row were put in place with a red and black glare and a wolfish grin.

The bus lurched and ambled away towards Milan and hopefully peace and quiet.

Jean let Remy take over, weary and grateful. The last time she'd used her powers this much had been a long time ago. Nearly as soon as the bus was rolling, Jean was asleep. She'd given Remy directions, and the likelihood of them being stopped was low. She trusted Remy to get them all home safely.

Remy steered the bus rather well for a land tanker, having forgotten the road rules of Italy for five minutes before switching to the proper side. He followed the directions Jean had left in his head, as if this was an ol' paper route, smiling faintly when she finally fell asleep. Most of the bus followed her example, nodding and drifting off after the harrowing event.

A few hours later, the bus stopped and parked at the mansion with a relieved sigh of its own. Remy chuckled and stepped outside to find help, not willing to rouse any passenger until there was something to do. He cracked his back, bones repopping in place and reminding him he wasn't the cocky spry thief he used to be.

There wasn't any help, but a spry little terrier bounced up and put her paws on his legs, barking joyfully. She loved people, and missed all the good people who gave her pettings and things.

Margie's barking woke a couple people, but most were sleeping too deeply. Jean groaned softly, and slid out of her seat. She peered out the window and stifled a laugh. Quickly she hopped out of the bus, scooping the wiggling mass of fur up. "Sorry. She's the worst guard dog ever."

He chuckled and brushed his hands off from greeting the dog back, playing and rubbing her back.

"Au contraire. De burg'lars'd be cuted t'death," he winked. "And she'd leave enough evidence in fur t'trace them back."

Jean laughed, inordinately happy to see her adopted puppy. A few of the conscious passengers peered out of the bus, and Jean smiled brightly at them. "There's a shower in there. If you're quiet, you can get about ten minutes in before someone else bangs the door down. Any clothing you can find is yours, we've got a pretty good selection. Bed down where you can."

The more rested of the lot moved. The others just kind of stared. She sighed. "Go to bed." Direct orders were easier to deal with, and the rest trudged in. "Let the rest sleep. I'll stay here and give direction. The master bath is on the second floor all the way at the end of the hall on the right. If you hurry, you'll beat the others there. My bedroom's attached to it. But you're not allowed to say you've gotten into my bed without giving context from this day forward."

"I suppose findin' a souvenir for proof would warrant vengance as well." He mocked-pouted before looking down at the suit that was a complete loss and laughing.

"I've looked n' been covered in worse, et you know dat," he chuckled but nodded obediently. "But I t'ink I'll be greedy and take de offer, if you poke me when de fun starts. I can at least herd dem about, gimme a stick."

He kissed her cheek. "Merci beaucoup ma Cheri, for de save mostly et de shower." He gave her an old friendly smile, little grateful to the Purifiers for letting him see her and play hero one more time, before jogging away and climbing up the trellis to steal some hot water.

Jean hugged him, glad she could help at least one old friend. "I'll wake you up if I need you. Go get some rest you scoundrel." She pulled up one of her porch chairs, keeping an eye on the bus. Later, she would think about what all this might mean for the future she was hoping to build. For now, she just hoped the passengers they'd brought would be seen to soon.
