WHO: Anne & Sam
WHAT: Going to Troy (what's left of it, anyway)
WHEN: Now
WHY: She's homesick

It hadn't taken her very long to pack at all. They weren't going for very long, just a couple of days, and really? Anne was grateful that Sam had agreed to take her for that long. She knew he didn't really understand her need to go, but the fact that he was willing to just go meant more to her than she could express.

It was a need, too, and she spent the night in the chair in his room, thinking. He'd asked her why she was sad and it wasn't that she was sad, not really. She missed her home, though. How it made her feel, how it smelled, the people. The people wouldn't be there, couldn't be there, and THAT was what made her sad. Selena, her mother's maid, her guards, all of the people she'd just abandoned... gone.

So, she sat there and waited until morning, then took a shower and went back to Sam's room. She got dressed again and waited some more.

"I'm glad I didn't have to fly with him, then."

Over the next few hours, Anne actually did manage to doze off, curled as close to Sam as she could be without actually being in his lap. She dreamed of home and when she woke, she was just as melancholy as before but the fact that they were nearly there made her smiles a bit more sincere and ready.

When the plane landed, she sat there and looked at Sam. "Will we just go or?" If she was tired, she wasn't going to say anything to him. He'd just make her go lay down some more.

"I got us a driver. Should be here to get us, take us wherever we want to go. You just need to tell him where, honey." Sam eyed her carefully, worried.

He got their bags, found the car and the driver and helped her inside. Being somewhere unfamiliar was *weird* for him, having lived his whole life in the whole continental 48.

The driver, being both European and that close to Greece, spoke Greek. It wouldn't have mattered. Anne would have spoken Turkish if it had been easiest for him, but she rattled off directions using both her hands and her words. Once she was sure that the man understood, she sat back and took Sam's hand again.

"I know I've said thank you, but just being here feels different." She looked out the windows to the car. "It's the air. It's ancient and full of meaning."

"I think I know what you mean. The one time we went back to Kansas...I mean, I only lived there for about a year, but...I think I understand what you're saying." he had been impressed with her fluent Greek.

He'd sort of understood what she was saying, and he'd been a little pleased with himself. He tried to take in the country as it rolled past them.

"I know that you do." She nodded without looking at him. If anyone understood her, it was Sam. She just knew that much about him. He was not like anyone else that had come into her life previous. Where Anteros was her heart, Sam was her soul. She'd grown through Anteros and without the ability to love him and James and even Nicholas, she wouldn't have been able to love Sam as much and as thoroughly as she did. She knew that, even as a mortal, the Gods were blessing her. First with Sam and now their son. Being home, even if it was only for a short while, made her feel as if everything in her life was going to be okay.

An hour passed before the man stopped the vehicle and looked back at her through the mirror. He told her that he couldn't take the car any further. Smiling at him, Anne said, "We'll walk."

She pushed open the door and took a deep breath.

Sam said to Anne, "Tell him to wait for us, especially if it gets dark." He handed her the foreign currency he'd obtained. "And give him a large tip to make it worth his time, honey, please."

He didn't want to be stuck out here, where ever he was. After she'd done so, he took her hand firmly and let her lead.
"Show me the way home, Anne."

Anne leaned back through the driver's window and relayed Sam's instructions. Then she relayed them again and pointed back at Sam, to the man's name, his company and back at Sam. A sweet smile later and Sam had taken her hand. "He'll wait."

It didn't irk her as much as it should have that she couldn't threaten the man into staying all by herself in her current state, but it didn't matter. She was home. She was home and Sam had brought her here. The look that she gave him conveyed all her gratitude and then some and she led the way onto the ruins.

No tour groups came here. Not where it mattered. "This," she said quietly, almost too quietly, "is the courtyard. There are steps, there-" she pointed, "- that lead upstairs. And down, to the kitchens. Upstairs, though, are the bedrooms, the grand ballrooms..." Her voice trailed off and she stood there, imagining it in her mind. "One day, Sam. I'll show you."

He tried to see it all, as she was describing it. Sam held her hand tightly as she pointed this way and that.

"Where was your room?" he wanted to know. Sam had always been fascinated by people's rooms. He'd only had his own for the first six months of his life and it had ended in fire and death.

Her room. A smile as a memory came over her. "It was around this way."

Picking her way carefully over the rocks and finding a staircase or three fairly intact led her down to the beach. It didn't take long for her to find a crocus plant that had grown much larger over the time she'd been gone. Bending down she felt tears come and she wiped them away as she petted the plant and then stood.

"Up there." She pointed to an area that was empty. "It's there, on the highest level. There was a balcony that wrapped around the edge. It overlooked this beach. I had a bed that was... well, very large. A vanity made of marble that kept everything that I've ever treasured. It's all in my London home. The treasures, not the vanity. A closet that kept clothes for months. And my bathroom, a sitting room, a side room for my personal maid..." As she drifted off, she smiled up at Sam. "It was a big suite."

Looking down at the plant. "My father planted this in celebration of my birth."

Sam knelt down to look at the flower, and looked up to see where Anne was pointing.

"Your dad's kind of sentimental." he more said to himself more than anyone else. Rising, he wrapped his arms around Anne from behind her, one hand slipping to her little round belly. He just stood with her, quietly and took in everything around him for awhile.

"He'll know about this, Anne. He will." Sam promised.

"My father hadn't had a child in three thousand years. He has a right to be a bit sentimental. That and Apollo would have killed me as an infant to hurt my father." She grinned, feeling more alive than she had since she'd been sick. "My birth was a secret."

She placed a hand over Sam's and took a deep breath. "After he's born, the only way to raise the city is to be a god. Me. I have to do it. After Mother died, I closed it down. I left. Their Queen was gone and I wasn't ready to be that for them. I want my city back, Sam, but I want to be yours. With you."

Antigone didn't move out of his arms, she just twisted a little to look up at him. "I belong with you."

He didn't really know what to say to that. Of course he wanted her to be with him...for her to be only his.

"I didn't think you'd stay...this way...forever."

It just made him sad that his forever had no chance of keeping up with hers. She'd see their son into his old age, when Sam was a long forgotten memory. He shivered a little bit and held her closer.

"I don't know what to do," she whispered. Louder, "When I closed the city, I swore it would be forever. That I wouldn't be selfish, keeping those people alive for thousands of years just to keep me happy."

Now, she turned in his arms and looked up at him. "If I weren't pregnant, just being here would have made me ME again. Our son prevents that." She wrapped her arms around his waist. "If I stay this way, if I leave the city in ruins, then I want to grow old and die. With you."

Sam swallowed hard, not saying a word. He held onto her tightly and stuck his face into her hair.

He couldn't tell her not to be who she was destined to be. He loved her so much, that he couldn't want selfish things for himself, either.

"Just be happy, baby. That's all I need." he murmured to her head, doing his best to keep it together.

She clung to him as if she was going to float away without him to anchor her there. The tears that came this time didn't stay in her eyes. She could feel them start down her cheeks and then she was crying.

"I don't know what that is anymore, Sam. Being with you makes me happy. Being here? Makes me complete. I don't know-" She shook her head and pressed her face against his chest. The sounds of the ocean in the distance soothed her enough to stop her from losing it completely.
