In this case, maybe it was neither - maybe it was both. He knew that she was holding back, but what she had said made him consider the very small chance that she was right. Maybe they weren’t so different, if they were talking bare bones. And it was true, he wasn't comfortable with it. But the only option he had was the ways of communication he and Steve had used in the war. They could work for a long time, it wasn’t likely Stark could decipher things only he and Steve knew, but he wasn’t going to stake his life on that likelihood. Reaching into the pocket of his jacket, Bucky retrieved his phone - turned off since he'd gone dark - and held it out to Daisy. His gaze conveyed that he was choosing to trust her, even if that choice would land him in worse shit then he was in already. If it did end up like that, well - he'd deal with that situation when it showed up. He watched her turn on the phone and start working, his mind mulling over what she had told him - in not so many words. He hadn't stopped running, unless the fact that he was trapped here counted against it, but the rest of what she'd said rang truer than he was willing to admit out loud. He believed that no one should be around him, yet people like Steve and Wanda continued to keep him in their lives. He was a danger to every single person here, but what or whoever brought them all here decided it would bring him here too. He hoped, deep down, that anyone who knew the words wouldn't show up. If that happened, it would only be a matter of time before he became the Soldier again. And that connected with the last thing she had told him. Someone had died because of her, but countless had died because of him. And he would never forget. |
