Who: Everyone involved in the Solomon's Crown plot
Where: a private meeting hall in Italy
What: Suiting up, comparing notes, eating dinner
When: Early evening, Milan time

The meeting hall was not huge. It could have been any meeting hall in any library in the world. The fact that it was filled to the brim with food that technically wasn't supposed to be there was the only thing that set the room apart from any other.

The people inside the room, however, were such a varied amalgam that there was no mistaking this for a book of the month club meeting.

There were maps of Israel and Jerusalem pinned to the walls, and various scribblings in both English and Creole on the sides. A stack of neat notes, written in Italian, were on the table, far away from the food. A photocopied packet of the notes was by each of the seven seats.

Aramis stood there looking helpless and for once - tired. He was old, he was stubborn and now his young lover was upset with him. "Perhaps we should just call it off, then?" The man murmured with a scoff, glancing at the floor. "So you won't be possibly made a fool for marrying me and I won't take the chance of hurting you." The man turned his back on his lover, arms crossed over his chest as he stared down the hall.

"And now you wish to call it off," Athos muttered, shaking his head with disbelief, "Call off what has kept me happy for these weeks, these months. Call off something you offered when I was at the brink, and now will take away again?" He scowled deeply, shaking his head more, "Fine. Take it away. Take it all away, Aramis, I do not care! Go, go and dream your....dreams of another, of someone who is as old as you, as wise! I am not that man, and I never will be," He glared at Aramis' back, not wanting to leave, not wanting to win this, not wanting it to be over. Not by a long shot.

"Athos!" Aramis snapped irritably as he turned and looked at the younger man, seeming upset. "I want you to be my husband, but you've seemed so hesitant. You act as if you don't want to marry me and yet claim it's what keeps you happy? I don't understand that and I don't want any other I want you, you foolish young thing." He huffed, rubbing a hand over his face tiredly.

"I just don't want you to regret this. I don't want to be another...another failed relationship in your life. I want you to be happy with or without me. Can't you understand that?"

"The act and the motions are two different things!" Athos pointed out, "I want to marry you, Aramis. I would not have said yes if I did not! But with my past I have my doubts! A man has right to those," He bristled at the 'young thing' comment, "I am not young, I am a man in every way, musketeer for more than half my life."

"You are tired by me. You are frustrated by me. You barely ever laugh at what I say anymore, and I do not think I've gotten less humourous. You are what makes me happy, but I am what makes you melancholy, and that is not a fair exchange."

"You do not make me melancholy, Athos." Aramis frowned a little. "I've had much on my mind as of late. I'm getting old. I'm starting to truly realize it now and it's..." He shook his head. "I took on this adventure to feel young again. You help me feel young. Athos..." The older man looked helpless once more.

"I'm sorry." He murmured pathetically, shaking his head. "You do make me happy."

"Then we will go on this adventure and see," Athos looked away from Aramis, "We will see if it makes you happier than I can and we will know," He rested his hand on his sword, looking back to the doors, "We should go back inside. Belle would not approve of this foolishness. We have made enough problems for her." The problem was, Athos was sure he could fight by this man, work with this man, just to see the excitement he knew a good battle gave Aramis. That he would put the man's enjoyment of life well over his own was an issue, seeing as it was supposed to be all for one and one for all, not one before another.

"I don't want to go." Aramis stated softly after a moment, looking at his lover with sad eyes. "I can't go and stand by your side knowing you're upset with me." He scoffed and moved to take a seat on a bench in the hallway, rubbing at his eyes.

"Aramis, don't be foolish. We've gone into fights where we weren't even speaking, and we came out fine," He shook his head, "I'm going. And you are, too." He adjusted his sword, "I'm not upset with you."

"You are." He scoffed a little, shaking his head. "You are upset and I don't...want you to be. This is different than before." The old man looked at the ground, frowning. "I'm sorry." Epically miserable he put his head in his hands.

"Aramis," Athos rolled his eyes, crossing his arms and squaring his shoulders, "Stop it. There is no need to apologize. There is only a need to focus. We need to get back in there and get ourselves prepared." Focus on something other than how they were fighting at least.

Athos wasn't going to put this all behind them and that made Aramis feel hopeless. So instead he just nodded. "Fine." He stood and brushed silently passed Athos, heading back into the room, once more taking a seat. There wasn't any point in talking more, was there?

"Fine," Athos stated quietly as the man walked by, feeling his heart just sink. He hated fighting with Aramis, but he had to get them back on task. They had said they would help Belle, and so they would. Fight or not.

He walked back in and headed over to the maps once more, nodding towards Belle to try and signal it was over. They would play nicely now.

She nodded at them.

"If you two are unable to work together, this is the most opportune time to tell me. I won't have you putting yourselves and the rest of us at risk."

Her voice was soft and mild. "Just because I am a friend to one of you does not mean that I will you come along if you're distracted."
