Who: Everyone involved in the Solomon's Crown plot
Where: a private meeting hall in Italy
What: Suiting up, comparing notes, eating dinner
When: Early evening, Milan time

The meeting hall was not huge. It could have been any meeting hall in any library in the world. The fact that it was filled to the brim with food that technically wasn't supposed to be there was the only thing that set the room apart from any other.

The people inside the room, however, were such a varied amalgam that there was no mistaking this for a book of the month club meeting.

There were maps of Israel and Jerusalem pinned to the walls, and various scribblings in both English and Creole on the sides. A stack of neat notes, written in Italian, were on the table, far away from the food. A photocopied packet of the notes was by each of the seven seats.

"But it's an adventure." Aramis pointed out with a soft laugh before he glanced at his lover thoughtfully. "We can pull back if you'd like, love." He offered softly, reaching up to brush his fingers through his lover's soft hair.

"Don't be foolish," Athos moved away from the fingers, frowning a bit, "I've never backed down from an adventure, even a poorly planned one," He looked around the room again, "When will we begin?"

"I just thought...maybe the retired life was more welcoming." Aramis shrugged, looking away as his hands made themselves at home in the pockets of his jeans. He shrugged again in response to Athos' question, pouting a little bit.

Athos gave Aramis a deadpan stare, raising his eyebrow, "Are you sulking?" He questioned, crossing his arms.

He pursed his lips slightly, not even bothering to look at Athos. In other words: yes, he was sulking. Aramis got moody when Athos would get snappy at him.

"oh please," Athos laughed and shook his head, "You look like a mopey, over grown child, you know," He nudged Aramis as he leaned in to whisper in his ear, "You know, if we live through this, I think it is about time we had that wedding you asked me about months ago now."

Aramis looked at him, tilting his head to the side slightly. "Are you serious, or are you just attempting to get me out of this mope temporarily?" He didn't want this to end up being a bit tease on Athos' part.

"Can it not be both?" Athos grinned slightly as he began to walk over to the other side of the room, looking over his shoulder with a smug little smile.

Though the older man didn't enjoy the smug smile and instead frowned a bit, turning back to look over the maps. He didn't exactly believe that Athos would finally be willing to have the wedding and truly didn't enjoy being teased about it.

Athos wasn't going to let his own odd giddiness over a new adventure be burst by this little fit of Aramis' and he merely shrugged when he went to looking up at the ceiling about ten feet away from Aramis.

"Well, if you don't want the wedding soon, by all means, we can keep waiting. I will attend any date you set," He pulled out his sword and began to weigh it in his palm, fingers working it to twirl it slightly.

"Forgive me if I don't believe you." Aramis answered softly, fingers brushing over the map, tracing one of the lines on it thoughtfully. "And I want it to be a joint effort. I want you to help me pick the date." He sighed and shook his head.

"Oh, and forgive me if I don't get as excited as some about marriage," Athos muttered, not caring for the implication of Aramis' tone, "For it has always been so very successful for me," He was now moping, yes. But he wanted to marry Aramis and be done with it. Have the wedding past them. He really just felt embarrassed by his own failures of the past still and did not like the idea of being in the spotlight at such an occasion, but he'd do it for Aramis.

"I don't care if you get excited. I just want you to seem like you really actually do want to marry me. Not act like I'm forcing you into a relationship you don't want." Aramis snapped, hanging his head. He wasn't the ideal partner for a young man like Athos and thus had many insecurities about their relationship as a whole.

After staring at the floor for a moment he moved away from the wall and went to take a seat, pulling out the file of notes and such, starting to look through them.

"You couldn't force me into anything ever, Aramis, I have always willingly followed after you," He pointed out, scoffing as he glanced over at the man, "Do you not understand how I could possibly feel a shame during all this?" He shook his head, "An awkwardness over my past?"

"I'm not a fickle woman who'd be willing to leave you or deceive you. You know me and yet you still feel awkward and that's just ridiculous." He huffed. "You don't have to be fearful, Athos. I wish you'd realize that."

"I am not fearful!" Athos snapped, furrowing his brow, "I am ashamed of my blindness to what was obviously always there, and I worry something else will go wrong with this, while I very much wish otherwise! It is not ridiculous, how dare you," He shook his head and moved towards the door and back again, pacing, "All because I've not settled in, know all and have seen all like you, does not mean you can insult me!"

Belle cleared her throat and stood. "Gentlemen, please."

He glanced at Belle, seeming suddenly embarrassed. "Sorry, my lady." Aramis murmured as he stood, moving to Athos' side. "We will be back in just a moment, if you'll excuse us." Taking his lover's arm he led the disgruntled young man out into the hallway, turning toward him. "Athos." Aramis stated softly, reaching up to touch his lover's cheek. "I didn't mean to insult you..."

"My apologies," Athos murmured, bowing his head to Belle though he scowled when his arm was taken, going out into the hall and stepping away from Aramis, shaking his head away from the touch, "You did so, old man, there is no use in apologies. You practically called me a coward, Aramis. In front of strangers! What of honour, what of oaths, what of brotherhood? What of love? Hm? I am a fool for having married once, how can I possibly know, without doubt, that I am not a fool for marrying again?"

Aramis stood there looking helpless and for once - tired. He was old, he was stubborn and now his young lover was upset with him. "Perhaps we should just call it off, then?" The man murmured with a scoff, glancing at the floor. "So you won't be possibly made a fool for marrying me and I won't take the chance of hurting you." The man turned his back on his lover, arms crossed over his chest as he stared down the hall.

"And now you wish to call it off," Athos muttered, shaking his head with disbelief, "Call off what has kept me happy for these weeks, these months. Call off something you offered when I was at the brink, and now will take away again?" He scowled deeply, shaking his head more, "Fine. Take it away. Take it all away, Aramis, I do not care! Go, go and dream your....dreams of another, of someone who is as old as you, as wise! I am not that man, and I never will be," He glared at Aramis' back, not wanting to leave, not wanting to win this, not wanting it to be over. Not by a long shot.

"Athos!" Aramis snapped irritably as he turned and looked at the younger man, seeming upset. "I want you to be my husband, but you've seemed so hesitant. You act as if you don't want to marry me and yet claim it's what keeps you happy? I don't understand that and I don't want any other I want you, you foolish young thing." He huffed, rubbing a hand over his face tiredly.

"I just don't want you to regret this. I don't want to be another...another failed relationship in your life. I want you to be happy with or without me. Can't you understand that?"

"The act and the motions are two different things!" Athos pointed out, "I want to marry you, Aramis. I would not have said yes if I did not! But with my past I have my doubts! A man has right to those," He bristled at the 'young thing' comment, "I am not young, I am a man in every way, musketeer for more than half my life."

"You are tired by me. You are frustrated by me. You barely ever laugh at what I say anymore, and I do not think I've gotten less humourous. You are what makes me happy, but I am what makes you melancholy, and that is not a fair exchange."

"You do not make me melancholy, Athos." Aramis frowned a little. "I've had much on my mind as of late. I'm getting old. I'm starting to truly realize it now and it's..." He shook his head. "I took on this adventure to feel young again. You help me feel young. Athos..." The older man looked helpless once more.

"I'm sorry." He murmured pathetically, shaking his head. "You do make me happy."

"Then we will go on this adventure and see," Athos looked away from Aramis, "We will see if it makes you happier than I can and we will know," He rested his hand on his sword, looking back to the doors, "We should go back inside. Belle would not approve of this foolishness. We have made enough problems for her." The problem was, Athos was sure he could fight by this man, work with this man, just to see the excitement he knew a good battle gave Aramis. That he would put the man's enjoyment of life well over his own was an issue, seeing as it was supposed to be all for one and one for all, not one before another.
