It seems that an extraordinary localized disturbance in both weather and space-time has resulted in my relocation to what appears to be Earth, several hundreds of years before my own time.

Fascinating.

I infer from the natural ease with which the technology of this time has led me to this text-based forum that mine is not an unheard-of experience.

[OOC: Please do continue to tag through tomorrow. I know probably not many people are up right now, but Spock mun keeps very strange hours and needs something to do during work. And please do forgive me for disappearing at random and answering slowly. I have work and school and ADD. :P]

You've certainly come a long way. Not only in time, but in distance as well.

Your name is quite unusual. And no, not unheard of.

I have. I would have come a long way even if my travels had not landed me here.

My name is usual enough for my time and place of birth. And if my manner of relocation is not unheard of, I wonder if you might be willing and able to enlighten me as to the best course of action from here?

I suppose that is true. Intergalactic travel hasn't been invented yet, nor in my personal lifetime, so I'm afraid I can't fathom it.

I can try, Spock. Have you read the [website]? If so, I would check your pockets for identification.

I have read it just now. I see that my pockets do contain identification and what appears to be a number of plastic cards for various purposes, all belonging to a person who is not myself. Am I to understand, then, that I have replaced this individual, and that all of his belongings including his place of residence are now mine?

Correct. If you tell me what pictures the cards have on them, I can assist you with what purpose they serve.

Some of them have bar codes. An outdated technology, but I suppose the only efficient option in this world. They bear names I assume to be those of businesses. Are these some sort of currency?

I have two other cards with a series of numbers on the front, and a magnetic strip on the back. I am unable to determine what purpose these serve.

Correct. The business institutions keep track of how actual currency you would have used to purchase goods with them, and at a later point, you repay the businesses the currency with an additional fee.

They may be keys for doors or something. Do you have anything with a photo on it?

I see.

Yes, I do. Would I be correct in assuming that this world has somehow reassigned my identity in order for me to have a place in it?

Correct. Furthermore, if there's an address, it's likely your home.

You sound like Sheldon

It looks like you've gotten the website... Welcome to wherever we are!

I believe I am in the city known as London.

I thank you for your welcome, miss... May Ihave a name to call you?

Oh, London is lovely!

I'm Melpomene. You'll find everyone else on these boards to either also be transplants, or descended from transplants.

Fascinating. You bear the name of an ancient Terran deity. I am not aware of it being a common name at any point in Earth's history.

I am Spock. It is gratifying to meet individuals of such a welcoming nature.

Oh, it's not a common name at all - it's apparently a bit of a mouthful, but it's the only name I've got. The Romans never renamed us. :)

Well met, Spock!

Dr. McCoy?

You seem... different, somehow.

Well, looks like you've got yourself the official welcome wagon, but I'm here to add that if you ever find yourself in need of a drink, c'mon by the Snake Pit at the edge of old New Orleans.

A drink?

Perhaps my observations thus far, given their incomplete nature, have led me to a misunderstanding -- but water does not seem to be an unavailable commodity here.

Stuff I've got's a little stronger than water, sugar. They don't have alcohol where you come from?

Oh, they certainly do. Certain companions of mine indulge in it frequently. I do not; but if your "Snake Pit" serves less intoxicating substances, I would be happy to become better acquainted with you and the part of the world you inhabit.

Sure we do. We've got just about everything, this is New Orleans after all, and I'm from somewhere where we have to brew our own drinks, kind of nice not to have to around here.

Not uncommon at all, as I've come to learn myself since I arrived. It's a somewhat surprising dynamic with its unpredictable nature. I'm often given to wondering how this world continues to function, given the randomness and frequency of its occurrence.

Most curious. And yet, there seems to be little awareness of such unusual occurrences among the majority population here.

I would be interested in learning more of this world. I am Spock; you are another recent arrival here, I take it?
