Entry tags:darius summers, ophelia

Who: Darius and Ophelia
What: looking around her house, mild flirting.
Where: Ophelia's home.
When: earlier in the day
Warnings: obscene levels of cute?

Darius felt a little silly as he walked through the streets of New York. He was carrying a Wandering Jew, the purple and silver foliage brushing over his hands as he walked. The urge to shelter it from the cold was strong, but he refrained. A little time in the cold wouldn't hurt it, and he'd look foolish cuddling a plant.

Still, he was careful with it as he went, sheltering it with his arm when the wind was particularly cold.

He arrived at Ophelia's door quickly, driven by the cold and the wet. Just being here made him smile, and he knocked, hoping she wouldn't take long. It felt as though his bones were solid ice.

"It shouldn't be. Especially not in places where there is warmth all the time, like these."

And Darius hated the cold, so if it was warm to him, it would likely suit her.

"If it is warmer than Denmark lakes, then I'm sure I shall love swimming."

She wants to try everything.

He grinned. "Then we'll, uh, need to get you a bathing suit."

He blushed a lot.

"I'll look and see what I have first," Ophelia says cheerfully. "There are so very many clothes up in my room. I've been trying them on."

She has a great lot of fun with it, as well.

He nodded. "That makes sense. After all, why buy something you don't need?"

She would look good in anything, anyway.

"Exactly." Though shopping sounds fun too.

She thinks she would look good in just about anything too. She got to see what she really looked like in the mirror and she actually thinks she's quite lovely. Mirrors are amazing things.

"It looks so beautiful...otherworldly. It is incredible to me that such a place exists."

"I'm glad you think so. Would you like me to tell you a little more about these places?"

If Darius had known, he'd have probably encouraged her to look at herself more often. It was good for a person to think of themselves as attractive.

"Yes, please. Have you been to all of them?"

She'd gotten curious after reading some of the magazines in her room. It was a strange standard of beauty, but not entirely a false one.

"Yeah. Went to Hawaii as a family, and the Bahamas with just my parents and brothers. And then there was a rucus in Florida that needed both teams of X-men, so I was there too, but not for sightseeing."

He thought for a bit. "Hawaii has really good food. The people there are very relaxed and friendly. Very pretty too. It's basically debris from a volcano, so it's all very green and vibrant."

He opened the next book. "The Bahamas are an American territory, I think. They have a lot of interesting stuff there, and a pretty rich history. But they're not always the nicest to Americans, and it's a pretty poor place. Very beautiful, though."

And lastly. . . "Florida is part of the continental United States. It's down the East Coast, so our travel time would be short. It has Disneyworld, which sounds like a cool place to go, and lots of sandy beaches. Also, good food. It's got a mixture of a lot of different cultures, so there's a lot of awesome stuff to see."

"Oh my. It all sounds just so fascinating...I want to go everywhere!"

She beamed at him. "But I'm still intrigued by Hawaii." Ophelia hopes he does not mind.

But she has resolved to always be honest as to what she wants. "But what is a volcano?"

There are not many of those in Denmark...

He laughed. "Good!" Her choice made him nod. Hawaii was his personal favorite. "Hmmmm. It's. . . like a mountain that's connected to an underground stream of rock that is so hot, it melts into liquid. Every now and then the volcanoes erupt, and spew liquid rock. I don't think that's happened in Hawaii recently, though."

Volcanoes are pretty neat. Darius had always wanted to see one in action, but never got the chance. Which was probably for the best.

"I...can't even imagine that," Ophelia said, fascinated. Though she does remember watching the metalsmith work on horseshoes, and how hot the metal got, until it was glowing red.

"I am so looking forward to seeing the islands and especially with you."

She really liked him tremendously, and it was nice to speak with a man who treated her well.

"Good. I'm glad that you're looking forward to it." He blushed a little. "I hope you have a good time. Would you like to go sometime in February?"

That would give him time to plan.

She remembers February as being a memorably miserable month. And Valentine's Day was that month too. She...did not particularly like that day, either, fraught with disappointment as it was.

"Oh yes. February would be perfect."

"Cool." He'd forgotten all about Valentine's day, since he rarely had a reason to acknowledge it. Usually he endeavored to be single around that time, since he rarely had a girlfriend he wanted to shower with false love and affection that month.

In about a week he'd remember and facepalm at himself. "Then it sounds like a plan."

Ophelia...has had her heart broken over Valentine's day too many times to even think about it in a kindly light.

She is going to steadfastly igore the day. Or try to.

She squeaked happily and clapped her hands. "Hooray!"

Darius will gladly join her in ignoring it.

He beamed at her obvious delight, and laughed a little. "I'm glad that you're happy, Ophelia. Have you been to your shop yet?"

"Oh, yes. It's gorgeous. Ms. Torres says that we get a great amount of business. I own most of it, though we have enough workers that I do not have to be there most of the time if I am not up to it. But I think I am understanding how the business is run, and so I am there more often."

She's not really been in contact with many customers, and most of the employees there shield her from the rude ones if she's out in the front.

Listening to her was good. She was so enthusiastic about life. It was difficult to imagine her as Shakespeare had written her.

But then again, Shakespeare was a hack. "What kind of stuff do you do in the shop?"

It was rather hard to be cheerful when everything was grey and cloudy, you were alone most of the time, and told to be quiet when you weren't alone.

Betrayal and abandonment didn't help either. But...thinking on those things made her upset, and so she tried not to think on them too much.

"Oh, I cut and arrange the flowers and sometimes I take orders on the telephone. I don't deal with the public much...I have a feeling the girl I replaced was fairly shy."

Darius had never been through that kind of trauma. Though his family had its share of squabbles and infighting, any of them would protect the other without a second thought. He had always felt safe with his family, and loved, even if he bickered with his brothers.

"That sounds nice. It must be pretty relaxing, after the walk to the store." He chuckled a little. New York drivers were crazy.

Laertes was a very nice brother to her...but he, like her father, was very much a man of his time.

"It is usually a nice walk...if I am going in early. If I go in around noon, it takes a while."

Because yes, New York drivers are crazy.

"That's not too bad. It was busy in San Francisco, too. But I liked living there. It was a very open place."

He'd grown up in the by-then well founded mutantown, and had seen people walk around unmolested where in certain parts of the country they still had to suffer for how they were born.

"New York seems pretty neat. When it warms up, we'll go exploring."

"Where is San Francisco?"

One thing Ophelia needs in her life is an atlas.

"I'd like that. I've never seen this place in warm weather."

He wished he'd brought a map now, too.

Oh! Wait! Modern technology to the rescue! He pulled out his blackberry and brought up the webbrowser, finally finding a picture of the United States."

"Okay. You are in this little leg up here, in one of the tiny states. San Francisco is on the other side here, on the West Coast."

He pointed with a pen, since his fingers were too big to be specific enough.
