Entry tags:burton guster, shawn spencer

Who:William Zane and Samuel L. Jackson
Where: Billy's place.
When: Dunno, earlier.
Warnings: None. BFF talk, that's it. Some grr, angstyness.

After talking to Shawn's. . sister online, Tesla, erm, right, anyway he found out the. .oddly familiar address. He went, and his jaw only hit his lap when he had already parked. It was Lassiter's house. He shook that off as best as he could too and got out of the car, hurried up to the door and knocked, put on his determined face and waited for Shawn to answer the knock, which Tesla conveniently ignored by picking her earbuds up and popping them into her ears.

Shawn shook his head. "You don't get it. I KNOW all that. Everything you said makes perfect sense. What I'm saying is that I should have known better."

He avoided the eyes of his best friend, knowing Gus really didn't want to hear anything he was about to say, so won't this teach his inquiring ass a lesson?

"We... had been dating for a little over a month when he disappeared. I had been turned eight years old at the time LONG STORY Not right now. Anyway, the... new one showed up after I grew up again, and didn't remember a thing. What I'm saying is that I should have taken that as a sign of bad juju and left it at that. Instead, I had to be a jackass and thought I could get him back... I knew the risks and did it anyway. And OH LOOK, blew up right in my freakin face now didn't it? That makes me stupid."

"So you took a risk Shawn. You l-iked him. He meant something to you. So it blew up in your face and yeah, that hurts, but what good is this? Sitting at home when you're not at the office or bangin' some random guys and gals?" he swallowed heavily after that before managing to continue on.

"You're making yourself miserable and the people around you miserable. Now, tell me Shawn, what's the grand scheme behind that, hmm?"

Shawn squirmed on the bed again, feeling eeriely like a bear approching a bear trap but not knowing exactly where to step.

"It won't suck when they disappear?" He said in a small voice, practically a whisper.

Gus frowned more. "It wont suck to know you pushed them away until they were gone and you couldn't make things btter with them? I beg to differ."

he sighed. "I know you've been burt and I know this is cliche, but you have to move on, man, if you want to feel eve na teensy bit happy. If I have to pull a "Twister" move and tie myself to somne piping, I aint going nowhere anytime soon."

Shawn rolled his eyes and tossed the pillow aside. "You seriously don't get it do you? You disappeared twice! House and I had just come back from Mexico when he disappeared and came back not knowing who I was. If that eight year old thing hadn't happened? We would NOT be friends right now. He..." Shawn gestured to the picture again, refusing to admit it hurt to say his name, "He didn't remember anything when he came back. I was Spencer again. And if he does show up again? I'll be Spencer all over again. I am TIRED of being forgotten all the damn time! I'm tired of waking up and feeling like someone hit restart on my life. And no offence? But you can reassure me all you damn want, it won't make any difference if you get taken away AGAIN."

Shawn shoved past Gus, needing to get out of the bedroom, out of the house. He stormed back to the front door looking for the keys to his bike. It would be too ironic taking the Crown Vic right now and he really didn't feel like dealing with that either.

Gus sighed and went to go after him and yell at him some more when Tess came back in with a bag of groceries including the milk and pineapple Shawn had asked her to get, she took one look at him, saw him hunting for his keys and she sighed, kicked her shoes off and grabbed them from a hook on the wall, pressed them into his palm before going into the kitchen to mutter under her breath on her own.

Gus sighed. "I know I don't get it Shawn, it hasn't happened to me. But you're being ridiculous about all of this."

He nodded his thanks to Tess and walked out the front door, knowing Gus would follow. As soon as he heard the it shut behind Gus, Shawn pulled out his sunglasses, loving the well timed dramatics the whole scene was playing out as. "I'm not being ridiculous. I'm being practical. There's a difference."

"Oh, is that what you call it? Last I looked, 'practical' was a term ladies used to describe proper behavior in the earlier 1900's." He shook his head. "Stop pushing people away, talk about things that bother you and for God's sakes, Shawn, stop working as much as you can and sleeping when you can't. I never thought I'd see the day Shawn Spencer became Henry Junior."

If Gus could have seen the glare Shawn shot him from behind the sunglasses... well Gus probably would have stood his ground, having known Shawn for most of their lives.

"Dude. Harsh."

"It's Harsh, but it's true. Maybe that's what you need now, Shawn. Someone to tell you like it is instead of people holding your hand and telling you it's ok, because it's not. From what I've seen, and heard, you're being a real dick because this universe isn't working to your advantage. I understand that sucks quite a bit for you, but seriously, no one here enjoys it and no one else completely shuts out the people that love them the most like you have."

He shook his head. "So start thinking about how you make people feel before you act the way you do, because I can tell you one thing, and that's that that vortex isn't the only thing that can make people go away, Shawn."

Shawn sat down on the stairs that led up to Lassy's his front door. He was silent for a very long time. Just thinking.

Resting his elbows on his knees, and his chin in his hands, Shawn stared out at the Santa Barbara coastline. The house wasn't within walking distance of the beach, but you could still see the ocean from the steps.

"... I know you probably don't want to hear this since it might infect your 'straight man' mindset... but I miss him. No offence to you buddy, you're like a brother to me, but I've never missed anybody like this before. I can't make it go away. How do you make it go away Gus? I don't know how to handle this."

Gus couldn't help but chuckle at the first half of that, rubbing a hand over his eyes, glad Shawn was finally worn down enough to just spit it out, and make a crack at him. "Yeah well, believe me, convincing myself you're gay-ish? Hasn't exactly been easy."

He sat on the bottom step at Shawn's feet and looked out over the view himself, taking in a deep breath, hoping to inhale the sea scent but instead met with just plain old air. They weren't close enough to take in that salty air. "I don't think you ca never make it go away, Shawn. I think you're supposed to just ride it out until it doesn't hurt as bad, or something."

"I always figured you didn't want to know about the other pretty faces I brought home. Though I thought you'd be more shocked about... him than me."

The smile faded from Shawn's face as he continued on. "It would be nice to go back to before all this happened. To forget all of it. Think I'd have to move first. Maybe after Houses move back to New York, I'll go back to my old place. Or find some place different. Sterile, ya know?"

Shawn turned to face Gus, an inquiring look on his face before it broke into a huge grin. "Ugh this grown up stuff is way too itchy. Hey! Let's go to Mexico again! Maybe we'll get you married off again."

"Well I don't, that's true. But in general, I guess it's cool. I wont hate on you for diggin' dudes." He laughed a little. "It's shockin', yeah. But, I mean, whatever made you happy. I guess."

Gus nodded in understanding. "Maybe that's a good idea, yeah. Tesla will be out on her own, you can get your own little place. That'd be good for you. And I'll be coming by to annoy the crap out of you."

Gus laughed again, a little harder and he nodded. "All right, maybe we can." He joked, nodding, figuring he'd give him this just this once. A vacation was probably a good thing.
