Hi, I'm new here and finally out of quarantine. I wasn't sure what to do with myself now that my brother and I are here. I'm fifteen, but I can do lots of different jobs. I know we will need money.

Also, this world is so wonderous, so different than where I'm from. Is there some way to learn more about all the science and machines here?

Hit the books, go to school, and don't let anyone corner you into a job just because you're on your own.

Thank you for the advice. We learned about the cornering into a job, that happened to my brother. He's been so good at taking care of me, I want to take care of him now.

He going to let you do that?

It's funny you would say that. He has said he won't, that we will both work. I want to be a good brother.

Got brothers of my own, kid. None of use are very good at being taken care of.

Do you have older brothers?

Yep. He's here, actually.

Really? That's so wonderful! I don't know what I'd do without my brother here. We've been together for most of our lives. Were you and your brother like that too?

Me and Dick? Nah. He'd already moved out by the time I got adopted, and then stuff happened, and I was gone a while. But he's not bad as big brothers go. Better than me.

Sounds like you're lucky kid.

You have a younger brother too? Wow so you were lucky to be adopted by a good family?

I am lucky. After our mom died our neighbor took us in and helped us, then Col Mustang told Ed to join the military once he was done with physical therapy and so we did that and had money to take care of ourselves. They let us stay together even though Ed probably wasn't supposed to have me with him. Then we ended up mostly healthy back together. It was more than I thought we'd get after so many years searching.

Two of them. And a sister about the same age. It's ... complicated.

No offense, but what the hell kind of person country drafts an injured kid into the army?

That's a lot of family. You're lucky. I'm glad your brother is here so you're not alone.

I never really thought about it like that. I was so worried about my brother and myself at the time. It was a lot going on. Col Mustang was good to us, even if he picked on my brother some. It was better than us getting caught and being executed or going to prison.

I just don't want to have to fight anymore right now. I've never been to school and I'm very excited to go now.

Could be worse. Could have gotten stuck with the old man.

You shouldn't have to fight at all. Your fifteen. Enjoy being a kid.

That's so strange to hear you say. We were traveling alone as part of the military since I was ten and Ed eleven. I'm glad we can stay in one place and see what school is like. I want Ed to have time to relax and not be stressed out.

I get it. It can be kind of weird when you've been fighting for your life, and someone comes along and tells you it's all taken care of, you can stop worrying.

[...] Can you ever stop worrying? It doesn't feel real that things can be so easy that we don't have to worry about money for food or rent.

You're asking the wrong guy. I didn't get a chance to settle in before life got messy again. I hear other people do better, though.
