He smiled a bit. “Well Sonya, I’ll confess something myself. In all of my years, I’ve never had a bride before you. I always looked at women as useless, and mindless animals. When asked to create one, I went off of my opinion on women… thus we have Mileena. Anyways, when I first met you I admired your spirit. You knew who you were, and you weren’t weak minded. I’ll even say you had the strongest mind out of any of the other Earthrealm denizens I encountered. That’s why I made you my bride, but I have a feeling you knew that. I know it isn’t the marriage that you imagined as a child, but for me… it has been better than I had ever thought marriage could be.” Shang Tsung stopped speaking, and felt suddenly vulnerable. If Sonya had had any food in her mouth at the time, she would've surely chocked at what he just said. As it was, she was merely rendered speechless-which in of itself was rather impressive. It wasn't what he said about her spirit, she had known that from the get-go, but how he said it. If he asked, she would outright deny that she was blushing-it was the spices in the vegetables, really. She put her chopsticks down a moment. "Mileena does have issues, but I imagine they're mostly 'daddy issues'..." She noted the barrier. "No, but then again, I never saw myself getting married as a child. I only saw myself as a war hero, like my father was to me-worried the hell out of my mother." That's it...talk about her own past..less awkward that way. She took a few bites of rice and vegetables. Shang Tsung smiled again. “You never saw yourself getting married? Neither did I to be honest, I thought of myself as above such an archaic, and foolish tradition. To be honest, I’m not sure what overcame me when I took you as my bride. Perhaps it was a way to justify bringing you back to life?” Shang Tsung paused for a moment, and took a bite of dinner. “You know, I wondered what kind of sorcery brought us here, but now I know what is was. It was fate, do you know what I’m saying? I don’t know what we are meant to accomplish here, but we can’t have been brought here for nothing. Shang Tsung nodded his head, and frowned a bit. “You know, I don’t really believe it was fate either. It’s weird to be on the realm I once helped to conquer, but at the same time it is interesting. It puts my earlier victories in perspective. So, what are you plans from here? Are we going to remain married?” Shang Tsung paused for a second, “I mean, it isn’t like you’re going to be forced now. Sonya cradles her chin in her palm, thinking a moment before sitting up straight. "You're right, there's nothing forcing me to stay married, but," she pauses, she's mostly thinking out loud at the moment. "There's nothing that's forcing me to separate from you either. You were right, this isn't the sort of marriage I'd imagine myself to be in, but at the same time: I never imagined myself to making it fighting to save my realm, never imagined that I would be meeting sorcerers, gods, demons, and the like nor have I ever imagined myself learning sorcery. And yet I have." "Truthfully, Shang, deep down, part of me was flattered when you first asked me. Under different circumstances, I would've said possibly said 'yes' in the first place-had you not been a cruel, soul sucking, evil bastard." "As for this place.." She smiles, possibly the most relaxed smile he's ever seen on her. "well, we're both here, and I've told you before that being married to you is never dull, it might not be ideal, but then again life's never ideal." She actually reaches over the table and touches his hand. "In short, we made it this far, and according to you, we even made it far enough to conceive. I see no reason why we still try again, hell..think of this as a means of starting over without having to worry about a kingdom or realm." She takes a deep breath and lets it out. He smiled. He wasn’t sure he liked being so vulnerable, but it didn’t matter anymore. His life had changed in the last few days. In some ways it was for the worst, but now, in a lot of ways it was for the better. He didn’t pull away his hand, and he didn’t think any more about barriers, or anything of the like. He accepted her for who she was, and if she could still be married to him after all she had been through (most of it at his expense), then they might be able to make a marriage work. “No,” he agreed. “Life never is ideal… it never quite turns out the way you expect, but in several ways that element of surprise, is what makes life worth living in the first place. I’ve never been one to let me feelings out, and I’ve never been one to be vulnerable, but sometimes things change out of necessity. I’m in a new realm, and I think this might serve for redemption, or maybe it is punishment. Either way I’m going to make the most out of it. I’m assuming you’ll be staying?” He paused. “We have a few automobiles here, I haven’t driven because I don’t know how, but I imagine you do? You can use that to go to work I suppose. "I won't tell if you don't. I've a reputation of being an Ice Bitch, I can't let word go out that I've gone soft, or there's no way I'll be able to control the men under me in the army." She shakes her head. "I'm not really asking you to change completely, I never expected you to fully change anyway. I'm even used to dealing with you this way." "You've countless souls, surely one of them knows how to drive. I'll instruct you on ettiquette, so long as you don't 'change' too much." They're done with the second course, so the servants bring in the the main course-roast duck with noodles. As they're preparing the silverware, Sonya grins and leans close to him, grinning though it's not the completely cheerful grin she had on before. "my secret, part of me finds your 'deviousness' exciting-along with other 'traits'..the fact that I don't have to be completly 'good' around you." Shang Tsung thought to himself, but didn’t say anything aloud. He supposed that one of his souls would know how to drive… maybe he would try driving soon? It sounded like something new, and maybe entertaining… before today the realm had been quite boring. The duck was better than anything he had eaten thus far on the realm, and the noodles were good with it. “This is nice,” Shang Tsung said. “I usually don’t enjoy tranquility, part of me enjoys being in a big epic conflict… though I’m sure that is obvious. I don’t know how long I’m going to be here, but I could be spending my time in this realm with far worst people than you. I know thee side of you that you’re afraid to show, and let’s be honest… you’re quite good at being the ‘ice bitch.’ People who doubt you (such as Kano), and myself at a time… turn out to be quite shocked in the end. "I'm not a fan of tranquility either, both of us, we're too used to plotting and reacting and who knows, you might find yourself plotting against someone soon." She took a bite, swallowed and grin. "Thanks, I've had years of practice." She can't help but laugh at his mention of income. "Dear Tsung," She said back, almost copying his tone. "If I had only joined the army for the income, I would've been sorely disappointed." She smirks. "You know very well the reason I stay in the army, and pay has 'nothing' to do with it." "They don't treat warriors properly here it seems... pity." He took a bite, and considered what he said. "Yes Sonya, I am fully aware of the almost savage enjoyment you get out of combat. That is one of the many attractive things about you. I do, however, think that in time you should consider settling down. I can scarcely imagine I would be capable of being the same way I was in Outworld, and that the same time I know I can't completely change either. A snake can shed his skin, but he is still a snake." Shang Tsung took another bite. "This has been a decent meal. Who would have thought I'd have actually competent servants on this realm? I was going to kill them the first day, but I guess this realm has laws against killing those who deserve it. At least, that's what Charles said." He took a drink from his goblet. "You know, I'm the owner of several hotels throughout the nation. It's kind of pathetic that I would go from being the ruler of everything, to owning hotels." "Then again," he said. "I can live comfortably on this realm with the money I make... and I'm not obligated to share my palace with the likes of Reptile, or Baraka... they were useful warriors but they always sickened me. She frowned. "I'll 'settle down' when I'm good and ready for it...and no, don't think that if I ever get pregnant, I'll settle down. I'll settle just enough so that the baby doesn't get hurt, but you can be certain that when he or she is born I'll turn 'mother bear' instead of a 'mother hen'." She shrugged. "I don't know, nothing here is predictable, so I wouldn't count of anything as certain...and he's more or less right about the killing-sadly." She shakes her head. " It could be a lot worse you know..." She laughs at his last comment. " I rest my case. There is a war, but..it's rather stupid as far as I've read on it." She tells him about the war in the middle east. "It's not about conquering or defending really, just some geezers that want to play war hero but are too thin skinned to do it themselves." "I see," he said. "That is one thing I think we do right on Outworld. Me and Shao Kahn were always apart of our conquests. I don't see the point in starting a war, that you yourself cannot fight in." "If last weekend is any concern, I don't think we could really take 'peace' for granted here." They just finished their dinner as dessert was brought out. Strawberries in thickened, sweet cream that was spiced with cinnamon. However, Sonya noted his yawn and an idea formed in her head. She grinned slyly, standing up to slowly walk over to his seat. She leaned over and 'not quite' whispered in his ear. "If you want excitement, how about telling the servants to put dessert on ice and serving us later-in your bed chambers." Sonya leaned against the edge of the table. "Your bedchamber, now." She leaned toward him a little. "I've been less enthusiastic about the marriage and even a little glad that you're no longer on a rampage for souls. However..." she pauses, letting it sink in. "When it comes to having sex with you, I don't want anything to change-not even from that one night together during the Outworld tournament." She doesn't bother covering up the excitement in her voice. As much as she disliked him than, she wouldn't deny that it did relieve her of the tension from being in the cell, and the secrecy of it made it even more erotic. "I haven't forgotten." Damn, but he did know how to torture her, the kiss made her want him even more and yet he seemed to start undressing so slowly. She smirked. Two could play at this game, she thought as she unpinned the brooch and slowly took off the over dress, underneath was a thin, silk undertunic of a brighter green than the gown that laced up the front.She tried to remain at a slow pace, deliberately teasing him as she undressed, wondering at how far she could push back.
