Who: Tony Stark, Thirteen, James Rhodes and Sophie Stark
Where: Stark Mansion in New York
When: Monday afternoon
Why: Tony's gotta intro his best friend to the little missus and kidlets
Rating: PG-13 at most for anything discussing

Sir, Colonel Rhodes is on his way. Shouldn't you be preparing for his arrival?

"In a minute, Jarvis. Just have to finish one...small....detail--there. All done," he said as he dropped the very fine tipped paintbrush onto the desk. Tony normally would have had Jarvis render the Mark II in an array of colors just to make fun of Rhodey's weekend wedding to a guy, but he figured a small rainbow delicately painted inside of the helmet where only he could see it would be substantial enough. Until he decided to take it off.

He'd already been down there for hours running scans, diagnostics and what have you on the Mark II, so he was thoroughly grimey and he wasn't sure just when Rhodey would get there. But anyone who looked at Tony could tell he was happy he was on his way. He'd really missed having his best friend around. Then a baby cooed which distracted Tony from his decision to finally go and shower. He smiled and walked over to Remy, who was holding the baby in her arms, bouncing him lightly to entertain him. He was definitely a Stark with the jet black hair and the curiosity for mechanical things since Edward currently had his gaze on Butterfingers, who was pinching motions at Edward as if he might go for the cheeks.

"Hey, if you pinch him and leave a mark, I'm using you for spare parts on his future tricycle," he said as he wagged a finger at Butterfingers. The robot drooped as he was chastised and retreated off to go and do something else. "I'm going to go get cleaned up before he gets here. Might as well look like a family man and not a bum," he said, kissing her first then kissing Edward on the top of his head.

Sophie blinked once or twice at the sudden silence in her room and scowled in Jarvis' general direction. She knew he'd see it anyway. Stomping out of her room, she slammed her door shut and practically mowed down her mother coming down the hallway.

Her mood did improve somewhat dramatically when she found out the exact reason WHY Daddy was being an ass (this time) and ran down the rest of the hallway into the room where everybody was.

"UNCLE RHODEY! You took your sweet time getting here!" she yelled out as she practically leaped on him to give him a huge bear hug.

"Good to see you too Jarvis," Rhodey chuckled. This really was almost like being back home, except Tony had a wife and two kids. And there was another Tony.

Now, if Tony was paying attention, he'd have noticed a flash of surprise on Rhodey's face before Sophie barreled into him. For one moment he was caught off guard, and then he chuckled and returned the hug. "Yeah yeah, next time I'll fly into more tornadoes." He was only teasing, of course, and his tone made the jest pretty clear.

It wasn't the teenager flying at him that surprised him, it was the 'uncle Rhodey' part. When he took a second to think about it, he figured it made sense. She was from the future, so the first time through, when she aged naturally, she would have grown up with him around.

So, after figuring that out, and taking another second to be amazed at how well he was taking the whole time traveling thing, he put his hands on his hips and raised one eyebrow. "So what's this I hear about you listening to emo? Now I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure that future me taught you better than that." He was still grinning, though. The family resemblance was definitely there, and he could see more than a little Tony in the way she held herself. This was a trip alright, but it was a good trip.

"Told you that'd get her out of her room," he said with a smirk, gently ribbing Rhodey. "Hey, you never greet me like that when I come home. Now I feel under appreciated. See, I'll remember that when you want to borrow the Jag for some funtime with my credit card at the mall." Tony was just kidding, of course, because when did he really tell her no? Well, unless it had to do with some boy and then it turned into an immediate lockdown.

"Now, she can tell you the story of how she almost had to help her mother deliver her brother because we were all stuck in the medieval era and I passed out as soon as I saw what was coming." That was a fun time, and he was sure if he was in someone else's shoes for it, he'd have laughed at the whole crumpled body thing. "And if the crappy music keeps up from your room, young lady, I'm disowning you. No spawn of mine would listen to that noise pollution. Maybe I should have Jarvis replace all of your mp3s."

It was good how everything just fell into place, how Rhodey just automatically fell into step with the way things were around here. Like he'd always been here.

Remy snorted slightly, "And he calls himself Iron Man. Passed out completely right in the middle of it so I basically had to both give birth and catch the poor kid.. thankfully he's just fine.." she bounced Edward in her arms just slightly. "Yeah all right.. no being fussy.. I'll be right back.."

She headed upstairs and put Edward down for his nap. It didn't take him long to pass out, it seemed like once he was laid down in his crib he was out like a light. She grabbed the baby monitor and headed back down the stairs to rejoin the party.

"Are we still berating her about her music choices? Hey at least it's not boy bands, it could be worse..'

"Daddy. I have two words for you. Kenny Chesney. Think about that." Sophie scowled at her father. Teenagers love to be mocked for their music choices. Really. Well known fact wasn't it.

With an evil glint in her eye, she smirked at Tony. "Oh, but wouldn't it be much more interesting to talk about the time Mom and I planned on adjusting the color scheme of your suit? I still think the sparkles would offset the pink helmet nicely. What do you think, Uncle Rhodey?"

Now Rhodey's eyes swiveled to Tony. "Chesney? Man, please tell me you don't listen to Chesney. Please." Rhodey probably didn't know the whole story there, but if Tony had actually picked up a Chesney fixation, he lost the right to doubt anyone else's musical tastes.

And then Sophie dropped the sparkle-bomb, and Rhodey's eyes lit up like Christmas morning. The image of Tony being stuck with a pink suit until he could get home and fix it was perhaps the most hilarious image he'd been suggested in a while. He looked from Sophie to Remy and back. "...Now what sort of a thing is that to do to a man's supersuit?" Then very quietly, he whispered to Sophie, "You two are brilliant and if there are any more of these ideas I want in."

"What? No!" his eyes widening just as much as Rhodey's. "No way! You should know me better than that, and getting married hasn't changed me that much." Though his eyes were shifting slightly. married life had changed him but for the better. He didn't drink nearly as much, his heart was whole again, and he hadn't really had to don the suit like he used to.

Then his eyes narrowed considerably. "Traitors, all of you. This is mutiny, though just you wait until you put your suit on, platypus. You have fun with your pleasant surprise when you put it on." And Tony wasn't going to tell him anything more about that rainbow he painted on the inside of the HUD.

"I'm sure he did something to deserve it.." she said pointedly. "He still opens his mouth and inserts his foot constantly.." she reassured Rhodey. He hadn't changed that much. Even when it came to the other women thing, though he'd forgotten about Pepper, and that's the way she was keeping it. "And we're never saying that Ch name in this house again," Just thinking about listening to country music was enough to give her the hives.

"So uh.. is anyone hungry? We could order food or something.." she offered. "Well as long as I don't get called in. And by called in I mean if House doesn't decide to prank call me and tell me there's some huge accident. I'm only going in if Cuddy calls.." she said as she stuck her hands in her pockets.

"Yes, Daddy did deserve it, and if it comes down to my having to follow through on my threat Mom? I promise to only have Jarvis play that in the workroom." Sophie smiled sweetly at her family and made a mental note to be exceptionally sweet to Jarvis as well. He may be just a robot, but he seemed to appreciate more than anyone else a good joke on his creator.

"Can we order chinese? Then if House calls in you can read off your dinner order and confuse him for a little bit. A few seconds maybe, but it will probably be worth it."

Rhodey pondered this whole "House call" situation and briefly thought of using some of that patented military bluster to turn the tables on him, but ultimately decided not to. It would be hilarious, but stood a good chance of backfiring if this House guy had half a brain. "I think they'll be able to hear the scream in three different universes," he laughed.

That's when what Tony said registered. "Man what did you do?" He thought about asking if Tony had rigged up the beams to shoot rainbows, but decided not to give him any ideas. "No, wait, I probably don't wanna know."

After hearing both Sophie and Remy comment on this House person, he whistled. "I'm guessing we don't like this House guy? How much dislike are we talking here? Mildly annoying, or punch in the face?"

"You just keep talking yourself out of your suit more and more, Sophie. Hmm, I could use it for parts for mine when I break something on it," Tony said, tapping at his chin. Whether he was just screwing with her or not remained to be seen, but if he heard one note of shitty country in his workshop, that suit was so getting dismantled while she watched. Yes, he loathed it that much.

"Nothing," he shrugged, "...major," but he gave this shifty look to Rhodey that meant he had done something, but he wasn't going to say one way or another. "House is just annoying, from the stories I hear. He's harmless I think." Which the only reason he thought that of House was because he didn't know what he'd done.

"Chinese is fine with me. You know I'll eat anything as long as there's meat in it. And soy sauce."

Remy almost wanted to roll her eyes at the whole suit thing. No one ever asked her if she wanted a suit. Oh well. Guess it had to do something about her being a woman. And she already had a motorcycle. She didn't know.

"House is my boss.." she explained, even if Tony had said that he was annoying. "And he is annoying. I'm a doctor.. I work over at Kent Memorial.. technically Cuddy's more of my boss because I run the clinic now.. instead of working actually for House. But he calls to harass me.." and other things. But that was another matter. "Besides, he's a cripple, just kick him in his bad leg.."

Chinese was good with her. "Yeah okay, I'll go get the menus.." she toddled off to go to the kitchen and get them before coming back. She already knew what she wanted though. She also had taken the phone so that she could place the order when they all decided. "What do you guys want then?"

Sophie opened her mouth to complain, and then reconsidered and shut it again. She was pretty sure she could get Jarvis to help her behind his back, but life would be a lot easier if Daddy did it for her. Now she just needed a name...

"Shrimp lo mein for me. I'm not that hungry."

Rhodey watched the exchange with Tony and Sophie, noting that she backed down awfully easy. Smart kid. Just like her dad. He grinned in spite of the situation. This was great. His best friend was happy, had a great family... Rhodey couldn't be happier for him. He would probably even overlook whatever little surprise Tony had thrown into his suit. Unless it really did shoot rainbows.

"General Tso's for me." Rhodey would pretty much eat anything, much like Tony, but he was in the mood for the General's today.

Then he chuckled a little at Remy. "This guy sounds like a real winner." Rhodey made a mental note to "accidentaly" bump into this guy's bad leg if he ever met the guy.

Right when Sophie looked like she might open her mouth, Tony stuck his finger up and gave her that look that screamed 'ah-ah shut it now or no suit'. Sophie was just as bad as Tony, and that was why they knew how to handle one another.

"I'll eat whatever Remy's eating," he said with a shrug. Yeah, they could call him henpecked for all he cared, but he'd usually eat off her plate anyway.

"I wouldn't worry about House. If he knows what's good for him, he won't annoy my wife or I'll give him two limps. Well, maybe I won't but I bet I could scare the hell out of him by blowing up his bike." He really wouldn't do that kind of thing. Okay, yeah, he would but still.

Remy was just kind of glad that there was a friend of Tony's who actually had some sense and would hopefully keep him out of trouble. Well really big trouble. Maybe. That and he didn't have tits and an ass and wasn't in love with him, so that was probably for the best too. "Gotcha.. and no blowing up House's bike or he'll... be evil and take mine.. that's a no no.."

She gave Tony a look and then went to go order their chinese food, letting them talk amongst themselves for a while.

Sophie slouched down in a chair and tried to think up a topic to discuss that didn't involve pranking Daddy (while Daddy was still in the room. The best pranks were the ones where he couldn't prove it was you.)

"So... Uncle Rhodey. Are you going to keep your promise and teach me how to fight? Back when I'm from you promised to teach me self-defense. My weekends are free, and it's a very dangerous world here. Ask Daddy how he met Mom in the first place."

She smiled sweetly and attempted to look the most innocent and vulnerable she'd ever looked before. Who knows? Maybe it would work this time since HE didn't remember her growing up around him.

Rhodey looked from Sophie to Tony and back again. Somehow he got the feeling there was more going on here than what he was aware of, but he wasn't sure what. Sophie didn't look like she was trying to pull anything...

He looked back to Tony for a second, and then looked back at Sophie. "If your parents are cool with it, then yeah, I'll teach you how to fight." He definitely wasn't going to teach her if her parents didn't approve. While he did think that she should know how to defend herself, especially in a world where there were both good and bad super-people in abundance, he wasn't going to overstep his boundaries.

Publicly, and in front of her parents, that was his story. If this was something she reeeeeally wanted, and if she knew how to be quiet and subtle about it, then maybe he'd consider doing it on the sly. Mostly because of the aforementioned belief that she really should know at least a few self-defense techniques in a world like this one.

Tony would kick the shit out of House if he even thought about taking Remy's bike, nevermind what else he'd rig up against him. He was sure he could convince Cuddy to let him into House's office sometime so mess with his computer. And usually with Sophie and Tony, there was always something deeper going on. The two of them had superhuman levels of subterfuge at times. "I don't know," he replied, combing his fingers through his goatee. "Well, I guess there isn't any harm in it. Because I'd rather you keep the boys at bay instead of me. I'm liable to break something important."

If Rhodey was going to secretly teach her, it wouldn't have surprised Tony in the slightest, but if he found out, that suit of his was definitely going to shoot rainbows. Maybe even a cloud of sparkles as he flew. "So, do you plan to work for Stark Industries again? We could always use a liaison, or hell, you could run your own division. So much for the weapons manufacturing stopping in this world. It seems like every time I turn around, something is threatening this place in a big end of the world kind of way."
