It had been a week since he and Wanda had gone dark, but he couldn't ignore the feeling that it just wasn't enough. He knew it was different from what had happened in Bucharest; the authorities weren't on high alert, weren't looking for him. It was only Stark that they had to be worried about. But he hadn't kept ahead of everyone as long as he had back in their own universe without a sharp awareness of everything, and knowing when things weren't right.
Sleeping wasn't going well either, as much as he tried. He would sit awake and observe the city below while Wanda slept, or he would walk the streets of the lively city for a few hours. He'd chosen to walk this time, making sure to let Wanda know that he just needed some air so that she wouldn't worry. Part of him still didn't understand why she just accepted him, despite everything, but he knew deep down that it didn't matter. She was his friend now.
The newspaper stand propped up on the side of the road caught his attention. He didn't expect to get much information from it, not with the shield that kept them trapped, but he walked the rest of the way down the street and picked up one. There was nothing of consequence, like he thought, but then he heard someone turning the corner at the street's end. He wouldn't be able to get off the street fast enough without looking suspicious, so he remained there with the paper in his hands -- in the hope that the person would ignore him.
