Hi, I'm new here and finally out of quarantine. I wasn't sure what to do with myself now that my brother and I are here. I'm fifteen, but I can do lots of different jobs. I know we will need money.

Also, this world is so wonderous, so different than where I'm from. Is there some way to learn more about all the science and machines here?

There's laws here in this land that state if you're under eighteen you're required to be in some kind of school. I think. I know there's a school for us Displaced kids but I go to the local high school myself.

I'm James by the way.

Hi James, I'm Alphonse. It's nice to meet you! Oh, I've never been to school really but I know what it is. I like learning things. Would that be a good way to learn more about how this world works?

Likewise. And yeah, it's a good way to learn more about this world. Though I would suggest going to the EPS school for the Displaced if you aren't from a version of this world. People will probably be less likely to tease you and stuff for not knowing how certain things are. 'Cause there's a lot of history to this planet and it can get complicated.

Ah. Okay. I'll let my brother know. He doesn't like being teased. This world is not like where we are from, but then again, maybe this is the future of it? We had telephones, but they were in houses or carried in backpacks with wires. Now they have no wires with the new technology here. I will have to find history books to try to learn more about this.

It's a possibility. I mean, I'm technically from the future but the future I come from is kinda bleak. But I do know once upon time here phones were either restricted to hardlines or you had to have the packs that could send the signals out.

The library is a good place to look at books and they're all free to look at there, but if you want to take any home with you, you'll need the library card to do that.

If you're 15, you'll probably just have to go to school :(

I'm worried about making sure we have enough money. My brother already has sacrificed so much for us, I want to help now that I can.

Our parents are both dead and none of our friends from our world are here. But there seems to be a lot of friendly people here so I don't think we're all alone?

You can probably come live at the place I'm living. It's really big, and they run the school anyway. So they can't really say no.

My name is Emma Frost and I work at the school the others mentioned. When were you last enrolled in school?

Hello Ms. Frost. I'm Alphonse Elric. I don't think I've ever been enrolled in a school like they are talking about? We studied with our Alchemy teacher when we were younger and our mom taught us things as kids. But we never went to a formal place of education unless you count the military that my brother served in? There weren't classes there though.

How old is your brother? And how different is your world from this?

I could help enroll you at EPS, which is the name of our school. It's very likely you'll need some one on one work before we can get you enrolled in the more advanced classes. We'll test your knowledge and see where you need the most catching up and go from there.

My brother is sixteen. My world seems to be in the past compared to this one. But it's different. We didn't have anything wireless, only telephones with cords and mostly that was rich people or the military. We have alchemy though which I don't think this world has?

That's where James said I should go so nobody will make fun of us. How long does school last though? I want to make sure I have time to work, too.

He'll need to enroll, as well. You'll have to explain this alchemy to me sometime.

The school year tends to go from September to July, with your summer months free. The typical day goes somewhere from 7 AM to 3 PM, with extracurriculars like sports or music practice going beyond that. We can work around your schedules depending on how much individualized study you need to take. But you're young enough that you're going to probably have a difficult time finding anything but a part time job. I see that Sabine has invited you to the mansion. Food and lodging are provided there free of charge, perhaps it's time to take a break from working?

Hit the books, go to school, and don't let anyone corner you into a job just because you're on your own.

I have my brother, he's sixteen and has always taken care of me. We take care of each other. Ms. Frost said we could move into Xavier's mansion so we're going to do that. Do you live there too?

I don't think sixteen is old enough to be a guardian by the rules here. I don't personally agree with that rule, but guardians are supposed to pay for the things you need and give you a place to live. Probably Ms. Frost or someone else in the mansion is planning to do that for you.

I don't live there, but I go to the school they run.

Oh! Like how our neighbor let us live with her after our mom died and we came back from studying with our teacher? We're too old to need that. It'd be hard to repay that kind of debt if it's needed. I'm hoping to also get a job after I get caught up with my studies so we can take care of ourselves if we need to. Do you have any suggestions?

You're a student there? We are going to go to that school too! We'll be classmates!

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]burningwings
2017-09-26 04:49 am UTC (link)
[...] Yes, like that. Maybe you can find someone who will just be your guardian on paper, and let you take care of yourselves. I If there's no one at the mansion that can help, I could ask my friends. We know how quickly kids grow up.

School at home wasn't the same, so I've been behind. I'm old enough really to not go to school anymore, but I still have so classes to finish before I qualify to graduate. If you're around the same level as me we might be classmates.

What kind of jobs have you worked before?
