My girlfriend's told me there are other people here who used to be cars. Is that true?

Well if it's a case of reprogramming then it's hardly your fault and I can't really blame you. So no destruction there either, not unless there was nothing else to do.

Even with hunting, there's not always black and white, there's a lot of gray, especially with the smarter ones, like vampires. They aren't all evil, and some of them just want to be left alone, don't hurt anyone.

Thank you. It's not my first choice, either. I'm hoping it won't happen again. *frowns* I wonder. Hmm.

That makes me feel better. I'm heartened to hear that even those creatures traditionally thought of as 'evil' can have some redeeming qualities, even if it's only on an individual basis. That's the way of the world, I suppose.

Exactly, even a lot of hunters don't see that though, sometimes it's easier to just lump all the critters together into the 'evil' category, because nine times out of ten yeah, they're going to want to eat you, or worse.

But once in a while, needle in a haystack there's one that's just trying to stay alive. Doesn't really mean to hurt anyone.

Well of course it is. And that's the way of the world, too. You can't argue against the numbers, unless you're the one just trying to stay alive.

Are there any other hunters here, then? It sounds like you have a network.

Just me and the boys so far as I know, and I don't know if I really count.

And we didn't have a network, not really, just a few places where we knew to go to find others, people who knew people who knew other people and so on, nothing really organized.

Why wouldn't you count? Because you were a car?

A web, then. Interesting. You said before you felt normal here. If you had the chance to go back, would you? Or would you stay?

Yeah. Sure, I was a mode of transportation, place to keep things, occasional protective covering, but I don't know that I was any real help when it came to hunting. At least here I'm useful.

And ... I don't know. If I could stay like this and go back? I probably would. But I wouldn't want to do it alone, and I certainly wouldn't want to drag the boys back with me. They're happy here.

I think you'd be surprised, Che. Why don't you ask them?

*nodding* That's understandable. I have to wonder if people are chosen to come here.

Heh. Well, I suppose I was a little bit like home too. Sam always slept better in the car than anywhere else, even when he was small.

I've been wondering that myself, actually, apparently there isn't any rhyme or reason to it, it's completely random.

It sounds like you're part of the family.

I don't know. I'll have to talk to more people, find out their stories, what was going on in their lives when they were picked up and brought here.

That's what I've been thinking, that there has to be some sort of common thread, no matter how faint.

Exactly. I find it hard to believe that there's no rhyme or reason behind this.

What was happening in your lives when you were brought here?

I'm from some time later than my boys, and things were... well, they weren't good. Not by a long shot. Longer shot than we're used to even.

And as far as I can tell, as far as I've seen, they're from when things started to go wrong.

Similar to what was happening with Hattie and myself. A seemingly impossible situation, with no clear or easy solutions. If that's how it's gone for other people here, we may be onto something.

Could very well be.

Hm. Guess we'll just have to ask around, see what's what.

Indeed. I think we will. If nothing else, it will give me something to do. I'm feeling at a bit of a loss.

Well if you're any good with a wrench or an airbrush you're welcome to come help out at the shop sometime.

I'm the boss, I get to make that kind of decision. It's pretty awesome.

*laughs* I can't say I've ever worked on a car before, Che. I wonder if I could translate my knowledge of being a car to repair work. But thank you for the offer. I'll keep it in mind, boss.

That's pretty much how I do it, actually. Go by sound, vibrations, whatever. I think having been sentient as a car helps too. Can tell the difference between a slipped belt and a stripped gear because I know what it's like to have one.

I guess I won't know until I try. It's not like I don't know how everything works and where it goes. This could be a fit.

It's such a relief to be able to talk to another car. Even if we're both humans, now.

I know exactly what you mean. Sure, talking to people who know about cars is close, but it's ... really not the same.

Not really, no. It's difficult being so different from the people around you. I'm glad I'm not alone in that regard anymore.

Che... is it possible to meet in person somewhere?

Sure. I'm in London, live with the boys, though I do have a place of my own, and there's always the shop.

There's also a really good pizza place not too far from home. I pretty much walk everywhere, don't know how to drive, and riding is still a little weird.

Did you have anywhere in particular in mind?

I could teach you how to drive at some point, if you like. I definitely know what you mean about riding in another car.

Pizza sounds good. Hattie and I are in London, too. We're not familiar with the area, so we'll follow your lead on that one. It will be nice to meet with you, Che. After talking like this, I'm looking forward to it. Is there a good time for you?

It's 3 AM here, so I'm going to head out, but I'll be around tomorrow if you want to set something up.

Thanks for the convo - he's starting to feel better about being here. :)
