Who: Aphrodite and Jean Grey
What: Tea.
When: Backdated to Friday, around 4PM, before the crazy.
Where: The King's Teagarden in Berlin
Warnings: Only if you've got a phobia of tea.

Aphrodite was very rarely on time for things... She was habitually just late enough to make an entrance without being rude, a skill honed over countless centuries. She was even less often early for anything... but given this strange world she was taking no chances. 10 minutes before 4 she was at the tea shop, explaining to the hostess in slightly archaic German (really, how was she supposed to keep up with every language people kept changing?) where she wished to be seated.

She declined the offer of scones, and bread, and tea, and everything else her waiter kept offering, sighing softly as he tripped over his words in an effort to please her, remembering why she didn't go out more often than she did. With a smile she pat his hand, explaining water was fine for now, and that she was waiting for a friend. Water achieved, she squeezed a bit of lemon into it and began perusing the menu as she waited.

Jean arrived on time, landing softly on the entrance. She smiled brightly and asked where her friend was, in mordern German.

Telepathy is always terribyl useful.

She smiled brightly at Dite, and sat, surprised when the waiter came over, eager to take their orders.

"Hello." She giggled a little.

She smiled at the woman as she sat down, immediately distracted by the waiter. She offered him a withering look, and shook her head. "Honey, she just sat down... give a few minutes, will you?"

Dismissing him with an absent wave of her fingers, she returned her smile to Jean, holding out her hand.

"I apologize for that... It happens all the time. You must be Jean. It's a pleasure."

"It's not a problem. I can understand that. After all, you are very beautiful."

She smiled, laughing a little. "Though now I see why you don't go out much."

The menu was interesting. She glanced at it for a moment. "I hope you haven't been waiting long."

"It's part and parcel of the job, I suppose. He'll think he's in love with me for the rest of the afternoon, but by tonight, he'll transfer it to his girlfriend and she'll have a lucky night. Still, while I generally encourage fawning, it can get rather bothersome. It has it's time and place, you know?"

Leaning back in her chair, she let the menu fall closed, one leg crossing over the other. "Only a few minutes. new world, new rules... thought I'd try being early to something for a change. it's a cute little shop. I don't know that I've been in Berlin since the War... Not the most exciting place at the time."

The part about the waiter made Jean giggle. "Lucky girl. And I imagine that you'd want something different every now and then, if only to make the fawning more interesting."

"That's good. Which war were you here for?" It was usually a depressing question, but it would give her a good idea what time Dite was from.

"I used to... anymore I'm content to get my adoration in smaller doses. And while I damp it down a bit? There's only so much."

She shrugged lightly, finding nothing vain in her assessment of the situation - as far as she was concerned, vanity was undue pride in one's self, and she simply was what she was. To deny it would be false humility, and that was never pretty.

"The last time? World War II... though of course, before that there were countless reasons to be in the area. Personally, I had little interest in the whole affair, But Ares and I at the time were pretty tight, and he was a fan. How about you? Been to Berlin before? All I know about you really is you've children, and grandbabies... though you hardly look old enough."

"I. . . time is a funny thing." Jean shrugged. "My son was sent to the future, and through time travel has come to be very old. Older than me, I would say. And I was floating around in space for a long time, and may or may not be very old."

She shrugged. "It's weird, but you get used to it. Is Ares like that all the time? I mean, the whole macho show he was putting on in your post was kind of funny."

"Oh my... my time has always been rather linear, I suppose. Yesterday is always the past, tomorrow always the future. We're not big on time travel on Olympus. It makes a complete mess of the Tapestry." She smiled lightly.

"Ares is... almost always like that, yes. Wasn't much of a show. Quite convinced he can't be bested at most things, and correct in the assumption just often enough to feed his ego. He's... often misunderstood." Just thinking of him gave her cheeks a light glow.

Jean smiled, and waved down the waiter. Time for tea.

"Have you decided if you want to have children again or not?"

"I'm still not sure how smart an idea it is... but yes. Already working on it."

She flashed the waiter a quick smile, ordering a particularly interesting blend of tea and a plate of croissants. With a flick of her wrist she was handing the menu to him, and waited until Jean had ordered.

"how did you get involved in all this time and space travel? Hardly seems the norm."

Jean ordered her own tea, and smiled brightly at the waiter.

"Oh, it was pretty normal for my world. But I'm beginning to think my world was particularly insane."

She smiled a little. "I was a superhero, as silly as it sounds. Though I was also a model for a while, too. Which has made being a haute couture designer easier, here."

"I'm not sure what a superhero does, but I can't imagine a normal person being any more surprised at that then hearing a person is a goddess. I imagine as a superhero, you had certain abilities? If so, why not continue on that path as opposed to working as a designer?"

She had never really understood the desire for some to have occupations... her son Anteros had always been one to work a so-called-normal job among the mortals, and she knew more than a few of the daimons that did the same. As far as she was concerned, being Goddess was work enough for her.

"Granted, I'm not yet sure of the sanity of this world...."

"There's no real need. I could work as a psychologist, but I haven't done anything for myself in a very long time. Designers seem to live exclusively for themselves, so it works out nicely."

She shrugged. "Beside, it makes more money, and I don't have to live with any old men."

"Living for yourself is a good thing, I think. There are those who'd tell you I've lived exclusively for myself since the day I rose from the sea... They'd be mostly right. I've never seen a reason to change."

She lifted her head to smile as the tea was delivered, each in it's own pot, and took a moment to pour herself a cup, sipping lightly.

"And I can't say I've ever really thought of money much. Though I can see it's appeal. So you like it here, then? It's growing on me. I think were there none I knew, however, I'd be a bit more distressed."

"Nothing wrong with that if you can do it. I'm not good at it, so I need an excuse."

Jean took a drink of her tea, savoring the taste. "I do enjoy this world a lot. It seems to be good for everone I've come across. I don't think I've smiled this much in a long time."

She giggled. "And I defintiley didn't have tea with goddesses back home."

"Oh, you just need a bit of practice. Granted, I'm from another time, when your choice as a woman was to be either meek and docile or strong and bold... and the meek thing didn't seem to be doing anyone any good. Not that being tempestuous didn't have it's own set of issues. But really, putting yourself first gets easier the longer you do it. Just figure out priorities. Putting yourself first all the time isn't usually feasible, if you want any relationships."

She chuckled, taking a part a croissant. "Can't say I've ever dined with a super hero, either. Or a fashion designer, for that matter."

"I suppose that's true. I will have to focus some more time on myself."

She smiled at the last statement. "I doubt you need much to make yourself look fantastic, as far as clothing goes."

"Time is good, but it's more than that... Figure out your priorities, figure where your own happiness falls on the list, then stick to it. For instance - Possibly the only thing I put above my own happiness is the well-being of my kids. Other than that? If I'm not happy, no one is happy.. and they know it. So Not only do I get to focus on my happiness? Others do as well, so they don't feel my wrath. It's all about me, And that's just an awesome thing. I really encourage you try it."

She shrugged a bit, taking another sip of tea before continuing. "Well... I've never thought about fashion, really. I mean, I can make burlap look good without even trying. Back home, I generally wore traditional clothes most of the time on Olympus... it was just easier. When going down to the mortal realm it was always some timeless fashion. I've really got no idea what's in and what's out."

Jean nodded and laughed a little. "I was like that once, but not by choice."

Dark Phoenix was not fun.

"Eh, current fashion is boring. The fashion that's coming is my focus."

"Can't see that there's anything wrong with it, as long as you don't go all mega-bitch like Hera."

She shrugged... she saw nothing wrong with being a bit self-centered... who else was she supposed to be centered on?

"So what sort of fashions are coming to the world?"

"I'm used to making my clothing out of unstable molecules, so a lot of fun things. The amount of stuff you can get away with when you're using fabric that isn't fabric is pretty incredible."

She smiled a bit shyly. "But I'm sticking to more classic looks until I know what I want my new look to be."

She nodded slowly, brow furrowing as she attempted to really understand what the other woman was talking about. There were many things that she'd learned over the years, but science of any sort had always made little sense to her. she *knew* how things worked in the original form, and generally considered science to be a bizarrely unbelievable way of explaining things. She imagined a "fabric that wasn't fabric" made of unstable molecules, whatever they might be, to be something Hephaestus would come up with.

"You can never go wrong with classic, you know. It's that way for a reason. High quality classic looks last longer then the strange things that hit the runways each year. I'm sure you'll do fine. So tell me about this search for love..."

Jean laughed. "I'll keep that in mind."

Ah, the search for love. "I suppose I'm just so used to being in a relationship I don't really know how to function outside of one. I was married to my high school sweetheart for a long time, and it ended with my death."

She'd made sure of that.

"Ahh... And yet, not being dead, it can be problematic."

She nodded absently... She knew well enough the familiarity that came with a long term relationship. Granted, she was usually in more than one at a time, but that was often a situation beyond her control.

"So is it the familiarity of a relationship you look for, or the bloom of love? One doesn't always mean the other."

"Exactly."

She sipped her tea and thought for a moment. "I would like the first, with an option on the second? I like having someone to be with, but I don't necessarily want to jump back into a heavy duty relationship until I know what life here will be like."

"One. A man from my previous world, but not someone I was close to."

She laughed a little. "His name is Bruce, and he's like a magnet, two extreme sides that can never touch each other."

But it was something she could understand. Her own life had mostly been dominated by the Phoenix, and she'd had little time, especially toward the end, to be herself.

"He dated a version of me from before. We've got a date for Halloween."

"Ahh... but not your version? Sounds like it could prove intriguing. multiple aspects can always add a bit of spice, one way or the other."

She smiled... Hades knew Ares tended to have his hands full dealing with all the aspects of love.

"Are you hoping it might go somewhere?"
